In the UK. The anaesthetic has you awake but also slightly out of it. You also get a view on the screen of what they are looking at. They tell you not to drive yourself home afterwards. I can confirm the sachet of granules they give you to "help you go" works totally as Lee described. You know the expression "The bottom dropped out of my world"? Well, it seemed like the world dropped out of my bottom🤣

The not driving yourself home part reminded me of a time I went to the dentist, I had several temazepam beforehand because they don't use nitrous anymore, and the pharmacist had printed a label saying "bring scarf" on the pill bottle. It was supposed to say "bring escort", although that could've meant a car or a prostitute too I suppose :)

I seem to remember reading an interview with Lee Evans many many years ago, and I think he suffers from anxiety quite badly, and that's a lot of the reason he's sweating and moves so much in his shows. Guy put a lot of effort into what he's done

I went to see his live show 'Big' years ago. He was incredible. Saw Micky Flanagan, Sarah Millican, and Lee Mack live too. We have some brilliant comedians. A couple of others we have seen live and that are famous over here is Omid Djlili and Jason Byrne. Absolutely hysterical both of them. You would recognise Omid from some films. He was in The Mummy and Gladiator. Jason is a hilarious Irish comedian. He does a brilliant sketch about his wonky eye😂.

The two main reasons why you aren't fully sedated in the UK is because of any complications during the procedure, such as seizures, tears, and blockages. Also, the is the recovery time is much shorter. On the plus side, you do get to see everything that is going on.
A Colonoscopy might be uncomfortable for some, just wait until you have a Cystoscopy. That's a whole different story.

Yup that's about right .The effort Lee put in is nothing compared to the real thing . I've had a few of these and you are offered a choice of co-operative ( semi conscious ) sedation requiring someone to take charge of you for 24 hours afterwards , or gas& air which I tried when I couldn't find anyone . Turned the whole thing into a happy experience and walked out the door half an hour later after getting ( and understanding ) the results .

I had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy via my mouth so both ends and apart from an anesthetic spray into my mouth it wasn't a painful procedure in fact they said "they wish all their patients were as calm". i felt a twinge twice as the camera rounded some corners but nothing too bad and i was fascinated looking at the monitor. The powder that cleans you out does a good job .

When I had my colonoscopy I had a student doctor along with the qualified one. She did NOT want to perform this examination but I suspect had to as part of her training. Oh dear. In, out. Left a bit, right a bit, change gear, look in the mirror. Signal. The real doctor complimented me on how clean my colon was, I think to relax him as much as me. At the end of the procedure, whoosh, she was gone. I suspect that's the only colonoscopy she's ever done.
My joke is that I don't mind the camera going up my arse, it's the sound crew I object to.

I had been particularly sick and had had a mild heart attack plus a pulmonary embolism. The Doctors were searching for the big answer as to WHY so I was having a whole battery of tests. Including a colonoscopy. Same thing here in New Zealand: they don't put you out. The Doctor must have been short of apparantus cause I swear he was trying to insert an entire Kodak Instamatic camera... not an actual rectal camera. All the time he and a couple of nurses were looking at the monitors, even moving one so I could view the scene as well, in real time! Then taking a few snapshots... perhaps for his private collection! A delightful Country or Beach scene it was not!
Naturally I asked if he was selling tickets to the event or something... or turning it into a feature movie and he looked at me as if I were the strange one. Oh well. At least I'm still alive. Cheers.

We get no option, it’s here’s your colon on a tv screen as it goes in and a nurse holds your hand and reassures you as they laser off any polyps, they explain what they are looking for and actually say nothing cancerous or worrying. It was quite an interesting experience and a happy ending knowing you didn’t have a revelation of a nasty growth on screen.
