Also worth noting that you can propagate these from the thick stems. I had a piece of stem break off last year due to high winds, so I chopped it into seed tray lengths, laid it down horizontally and half covered it with soil, kept it damp and after about a month I had quite a few shoots.
I've actually not heard of this! Must think I'm daft!! This will be going on my list now for next year. Thanking you for showing this. 👍
Beautiful foliage! Mine has little flower buds too, and I’m really hoping they open soon, because although my garden doesn’t really ever see much frost the leaves are getting totally shredded by the strong coastal winds in my area.
Love that one. I grew it many moons ago at my last location
Chris the Dahlia is my favourite flower really enjoyed this video. Damien gardening channel from Ireland
I love growing regular Dahlias for the bright flowers but also this huge beast.
@@YorkshireKRIS That fella was a monster I have Bishops Children still flowering in my pots👌
Just brought 2 one white one pink their 3ft as purchased but a lot of leaves are yellow and some black spots and holes ? Don’t know if they are diseased! Good information 😊
Hello, I have this dahlia surely for 5 years, l am leaving it in the ground, with protection in winter, comes back every year but never flowered. Not event last year when it was so hot. I gave some feeding for flowering, but still no flowers, so my last try for next year more watering??? I am still hopeful to see the flowers one day!
Are these tree dahlia take many years before they start to flower?
I am an impatient gardener. Please give me some sort of a time line please.
Tree Dahlias are grown for their foliage and overall huge size. The flowers are a bonus after long hot summers. Not every year
My new tree dahlia is about three feet tall and the trunk has broken - not straight through. Has anyone tried using grafting tape (or similar) to fix tree dahlia breaks? Thanks
Sorry to hear that. I've not tried that but its worth a go. It's not too late for other stems to form though
@@YorkshireKRIS I grew it in a pot for a year - just to keep it going while I had a good place to get it in the ground. The shoot was strong but there was not much of a rootball - surprisingly little. It doesn't seem very robust, which suggest to me that it might not throw up shoots. --- I guess the tuber should not be buried deeply -? I planted the tubers just under the soil. Do you think that re-burying it deeper might help the tuber to throw up more shoots? this is the first time I am trying to grow a tree dahlia (London). Your thoughts are very appreciated. Thanks
How fast does it grow to this size
@@gryspnikngrysp2821 about 5 months. From appearing in spring to autumn
Please stop making these video Kris. My list of plants I want to grow, just keeps getting longer and longer.
Sorry I can't help it!😄
