- Mary Weiss, the lead singer of the 1960s pop group the Shangri-Las, has died on January 19 at the age of 75. Her death was confirmed by her husband, who offered no details. The group was made up of two sets of sisters, Mary and Betty Weiss, and twins Marge and Mary Ann Ganser, who formed in the Queens borough of New York City. Mary Weiss served as the lead singer, channeling themes of teenage love and tragedy in notable hits like "Remember (Walking in the Sand)" and "Leader of the Pack." The latter, crafted by George "Shadow" Morton, Jeff Barry, and Ellie Greenwich, achieved remarkable success, reaching Number 1 on the pop charts in 1964.

In two of their songs, "Leader of the Pack" and "Give Us Your Blessing", the girl in the song is in love with a guy named Jimmy.
When those songs were on the radio, I was ten years old, and already looking at girls differently than I had the yer before.....and my name is Jimmy!
In "Give Us Your Blessing", the girl's name is Mary, so you can imagine where my mind is taking me in a song where Mary and Jimmy want to run away and get married.
The news of the passing of Mary Weiss left me heartbroken 💔. Her voice, so sincere and passionate when singing and so soft and tender when she spoke, captured my heart and soul; her beauty, as well, never faded.
I hope her sister, Liz, gets to read these comments. I would love to see her help put together a biography of Mary Weiss and The Shangri-las. I love them...wish I could've kissed and hugged them💘.

No disrespect but one of them looks like a man it's a shame you didn't play a song I'm no good with names but love old music ❤ I will after look up her name and listen to her music I beat it's the one I've just been singing .she looks so lovely 😢❤
They all look so lovely and nice to see they have natural eye brows too . I love harmony and their voices blend very well , like the Pointer Sisters , Andrew sisters , ect.
