I've had a rough time with my mental and physical health. Along with anxiety attacks I have OCD and struggle to get out of the house. Thanks to you and your channel I have started to get kit together and plan on getting out when the weather get a bit better. The cold and wet don't agree with my Arthritis etc. Thanks for your videos; I am learning so much and can't wait to try things out.
Sorry to hear about your health issues.. but i'm really pleased that i've helped inspire you.. just remember to do what you enjoy! if you're enjoying the stay, sleep the night.. if you don't face it walk back home in the evening.. its about making the most of the time out there :) good luck!
The outdoors is a great place to practice mindfulness and what the Japanese call “forest bathing”. Practicing mindfulness under a huge tree several times older than you is a great way to help with mental health. You’ve got this Mal!
Mal Standing - hang in there brother. Layering clothing will help keep you warm & beat that cold that aggravates the arthritis. A warm sleeping bag & insulated mat of some description will help you beat the cold, come bedtime. 👍

Great video, I got really excited when you mentioned fat wood, after asking about it on your live session. Could you do a video on collecting and processing??
I have had the LL bean Pack for almost four years. It has gone hunting with me in and out to the deer stand, it has gone to college with me, and it carries my everyday kit. I use it every day and love the hell out of it and i am not easy on it. Great peace of gear and quality gear.
It's such a relief to find someone who doesn't use "tactical" in every sentence, i am new to your channel and i am so glad i watched the video its just a normal bloke who loves the outdoors and not some bear grylls wannabe
Completely agree. I don't know when it was deemed necessary that to enjoy the wilderness, somebody had to play GI Joe, and behave as though the Chinese were about to parachute right down into their camp. I can tell you which side of the pond that attitude prevails.
Must say I love what you get to. I grew up in the arctic and getting out on the land is what I miss. Thinking of starting my own solo female (with dog) to do these type of videos here in alberta. Funny how I watched this video on this day. I almost went to l l bean today but my stepson had to work or we would have gone. I live in Maine, and the store is only around an hour away. I love that store. All the best brother!
L.L. Bean has started making the Continental Rucksack much smaller. I purchased one and the side pouches will no longer hold anything close to a Nalgene anymore. Their customer service tried to deny any differences in the pack. I returned mine out of anger and frustration with the fact that the pack is no longer a good option for actual outdoorspeople. There is however a laptop sleeve and electronics pocket, you know, for the outdoors. Buy one with caution. It is in NO WAY like the packs people on UA-cam love. Oh, the price for the smaller pack is still $89.
I recently purchased a used canvas version of the Continental Rucksack. I'm unsure of the year of manufacture, but I have noticed that mine also has smaller side pockets than the model featured in this video. (It will fit a standard 32oz nalgene bottle, but will not cinch closed.) However, it will easily fit the 24oz Hiker Bottle by Wildo with room to spare, so my one option is to carry one in each side pocket for 48oz of capacity. Alternatively, it will fit solo cook sets such as the Stanley Adventure quite easily. I am in the process of testing other canteens and bottles to find the best option for me, but I also plan to suspend a hydration reservoir from the inside grommets around the draw cord. There is no inner sleeve, but the Osprey Hydroform reservoir has a stiff backing to provide shape and should work well when properly suspended in the bag. I agree that the pockets should at least be able to accommodate more common water bottles. Mine should serve me well as an extended daypack if properly outfitted, and for the $20 it cost me I can't complain.
Great video. Lots of good gear without it being preachy. Those trousers are pretty rugged-looking, while the colour scheme of them is a good match for woodland colours. The LL Bean rucksack is damned fine, it's layout looks like someone looked at the old SAS Bergen and said 'Let's bring it into this century' - I reckon you did right without getting the leather-strap version.... the writing's on the wall with wet climates & over tensioning leather. You'd spend a fair bit of time weatherproofing and cleaning your rucksack if you had the other one👍. Thanks for sharing, always good to see what gear makes it onto the 'frequent flyer' list of those we deem to be role models. 🤠👏👏👏

Great video Andy, really informative too. You may have already done this but I’d like to see the tarp configurations you use most frequently if you don’t build a wooden shelter and why you’d choose one config over another. Thank you very much for taking the time to create videos that share so much knowledge. All the best.

Nice video mate, always to see your latest bits you carry on you. Idea for another video, could you do a ‘How you prepare for a wild camp’? From the preparation at home, to the packing and where you decide on camping...etc
Good video. I am glad you covered the gear. I’ve only subscribed the past month and already wanting to know your gear. I liked the bag pack, especially with the lower price tag. Stoves were good but the cool folding camp chair was a nice surprise. Worth taking up the hills camping I think 🙂
The best way iv'e found to stop them folding chairs sinking in the mud, is put a log longways between the legs. Bit of a faff getting one the right diameter and the right lenth, but it works.
Good video! You're right about Solognac from Decathlon, very good quality for the price, been using their clothes for close to 5 years now, no complains. Bought a pair of boots from them a year ago, wear them most of the time, still in very good condition. The backpacks are the only thing that didnt convinced me. Cant say the same about the small belt tipe MOLLE pouches, got two in my EDC over three years now, and they are excelent!
As a tip / suggestion have seen tennis balls used on the end of legs ... nothern bushcraft for example has his chair set up like that...save pending more on something you can adapt as long as the tennis (or smaller hollow) balls are packable...
Andy you are the wild camping king! Could you please demonstrate some more nature based Bushcraft skills like making cordage from stinging nettles etc so people could use materials around them rather than buying expensive equipment.
Recently got a pair of the Solagnac insulated waterproof hunting trousers for £19.99, can't knock em at all, the quality looks like they should be round about £80 mark, superb kit at decathlon.
Good videos I am kind of addicted to them now Thank you Few questions 1. Which woodlands paradise you live in where you can cut so many trees without any permissions or approvals? 2. Why do you use so much wood? Every camp has wooden walls and structure plus firewood that you collect? 3. Do you plant new trees in woodland where you use it from?
Hi, Thanks for watching.. 1. I have only ever cut down 2 dead trees in my videos, the rest of the wood is copiced from woodland management. 2. I like to build and use the resources available :) 3. New trees are planted in the main woodland I have used but not by me.. by the woodland workers, they are slowly getting rip of non native species such as sycamore.
The camp chairs are awesome! I bought 2 Chinese ones for beating around an a Helinox chair zero for my lite weight hiking gear as it’s almost a lbs lighter than the Chinese ones. I’ve been looking for a stuff pillow! Seen your vid and just purchased it on Amazon. Thx
Awesome gears brother. Nice rundown of your kits. Yeah, I've gained an admiration over your use of your Bushlore for the past years. Not gonna lie, I was wondering how long you were going to stick with it until you went with another, but you didn't, gaining my confidence over the knife. That bad boy got you through everything for the past few years. Now your LL Bean Ruck has a few more functions in comparison to the Waxed Canvas like I have. It's really more of being canvas and the look of aesthetics, is about it. The bottom can't hold anything unlike yours. Appreciate your honest opinions about your kits and outdoor wear. Great video Andy. Btw, you lucky SOB having both fatwood and birch in one area. C'mon, honestly. lol
Hey buddy, Thanks.. haha.. I like that woodland, a great mix for harvesting but its too close to people to camp :( I was actually thinking about the condor yesterday at camp.. I was smacking it around when it was a bit stuck in a knotty bit of wood I was battening and realised.. yeah, its actually quite a trooper and ive been looking at something more expensive lately but id be too scared to use it in the same way so for now.. I think ill be sticking with it :D ATB!!!
I have similar gloves and they had gotten really stiff, and even squeaked when I would bend my fingers. I put neatsfoot oil on them and now they are soft, pliable, and no longer squek
Hello, been really enjoying your video’s whilst stuck at home in the middle of lockdown.Great to see and get information on your knife, your saw and some of the tools etc. I’d be interested to learn more about your tinder bag , it’s contents and where you can get the stuff from.Thank you for the videos.
Another great video and I do love when people who use the gear do a review. Over here in Aust. it is pretty hard to find a lot of the stuff that seems to be so prevalent over there or in the US. The big camping stores tend to have much of the same sort of lower end gear so finding a specific backpack or whatever tends to take some time. I also love the amount of handcrafted gear that you seem to have over there. It would be around here I suppose but we certainly don't seem to have the same "bushcraft" type of movement that seems popular where you are. All the best and thanks again for your efforts mate.
Thanks matey, this is why I like to talk about kit, because most channels just review it and never use it, ill put things through their paces but a lot of people just think you're after money or freebies when your just trying to be honest and helpful. Shame you have trouble getting some stuff over there.. seems you may have found a niche for a business ;) - this time next year you could be a millionaire :p
@@KentSurvival Lol. I will be probably stopping working at the end of the year and the idea of taking on more stress doesn't really appeal tbh. Most people don't want to pay for quality gear and we are more into camping/4wding than bushcrafting over here from what I have seen. I have actually tried to buy a hand made item off one of the other channels on here to show some support and didn't even get a reply when I emailed them about how to purchase something. Oh well.
@@oldbloke204, I understand your pain. I live rural NSW and camping is mainly focused on car camping stuff. I find army disposal shops the best for bush craft stuff.
@@TheOMGCarrie Wow this ones a blast from the past. I'm basically doing car camping out of my 4wd these days and using mainly commercial gear but I try and buy the good stuff. There is some good gear around but you really have to look for it as Google likes to promote those who pay the most. I got a top quality 35l US made backpack as a basis for my bugout bag but found it way down the list for about $150 cheaper than others wanted for it. It was a Qld website, from memory, and he had lots of nice knives as well. Cheers.
@@oldbloke204 I have just discovered the use of nature reserves. So planning on doing a few back country camping as they like to call it. No people around !
I like that big folding saw, I'm going to get one of those. I'm above average in height, I haven't seen a lightweight chair that is comfortable for tall people. There is no way I'd own a tent that didn't have an integrated bottom on it. Gaps at ground level let wind blow through which steals body heat. A gap also lets water in. But mostly, I live where there are lots of venomous snakes and insects.
I was asking the other month about the LL bean how you would go about packing it for more like a two day trip rather than a day pack. When I started learning about the law of attraction, and learning the ability to manifest things. At one point I asked the universe for a bag, I didn't use visualisations, or any special technique, because that doesn't always work, but anyway... You might not like this too much, What I said to the universe was "wouldn't it be nice if I had a backpack that suits me I didn't have to make myself" So, five or six days later I found the waxed/sheepskin strap and leather version turn up in my charity shop, I paid £3.75 for it in brand new condition. Yes, I paid 1.7% of retail price...I also got a new pc showing up that week too but that is besides the point. I love it and have used it every day since but there are advantages to your version, the pockets/cover flap in mine do not hold their shape anywhere near as well as yours, doesn't have the bladder hole but I don't need that anyway. And the straps have become much flimsier and dig in more now than they did when new. It's about two year old on me now. I still wouldn't go anywhere without it though. You will never have to worry about the price of things ever again if you learn the law of attraction and trust it. Though it takes about two years practice before most people get the hang of it. It's not hard, but it's a new way of thinking that takes time to rewrite money based belief systems. Last week I manifested a new hultsfors painters knife, bit weird looking at first, it has a screwdriver tip for opening paint cans, but an hour on the belt grinder and stones and put a normal point on it and sharpened it up from it's very blunt state. It ends up pretty decent if not a slightly soft edge for my liking. I am more used to zdp189 (64rc) and s30v (62rc) blades these days so carbon steel (58-60rc) is a big downgrade, although it carves beautifully. It's easy to forget how well the scandi carves when you don't have a mora lying around.
Ooh really like the solonac stuff, and good sizes for us generously sized fellas 😂 If i didnt love my bushlore for every other reason than its softness, id be tempted to do a tested until destruction video on it haha, nice vid mate, atb kev
@@KentSurvival always welcome up here at my woods buddy, could do a fairly big session to make your trip worth while, or catch you on my travels, there are a few smaller meets planned around the Uk with just a few of us too, as i know large crowds aint your thing!
Please allow me to recommend the Bahco Laplander Folding Saw. 7-1/2 -Inch Blade, 7 teeth per inch. I believe Andy use's this saw. I've used it for a year or so, having seen "Simon, a Bloke in the woods" talk about it. There are other saw's obviously, but it could give you a place to start looking. After heavy use, the teeth are still sharp, handle's nicely, and I'm particularly pleased with the blade's strength. Around $21.00, US, on Amazon. I don't know what that is in British pounds, but it is affordable. Be safe. Roger
Great video, cheers Andy. Could you do a more detailed video of the different trousers you’ve got. I’ve got a pair of their cheapest ones but I’m looking to upgrade. Cheers
I have purchased 3 items of the video you posted so thanks for that. Having said that, the Bushcraft Essentials stove does not warrant spending £68.00 in my opinion, over priced massively. It's very small, you are forever feeding it wood. Very small area to cook on. It's much cheaper and with a bigger work area to cook more food if you just purchase some Stainless Steel mesh, set up you fire & rocks for support. It's slim, easy to pack, no need to clean as the fire will kill all the bacteria.

Another informative and enjoyable video Andy.

Great Video Andy, always nice to get some tips and tricks concerning gear. Cheers from Denmark :)
Thanks for the video on your kit Andy always good to see you out! Sounds like I can hear Parakeets in the background!
haha yeah, they're all over this woodland
Always see them when I work up around the Harrow area! We have some down here now in Plymouth and been here for a couple years now.
Good kit review esp those gloves. Good to know about the clothes.
Thanks for doing this video. You do an outstanding job with all of Your videos . You're one of a kind really great.
Hi Andy great info session thanks for your time 👍🏾🤘🏾
Your videos are awesome and you seem like a great person, Kent! Kind regards from Canada :)
Nice little set of reviews well done at least you use your kit and it's not fresh out the packet think you live fairly near me 😎
Awesome video great kit review thank you Andy, like your chair looks really comfortable . Take care see you in your next video.
Nice video mate, always to see your latest bits you carry on you. Idea for another video, could you do a ‘How you prepare for a wild camp’? From the preparation at home, to the packing and where you decide on camping...etc
good idea, thanks
That's some nice kit mate. Cheers!
Awesome shout on Decathlon! Been looking for affordable outdoor clothes for awhile.
Good video. I am glad you covered the gear. I’ve only subscribed the past month and already wanting to know your gear. I liked the bag pack, especially with the lower price tag. Stoves were good but the cool folding camp chair was a nice surprise. Worth taking up the hills camping I think 🙂
Good info Andy I do love the pack.
I'm looking forward to camping this year when the weather warms up, yes im a wuss but i have old bones lol
Well, don't feel alone about that. I'm in the same boat as you are.😀

@@xaraxania You bet!👍😁The weather where i live in Ca.is finally starting to warm a little.Time to start thinking about camping!!!!!
The best way iv'e found to stop them folding chairs sinking in the mud, is put a log longways between the legs. Bit of a faff getting one the right diameter and the right lenth, but it works.

I thought he chuckled....yes meat for the campfire!
I'm off to Decathlon! Always wondered where your outdoor clothes come from. Thanks Andy 👍
I love them :) I didn't much like the look of the backpack designs either funny enough, can't get enough of their clothes though haha
@@KentSurvival totaly agree!
As a tip / suggestion have seen tennis balls used on the end of legs ... nothern bushcraft for example has his chair set up like that...save pending more on something you can adapt as long as the tennis (or smaller hollow) balls are packable...
Great mate. Thanks for your time
Lol great kit a big Kent I don't know . I'd think it would work great for a main camping bag
Looks like the hunter axe. That is the one I have and love it.
Great video would love to see you do a video on tool maintenance I.e how you sharpen your knives axes etc
Good job bro. what a nice rucksack
Love what you do! Love the cooking! Big fan
Some brilliant kit there. I’m a bit of fair summer weather camper & longing to get out there. Will definitely be adding some of this stuff to my kit
A well-thought and rather affordable kit I've watched you use to much success, Andy. I hope you get more opportunity to use it.
For your axe ‘neck protector’ make one out of bike inner tube. You could use this as a fire lighter in an emergency also.
Great idea
Great video. Nice gear and very well explained.
Some great bits of kit there andy think I will be going to decathlon I like the trousers thanks for sharing atvb Jimmy 😎😎
Good videos
I am kind of addicted to them now
Thank you
Few questions
2. I like to build and use the resources available :)
3. New trees are planted in the main woodland I have used but not by me.. by the woodland workers, they are slowly getting rip of non native species such as sycamore.
I know what you mean about inf..inflat....iflatab..... blow up pillows, must get one of those stuff sacks, awesome. Thanks. ATB Jason.
Excellent Video Andy Love the channel Earl 🇺🇲👍
That chair frame could double as a saw horse!
Btw, you lucky
SOB having both fatwood and birch in one area. C'mon, honestly. lol
Hey buddy, Thanks.. haha.. I like that woodland, a great mix for harvesting but its too close to people to camp :(
I was actually thinking about the condor yesterday at camp..
You may have just solved my "which tent" problem. That hex peak was on the list but it's looking like a done deal now. 🤘
I love my hex :)
Hello, been really enjoying your video’s whilst stuck at home in the middle of lockdown.Great to see and get information on your knife, your saw and some of the tools etc. I’d be interested to learn more about your tinder bag , it’s contents and where you can get the stuff from.Thank you for the videos.
Hi, thank you.. glad the vids have been helping.. thats a great idea for a video :) thanks.. watch this space
I have the 'Kent Survival' patch in exactly the same place on my pack.
Brother, Awesome video and Great gear! Best Regards!
Ooh really like the solonac stuff, and good sizes for us generously sized fellas 😂
If i didnt love my bushlore for every other reason than its softness, id be tempted to do a tested until destruction video on it haha, nice vid mate, atb kev
Cheers Kev, would be interesting to compare our 2 knives together
@@KentSurvival always welcome up here at my woods buddy, could do a fairly big session to make your trip worth while, or catch you on my travels, there are a few smaller meets planned around the Uk with just a few of us too, as i know large crowds aint your thing!
very good to see all these fantastic things, a pity that in Latin America they are very difficult to buy
Yes Andy been waiting for this vid. well worth the wait.
Could you recommend a good starter saw.
Many thanks and keep up the good work 👍
Please allow me to recommend the Bahco Laplander Folding Saw. Be safe. Roger
RkF I couldn’t agree more!
I bought a wee cheap fiskars pruning case from my local hardware shop £7.99. Perfect for twig stoves and tent sticks, lol.
Great video, cheers Andy. Could you do a more detailed video of the different trousers you’ve got. I’ve got a pair of their cheapest ones but I’m looking to upgrade.
Cheers
Would love to see a review on some of the cheaper tents to see if any of them are any good ..p.s brilliant video once again
Brilliantly done * So very helpful * Thank you Kent Survival * :-)
I have purchased 3 items of the video you posted so thanks for that. Having said that, the Bushcraft Essentials stove does not warrant spending £68.00 in my opinion, over priced massively. It's very small, you are forever feeding it wood. Very small area to cook on. It's much cheaper and with a bigger work area to cook more food if you just purchase some Stainless Steel mesh, set up you fire & rocks for support. It's slim, easy to pack, no need to clean as the fire will kill all the bacteria.
