I'm speechless. I really forgot that I have these sounds and music printed deep down in my soul. Just a glimpse of this game and memories came. I can smell, see and hear my childhood. Thank you.
When I look at the level of sophistication in this game - all the subtle gameplay mechanics - and imagine what the development process was like I'm blown away.
...oh,my God. It's a video game, based on a movie...that actually seems to follow the series of events in the movie, incredibly close! Is that even legal?
Classic! Took me right back to completing this when I was 9 on my 800XL. I was almost asleep when for some odd reason Gauntlet popped into my head, I had completely forgotten about Goonies lol. Now to trawl YT for the 50 or so other tapes and floppy disks I had :) .. hmm I wonder if Conan is on here ...
I met this game before the movie. At that time I was thinking the movie is going to be a lot more darker, because the game feels dark, like something between horror and mystery genre
I lived this game back then, one of the earliest puzzle solving titles of the day. Regarding the colour palette chosen, I assume this game released on the Apple II first. This was a common occurrence.
My version used to have slightly different music...really weird. I used to play this game to death. I remember I used to get really cocky and use the fat kid to be the one who prints the papers and has to make the run at the end....good memories :)
Owen 800XL I’m glad you said that, because mine did too - I seem to remember the cassette box being bigger. Thanks for confirming my memory is intact, and I haven’t lost the plot 😆 ... for a moment I was wondering why I’ve spent the last three decades with different music in my head 😂😂

This makes me feel such nostalgia like no other Atari XL game does.
This was my favorite game on my 800XL, it was the tape version, took me a lot longer than under 10 minutes that's for sure. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, remeber spending days and even weeks on the game.
One of the few 80's games that i do finish actually.
Still remember this damn tape-loading every level. My angry youth :)
really excellent game for the atari, and one of the best movie based games.
They did a fine job on this little game. It was like an adventure / platformer.
used to stay up nights playing this damn game on my XE...those were the days

I had this on floppy disk, one of the greatest movie games that was accurate to the movie.
This version looks cool too, not bad. :^)
I like it.
Thank you very much for the playthrough.
Such a great game for its time:)
Had this on floppy disk on the atari 130xe 👍
Used to play the heck out of this game on the C64
@NotQuarex Somehow all those random sounds just burn themselves into our memories :D
Liked the music on the C64 better. Interesting note was that the songs were switched for the levels on C64 than what I am hearing here on the Atari.

The NES game was actually "Goonies II", a sequel to the movie story.
Cindy Lauper theme!!
UA-camに日本版gooniesの紹介された動画があり、その中でdatasoftのgooniesからの移植だと知りました。画面はシンプルだけど、この当時自分がやってたら、ワクワクしてただろうなと思えるゲームですね😊
The NES version is absolutely terrible...this was such a cleverly created, unique game...brings back many fond memories.

ahh the good old days! awesome game
Loved this game!
many slepless nights... THX
Goonies are in my 800XE top-ten.
The engine of this game looks very similar to Zorro published by the same company.
On the title screen.... who is the one running to the group with the Cape? Data or mikey? Or someone else??
is that Troy or someone at the golf club running around at the top of the 3rd screen trying to take a shower? lol
game emotions? 1987 + atari 800xl + casette tapes yea! :)
日本のファミコン(NES)版やMSX版より映画に忠実な作りに好感触。
Waaay better than the nes version
thanks, i loved this game. better then the movie;)
Had it for the c-64. Damn last level was buggy and couldn't finish it! Love the game, though.
yarrrr, matey. :)
It's a shame I can't tell which Goonies are which in the levels.
