I had started many blender TF2 projects some time ago, and eventually gave up because it was just too much work to manually port assets, and lose functionality in the process. You've taken away all the frustration. I can't thank you enough. Keep kicking ass.
Blender has come a long, long way in being much more user friendly... And with more people using it, we get bangers like this! This is why open source programs can be so freakin' awesome. I get how folks can see Blender as intimidating, but for real, this looks _incredible._
Shoutouts to you and the rest of the TF2 Blender Community (especially the Discord!). I have fully taken the BlenderPill and seeing stuff like this puts a bug dumb smile on my face! 😊
Yeah. I've been using SFM for the past few years, and honestly I think it's a great introduction into animation software, but as you said in the video, very limiting. (also decided to switch to blender a month ago, super excited to learn how to make animations!)
Thank you for everything you done, it honestly makes animating so easy, less time consuming and fun. Being able to make tf2 animations without using a haunted software like sfm and not need to know how to be a master coder to successfully port things yourself. Carrying tf2 animation community on your back my guy. 💪💪💪
Amazing work! As a GMod animator, the only thing that keeps me from fully utilizing blender is the ability to easily spawn props and place them in the world. GMod is a different beast compared to SFM and Blender; it is closer to Stop Motion, but just on the computer, what with the physics engine and all. Either way, I look forward to giving it a try!
bro i read your goodbye notice and i totally get what you're feeling but i gotta note that what you have done for the community is absolutely insane. like it doesn't matter if you drop doing anything more, your impact is unprecedented
i cant explain how thankful am i to you for making this. I always tried to get into SFM but i just cant, either get some random issues that nobodys ever heard of or it just crashes. thank you so much!
I've been learning a tiny little bit of animation in blender trying to make viewmodel animations for tf2 mods (my first time ever animating), and am looking at maybe doing more intricate things once I'm done. This is incredible. Holy crap. I feel like I could actually do things with this now.

Would these tools throw me off? Should I get a feel for Blender before I start experimenting with these tools? Would love to hear from you!
absolutely, you should get a feel for blender. i have interacted with so many people who jump straight into blender, a program of infinite possibilities, just for the purpose of doing TF2 in blender. they don't even have a care for how it works, but have the gall to complain about not understanding something that they would've learned provided they watched some tutorials. i recommend watching andrew price's donut tutorials to get a feel for how blender works, how to navigate the UI, and etc.
I think I better jump to blender, SFM is nothing anymore because of the year it came out and it was never updated, I think valve has no future for the program
Wow dude, this shit is insane! Big thanks to you for this addon and stuff. I cant understand why is your video is so unpopular, couse its so usefull. Blender is much better for me than sfm and it was such a pain in ass to importing a models from tf and geting them dressed. I would like to do a video on russian about this addon.
UPDATE: i got it to work after my issues and im loving it! this addon is amazing!!! but uhh, .. do you think next update can add the MvM robots pls? ;3
Any chance there will be an update to MercDeployer that'll allow for the spawning in of other SFM models so long as they follow the ValveBiped hierarchy and vmt materials? An update like that would be a massive step in removing the barrier between SFM and Blender for more than just TF2 creators, but all SFM users.
unfortunately, there's no chance. Merc Deployer is just a glorified way of appending/linking models. it loads a pre-made model from a source file while re-using textures and node groups. along with that, it does a few touch-ups to ensure the model works in its new environment. the addon does not decompile or re-rig a model in anyway
@@hisanimations Right, but if a model is ported to SFM, it should be a source model that can be appended/linked, right? The biggest hang up I'd see would be the materials, I suppose, since yeah the vmts from material to material are different?
The Merc deployer won't work for me because Blender requires me to make a file path to the rig folder, but the program won't detect any of the blend files even though they're all in the same place. Could you please help me with this?
