Unhoused Ontario family paying for campground site in Peterborough ordered to leave

- A family living at a campground in Peterborough, Ont., says they’re being ordered to leave - despite paying for their campsite since arriving.
Shanna Miller, her husband and three children have been staying at Beavermead Campground since May 10. Miller claims severe medical conditions have kept her and her husband from regular work. In February she says “unsafe conditions” at a rental home forced the family to leave.
Unable to find affordable housing or shelter spaces in the city for her family, Miller says they pitched their tents in the campground and have paid for their extended stay.
“It’s not something I thought I would ever have to deal with,” she said. “It’s been a year since I’ve been looking for another place to live. I haven’t found it.”
Global's Robert Lothian reports.

Between three adults, they can't pay rent on an apartment? They could rent a decent house for $2500 and split it 3 ways.
Yes I have empathy for some, but when I see neither works and all of that extra baggage, they need to be sensible.
They may have been ok before then something happened to them. They probably don't want to get rid of their dogs which have become like family. If you have a dog you know the feeling of them being like a part of the family you can't just dump off to a shelter you got it from

Never thought id see homeless families in Canada
City parks in Vancouver, Edmonton, and Toronto, turning into campgrounds, are examples of rampant lost emergency shelter space and no new rental units being buillt in the last 10 years. Canada needs every year over a million new affordable rental units and government subsidized social housing units for those on welfare all because of Prime Minister Justin Trudeaus' Federal Immigration Policy currently in place. 500,000 new immigrants are expected in 2025 and every year forward, which will flood into Vancouver, Edmonton, and Toronto and nowhere else.

Why would a campground care how long you stay as long as you pay? Someone paying long term is pretty much guaranteed income why kick them out if they are paying only to have the site sit empty on the potential that someone might rent it. These people if they are paying are guaranteed rental income.

@@kylegallant3423 that's a lot of slack.
What if a couple planned to have children when they were financially stable, but unexpected life events disrupted their plans? Why should they be judged for circumstances beyond their control?
@@JigglyPlatypus and 3 purebred dogs? I don't think they were ever rich, but certainly thought they were. That's the problem.
This is a garbage situation. Thanks to our government. She wont get a rental anywhere because she is "too many" kids. Rental appts and even mom and pop investors don't like too many people living in their precious investments.
I have a entire house across the street from me full of young people with medical conditions. Lots of dogs, pizza and Uber’s coming and going at least six times a day. Not one of them is employed, too many “Health Problems.”
How can they afford a campsite? They run around $40/night. I’d love to stay at a Prov. Park but they are too expensive for me. I’m 76 and living on CPP and OAS. I try and find free camping or Crown Land. This is a sad situation for a lot of people. GELP
I have no sympathy for peopel who can affford many kids and pets but need a handout to live.
Why won't they work ?
Did ya not watch the video?
It has taken their will to work !!!!
@@kimritchie5008 That's a good point. Demoralization sets in.
Says they're incapable. So much baggage, 3 dogs etc. I'm not buying it.
@@kimritchie5008😂 are you out to lunch? Desperation w 2 kids and 3 dogs? That's the motivation.
They should be I'm housing. Don't understand why they are not. I do however understand why the campground is doing this, it is not residential. And there is limited spaces these days
Most people here have are not even commenting on the actual issue. All of Canada is in a serious affordable housing crisis. There are way to many hard working Canadians that can barely afford to live.
@Brinn-yw4dy
Due to people living beyond their means and being all-around lousy with money.
@Brinn-yw4dy
There is no crisis with bad credit.
@Brinn-yw4dy
Much of which is of their own making.
And a third, Entitlement for those who don't want to work.
Hsf housing in yoronto refusing to help yonge senior secure a room rental second time around causing homelessness and causing debt lying why they released monies .some one has to answer for these people grabbing a pay check and abusing odsp clients.
Frigging Ford better do something this is getting worse instead of better.
Won't get better till Ford and Justin are gone
What can he do when Trudeau-LIBs/NDP are flooding the province without the housing, infrastructure, healthcare, education, etc to sustain it all??
