I don’t know why opera critics hate her so much. She sings so much more naturally than the current opera singers do. I’d take her over Netrebko ANY day of the year.
Well, the thing is that opera singing is not natural, there is an amazing lot if technique behind the whole. In her case, I can see many many points she definitely needs to improve, like for example, the wideness of her "i" and "a", they sound too flat, they should be rounder. And she's not using the resonance cavities in the nasal and frontal sinuses, what the italians call singing in "maschera" which is absolutely necessary to achieve the necessary amount of volume to be heard without a microphone. Instead her voice is completely in her throat and sounds to opaque. She will never ever reach high notes if she keeps singing so deep in the larynx. They even had to transpose the piece and not even like this she could hit the high note at the end. And I must also say that her Italian is incredibly horrible which is like a super must nowadays. In the past many singers got away with bad pronunciation but noadays it is unforgivable. But hey, she's good looking... Many think that's enough.
Normally I can't stand Katherine Jenkins, but credit where it's due. I'm actually impressed with this performance. Don't like that she didn't go for the high note at the end though.
I really don´t give a flyinf F about what note should or should not have been hit or where... It sounds fantastic and thats all that matters... Or atleast it should be..
Well I really do like it! A pretty girl like Katherine, brilliant and mezzo soprano - Violette is a demi-mondaine and a mezzo voice is better for the role, than a soprano. Now, please, this is not an "official" presentation of the opera- No need for her a perfect italian- Rolando is a Spanish speaker (Mexican), so for him Italian is easy.
Not sure what so say to this. I'd hate to say something bad about Villazon, because he's almost always great in whatever he does, but here he just seems off. Nothing really wrong with his singing, but he seems so stiff and withdrawn and that's unusual for him. He normally gets into the roll/song much better than this. It just seems a bit sterile. As for Jenkins, she really should't try to sing opera. She should stick to regular classic music. I think she could shine in that with some more work.
All I can say is, it's cruelty to put Jenkins right next to a real opera singer like Rolando Villazon, because then her lack of proper technique and pronunciation is all the more obvious.
Mi sa che si sono ubriacati... La Jenkins, che per inciso non è nemmeno una cantante d'opera, non si può sentire... Ma Villazon...Cristo...Rischio di perdere l'udito!
A wonderful piece of music,
Ooooooh Rolando! *swoons* my hero! CHACA CHACA!!!!!!
Go Rolando the tenor of the 21st century
Listening to this song I get goosebumps all over my skin! Bloody brilliant!!!
this is my favorite piece From Verdi's Opera La Travita
Addio del passato is my favourite - much more sombre and emotionally

That's because she can't hit the high note even though this version was already deeper than the original. And besides her Italian is very very poor.
Bravo Rolando !!

Wrong key though, you can't deny that!
Rolando, mi amigo, ¿En qué estabas pensando?!?
What a beautiful song... An opera! And this blond chick... Are you married?
Fantastico Magnifico love you so much
Por mucho, los mejores.
she absolutely massacred that last note. what was she thinking?!
1:58 love katherine jenkins ❤
It was kinda weird hearing it in this octave but still seems to amaze me :)
Bring back pop star to opera star
What the hell was Villazon thinking? Did he need the money that badly?
That's exactly what I thought!!! Why on earth to go that low!?!?
Katherine didn't go for the normally higher note at the end of the song (when it's sang in Bel Canto) But still a great performance... :-)
At least it's a nice harmony between her and Rolando
Esta un tono abajo😮
3:02 ❤❤
Does anyone know the vocal range for the male and female parts in this duet?
Awesome !!! Looks all like plastic, but great singing. Rolando !!!

with katherine jenkins as violette i'll pay one thousand dollars for the ticket to La Traviata :3
If anyone here is tired of this, listen to Cotrubas and Domingo at the Met - ua-cam.com/video/iIYTMuYoBTs/v-deo.html
Probably been drinking LOL
Wrong key.
And I who thought Mr Bean only sang O Mio Babbino Caro.

I expected the glasses to break at the end
Oh my... the chorus can't sing... Jenkins can't hit the final high note... Villazon, my friend, what were you doing there?...
I'm not keen on Katherines voice she sounds like she's got a cold
I wanna is she a soprano or mezzosoprano???
She's a mezzo soprano, learn it from my sister
oh. my. God....i can't stand it
This performance was a load of bollocks, old chap!
I'm with you.

She can’t sing the top note at the end? Villazon will never be taken seriously as an opera singer after this programme
She's a mezzo
@@summermcpherson8209your regular mezzo hits a b without any problems. Sge's jyst nit an opera singer, that's all. Zero technique!
Probably the worst ever. The singing was terrible.

Detectivefiction I didn't like either performance.
You Opera snobs all suck
@@pmotoman1997 at least we know what good music sounds like!
Worst choir in opera history
