      Food safety expert here and this statement is wrong. Food doesn't grow bacteria or viruses randomly - a pathogen must be introduced. Storing in a can doesn't mean foodborne illness will happen. Storing in a can may cause the can to leach into the food and/or cause the food to go bad faster.

So that implies loading up on stuff beyond what you normally would buy. This seems to lead to shortages and stores begin to put limits on amounts. So you have to go out more frequently than is recommended And that’s a problem in regards to limiting contact,flattening the curve etc

    The thing everyone here in New Zealand has bought and made impossible to find in any stores now is hand sanitizer ( not hand wash) - in regards to the coronavirus. But am finding a few products are not being topped up on shelves in stores now as suppliers in coronovirus bigger hit countries can’t send to New Zealand - i think this will cause the most issues if it becomes more serious here. I do think the media has hyped the whole thing up and made people panic more than they should at this stage !

    Hi! Here’s an instant pot recipe:
    You want to wash your beans at least 3 times until the water runs clear.
    I normally make about 2 cups or so for a family of four and have left overs. I then put about 5-6 inches of water above the beans. I put the pressure on high for an hour and a half.
    I always start them in the morning so that it can naturally depressurize and it won’t make a mess.
    Once the beans are done, I add the salt to taste and stir.
    To re-fry them you want to use some vegetable or canola oil in your pan. Use a slotted spoon to put the bead in the hot oil and then smash the beans.
    Reserve the liquid because as they cook down they get thicker so you’ll want to add more liquid.
    They make excellent bean and cheese burritos!

    • @Alexp0701
      @Alexp0701 4 роки тому

      If you are making them for grownups, sauté some jalapeños in the oil ahead of time until they’re blistered. Take them out completely then mash the beans in the oil.
      You’ll need to poke and cut the jalapeños so they release some of their flavor into the oil.

      As long as u use it within a certain amount of time and depends on what it is.... Just cuz it has a date on it doesn't mean u have to use it b4 that date.... But it does only on certain things.... Some things r good as long as u dont open them either...

    • @oldtimerlee8820
      @oldtimerlee8820 4 роки тому

      "Best By" dates are NOT expiration dates! They are dates chosen by the processor for the time they consider their product to be of the BEST quality. (There are regulations for how these dates are used on baby foods. Generally, these rules don't apply to other foodstuff.) Example: White rice, properly stored, has a shelf of 30+ years. Yet, the "Best By" date on bags in the store, is about 2 years from the date processed. Over time, there is some nutrition loss. Can be color and/or flavor changes. These don't affect the safety of the food. Properly processed, canned foods (home canned or commercially processed) are safe to eat, as long as the seal isn't broken. As long as the vacuum seal is intact, nothing can get into the container to cause spoilage.
      Don't take my word for it. Research yourself. Learn how to prolong the shelf life of all the foods you buy. Saves money. Keeps food out of the landfills. And, gives great peace of mind.
      Hope this helps.

    You should hope you're being for about 2 hours to 4 hours with regular cold water then you can put them in your Crock-Pot with a half an onion and salt let them cook. I don't know how long in a Crock-Pot but I know it's about 2 to 4 hours on the stove top. Now for your refried beans you could use those beans that you just cooked you get a skillet or a pan you put oil and then you put your beans but the oil has to be hot. Let them simmer for a little bit once it start boiling reduce your heat and start can smash them with your mashed potato tool. It's real easy.

Noah and Joseph where preppers. A wise person see's calamities on the horizon and prepares whereas fools mock and fall....

    We are from Australia 🇦🇺 and I’m watching all the cases that are now popping up so it’s scary!
    Don’t forget dog food! I went to our grocery store the other day and picked up 30 cans of 1.2kg wet food for dogs and heaps of dry lol they’re set for a fortnight now ☺️😂😂😂😂😂😂

    The best bean recipe is to get salt pork (or bacon) cut it up, season with garlic and salt, and add beef broth or bone broth with water 🙌🏽 makes super creamy beans. I’m from New Mexico and beans are definitely a staple in almost every family dinner❤️

    It is now March 18th here in Canada we are all out of toilet paper, beans, rice, canned goods, hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol, masks, gloves, paper towel, most cleaning products, frozen foods, our shelves are literally bare. A few grocery stores have confirmed that they have not been getting any new stock of food and other items. All the restaurants, bars, clubs, movie theaters etc are closed even churches have shut down. It's my 25th birthday tomorrow and I don't even think I can find a birthday cake for myself. Also our banks are cutting hours and are saying that they may close so the line ups at all the banks are hours long. Most offices and stores have closed, jobs have been lost, schools have shut down. I will be posting a birthday pandemic vlog on my channel!

    My parents bought in bulk their whole married lives. And only things on sale with a coupon. There were no Costco’s back then. Red Owl and Piggly Wiggly and we bought sale items at both each week. Our pantry was just like yours. Minus the bottled water and all the other things that weren’t invented in the 60’s! They bought half a cow and filled our freezer. I admire your preparedness!

    Ok, then I’m not the only one 🤣 I’ve sent £1500 and I’m glad that I did it!! I’m Bangladeshi so I’m all about rice and fish 🙄 usually 20kg rice is £12/£15 and now it became £38/£40, 🌶 chilli was £0.70 now is £19.99 etc so after seen all this price which has been dramatically increased and after seen empty shelves for few days I’ve realised that yes it was a good decision!

    You guys have inspired my hubby and I to get a Costco card. We love it!! Stocking up like up do is not a " prepper" thing. I am from the south to. I am in Alabama. So storms, natural disasters, it's always good to have on hand extra. Plus, people like my family are always just a couple of paychecks away from being in hardship. There may be a time where we can't afford to go to the grocery store. If I have stocked up, we are good. We can eat. And I always ha e enough to share. I used to coupon like crazy. My mom and niece would come grocery shopping at my house, being that my mom is on a fixed income and my niece was in college. I made sure everyone ate.

    I’m sorry but this is honestly why there are restrictions on quantity for foods now. This is unnecessary. I work for Walmart, and it’s sad that people are taking so much without thinking of others. Especially with everything going on now. People are angry that the shelves are empty; this is why.

    Go to a "water" store that sell the big carboys of water, and a pump. Carboy is refillable and great if the well goes dry as happened to many people in 1964, 2019 earthquakes. (I'm sure other areas too, but this is our family history in Anchorage). It's always easy to get non-potable water to flush, or boil to wash in. We do have an outstanding infra-structure that rare let's more than a few hours go by before re-introducing services.

    Even before all this chaos I always bulked shopped for our family of 4. We don’t have a ton of storage space so I do try to only buy things I know we’re going to use. Like you toothpaste, tp, paper towels, femine products, soap, lotion, deodarent, etc Plus pantry staples flour, sugar, rice, water, and different canned items. This way if and when things happen, like now you don’t have to rush out right away. You can make things stretch and you will be apart of flattening the curve. The longer we can all go without shopping & exposing one another the better.
