Thanks so much. I was trying to figure if the clip went behind the little ears on the water pump case and the thermostat case and your video is the first one that actually showed how the clip went in. The other videos just said "put the clip in" and their hands were in the was so I couldn't tell that the clip goes behind those little ears. Saved me a lot of time. Much appreciated.
Straightforward and well illustrated. Thank you! Good diagnosis. My Temp gauge was doing similarly. So I figured it was a sensor. You showed me where to look and how simple it is to do. I have ordered new sensor from FCP Euro. One thing, I would start cleaning and flushing/wiping crud from around the sensor before removal.
My w211 2004 cdi all of the sudden has a increase om temperature and then IT sink and raise again. This doesn't always happen though but the temperature gauge keep telling me it's hotter than it is. Do you think it's the temperature sensor or thermostat?
@@Old750 cheers for reply. The fan defo works but cos I've inspected it while engine running.it maybe doesn't go to a higher speed if it needs to.should the fan run when ignition is on and car hot but not running.it goes into the garage tomorrow but just looking for ideas to help.the heaters work fine so can't be a thermostat prob.
@@aj13elly From memory these do have a variable speed fan and its speed should increase with engine temperature. It could still be a faulty fan not increasing with temp but it could also be a faulty control module or temperature sensor or even the signal wiring or connectors for the fan circuit.
@@Old750 yeah could be costly.its a nice motor.spent a grand lately on maintaining it.its got me over a barrel cos it will get what it needs.cheers fella.
@@Old750 Turned out to be the thermostat, the temp was chaning but only between 40 and 50, once peaked at 60. Changed it and now I'm driving at operating temps :D
im doing that now, replaced the thermos but broke the sensor. now well see, but heat not coming on and bad gas Mil. both ar easy to fix on my mercedes.

Thanks. A very nice video. I am changing my coolant temp sensor tomorrow. Cheers.

Did u ever get a anwser to ur problem?..im having the same issue..
Does the clip go over the gold part or the black and plastic
So why didn't you try to start it unplugged?
Hello, did you have any esp/abs malfunction on computer during this issue?
Hi, No there was no engine lights or fault codes stored at all
My 53 plate e320 is running hot on idle but fine driving.if temp goes up to 100° it won't start.i have to wait for it to cool down.any ideas ??
Hot on idle I would check the fan is working correctly before I look for anything else

My e220 04 temp guage shows 40 degrees at all times, do you think it is the coolant sensor or the thermostat?
I would say it is the coolant sensor
