Why didn't i know this? This is a huge help as my daughter never puts my sticks back in the sleeve after her drum practice. I just discovered i was using an odd pair! Thanks for such a great tip.
Wow Darryn, I do the exact same thing with pitch matching sticks. My first drum teacher taught me this same method years ago. When I go to the store to buy brand new sticks... I always bypass the assumption that the sticks are not warped and are pitch matched. If I'm purchasing 2 pair say, I will grab 5 pair, take them all out of their sleeves and begin to check them all for warped ones first. That's the easy part. Then with the good sticks aside, I'll begin pitch matching as you demonstrate in this video. I usually come up with two good pair and sometimes even more. I swear that the employees at the store must think I'm nuts. Lol Thanks for this video.
Canada is getting up there too. Atrocious! I've been putting decorative tape on the area where I do a lot of shots. It doesn't seem to affect the sound much at all. I'm getting quite a bit of mileage out of each pair. I don't wrap the stick where I make contact with hi hat or crash.

so you're undoing what the manufacturer does and markets for the leftover sticks lol
Darryn I like hitting the side of my head with the stick to get the pitch… I like your method better and safer 🤔
