Tiberias (Tveria)

Israel video tour with David Hyman, professional Israeli tour guide. One of Israel's "4 Holy Cities" that kept a constant presence of Jewish life through the centuries. Tiberias was the center of Jewish life for 600 years nd the seat of the Sanhedrin - the Jewish political and religious leadership, Tiberias was the home town of great Rabbis and the final resting place of Rambam ( Maimonides). Tiberias was founded during the 1st century by King Herod Antipas as a Roman town on the Eastern shores of the Sea of Galilee. This tour will take us to some of the city's highlights such as: Hamat Tveria hot springs, the ancient synagogue with the mosaic floor of the zodiac signes, we will visit the tomb of Maimondes and the Tana'im. We will walk the streets and check the local street food with a tasty Shawarma at Yehuda's corner. We will visit the Tiberias promanade and see some of the old walls and the Mosque built in the 18th century by Daher al-Omer , the govener of Galilee under Othoman rule.

I just started watching this video. I'm amazed by your stats on the sea level of Lake Galilee. 688 feet below sea level. Wow!
Just finished the video. I was expecting the lake to be surrounded by High mountains.
I'm getting confused. You have also said the Jordan feeds into the lake. If the lake is 688 feet below sea level, what is the elevation of the River Jordan? Is there a massive waterfall from the Jordan that feeds the lake?
How deep is the lake?
In the USA, Death Valley is 132 feet below sea level and is our lowest surface.
I've only heard of people named Tiberias. This city is new to me. 1 of 4 holy cities. Either I've missed it in my bible study or something. You did say it was founded by the Romans, but was named after Herod's son. I'm confused about that, too.
It's a lovely place. Great people and history. Thanks for showing it all. You are the best tour guide of Israel, in my opinion.

Hi Linda, I might consider recording a separate video of the entire Jordan River as I can see that there is much confusion. Regarding Tiberias: the city was founded by Herod Antipas in the 20's of the first century. He named it Tiberias honoring the Emperor of Rome during that time. The concept of "4 holy cities" is not biblical , it refers to the 4 towns that have seen continuous Jewish life throughout tge 2000 years of exiles. Thanks for watching and for your insights.

The candles represent the souls of the deceased, check Proverbs 20:27 ("The candle of God is the soul of man") we light candles to enhance the return of the souls back to the Creator. I indeed enjoyed my Shawarma , the meat they serve is usualy turkey.

Yes, it is possible but right now there is a bacteria that might damage ones eyes, so it's better to swim with goggles.
