Just watched your tutorial on these towels. I love your step by step attention to details and tips with the explanation of why you do it this way. Your attention to detail is very educational for a newbie who really needs help following the embroidery jargon & using a embroidery machine. Thank you
This has been by far THE BEST instructional video I have watched on UA-cam, from the beginning to the end. You were easy to understand, your explanation of procedure, tips and valuable ‘why’ information was on point. I look forward to watching more on machine embroidery. I am a beginner.
Hi ....loved your video.....thank you very much really appreciated it .....and I watched the hole video.....please don't worry about your messy workroom mine is just the same .....I have been sewing many many years now and I have Come to understand that my workroom will never be tidy .....I am going to make that design for my little grand daughter it is really lovely.....thank you again ....well done to YOU....love Barbara from London England....👍😊xx
This is very beautiful in a job well done. It's okay that you showed every step and it took a little more time. In order to learn and see it takes time on a video to make people comfortable on trying something new and for that I appreciate your video
Truly enjoyed your video and the patient way you explain each step. You take your time which is easy to follow. Like your personality, my daughter and I laughed along with you. I look forward to trying this for my granddaughter. I’m just getting started with embroidery.
What a beautiful hooded towel and excellent tutorial! Your voice is clear and calming. Appreciated your attention to detail in your instruction. Just starting embroidery. After watching your tutorial, I feel much more confident. Thank you!
Love you! You are real! Very organized sewing room? Hahaha. Cleaned up mine yesterday........today it's on the fast track to mess. I do the same thing when company comes. Only I put my guests in my room and I sleep in the sewing/craft room. Enjoyed your explanations of making a hooded towel. Wish I lived near you to come over for fun sewing/embroidering together.
Loved your very informative video. I watched to the end, hoping I could learn how to add the child’s name to the design. But you must have edited this into the design on your machine before starting. If you have a video on this step, I would love to see how this is done. Thanks for a great video.
This is so cute. Thank you for taking the time to show your work, I love the afro unicorn, found some peekaboo girls on Etsy too, same designer, my grand daughters will love this so much, thank you very much.
I loved watching this video. I’m not a beginner and have a 16-needle embroidery machine, but before that I owned a Brother Stellaire. Missing that automatic threader😂 It was very relaxing to watch your entire video. Love this design too. Also the way you made the hooded towel, so the embroidered part doesn’t itch or irritate a child, is very thoughtful. Thank you of giving me a very relaxing ‘me time’, i needed it. Greetings from overseas, The Netherlands.
The Netherlands! How wonderful!! I am happy to know that you liked my video! I do miss the automatic threaders going from the single needle Brothers to the multi-needle, but I love them all. Happy Stitching!!!
Those are beautiful 😍. I saw a video where someone wet the soluble ead they had torn off & tapped it against the small pieces left on the towel. It looked like it came up.
You did an excellent job showing us this technique. By the way, don't worry about showing a messy craft room because if it was all perfectly in place, you would not be as creative. That is also my story and I am sticking to it. :) Keep up the great work. You did a great job explaining it all. Thank you for your time and talent!
Beautiful easy to follow video. Thank you. I have a question. I have never seen heatnbond applied to the fabric and then doubled over. I’ve seen heatnbond applied to the fabric and then ironed on to the towel. Is this a technique that you do and why? It’s interesting.
Thank you. I doubled it over so that the color of the fabric would "pop" because the fabric was really thin and the towel would show through and make the design look "cheap". It's not necessary. If the fabric was a little thicker (higher thread count) I would not have doubled the fabric. The heat n bond is just to keep the fabric from frying overtime with washing. I would use the heat n bond even if the fabric was not doubled.
I watched the entire video and I SO appreciate your attention to detail and explanation. I just bought a 4x4 Brother machine and am almost wishing I waited to get something a little larger. I'm going to do my best to make it work with what I've got. Thank you so much for sharing and you now have another subscriber! (so you can start making lots of money lol)
Thank you so much!!! I started with a 4x4 so I know exactly what you are feeling! There are a few things that can be done with a 4x4, just upgrade when you can and be a creative as possible with the machine you have. 🌞
Omg this video was awesome, I just purchased the brothers pe-100 a new beginner , the towels I love ❤️ and as you were doing them I thought about my grand kids the 2 small ones will this be hard to do for a beginner
No, not hard...just take your time and remember that we all make some mistakes here and there...but practice make it better each time. Jump in and give it a try or two!!
I just stumbled upon your channel and I’ve subscribed! I not only appreciate how you explain steps in the process but I Love, Love, Love your voice!! You should be a voice for audio books 😊. Or maybe a yoga instructor….you are so calm and soothing. Keep up the great work!
I do get designs occasionally on Etsy. But all are not perfect. My favorite places for children designs (right now) are Designs by JuJu and My Petite Fleur Designs
Hi, wondering what kind of mat you are ironing directly on....I accidentally did this and my cutting board is so wavey and is ruined. Is your cutting board one that y ou can iron on? If so, can you share the info on it? These towels are so adorable!!! Thanks so much for your videos. Love them.
This is the one I use for my table. www.joann.com/home-hobby-table-cover/13834643.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw9LSSBhBsEiwAKtf0n9N1oXHWGt71xNS2p-r4tZrVkynsOPkuOuE-tZ2zcqf55KOZbbxWiRoCbvYQAvD_BwE
I just did this and your tutorial is so good, however the first one I did the white bobbin thread kept showing on the front. I adjusted the tension to as far as it would loosen but still showed and had to change the bobbin to the same colour I was using which slowed down the process. Do you know why this would be happening I am using a brother NV800e
I apologize that I am just seeing this. Iam sure you're issue is resolved by now. But I don't mess with my tension for the most part. Maybe once in the past 4 or 5 year. Most of the time, completely re threading top and bottom fixes it when that happens.
I just watched your video and loved everything about your video. Your instructions, your tone of voice were simple and understanding and had to chuckled about your ‘messy’ craft room, just like mine🤣🤣. I do have a question, what size of towel for a 2-3 mos old? I just subscribed to your channel from San Antonio, TX 🥰🥰🥰🥰
How heavy is the tear away stabilizer that you used on the back of the towel? Does the tear away stabilizer come in light, medium and heavy weight? Do you have a particular brand that you prefer?
Thank you for watching! Yes, the tear away does come in different weights. I like a medium weight (1.5 or 2.0 oz weight) which is fairly sturdy, but still easy to actually tear away. I lime Allstitch, but they have been out lately so I order from Amazon or Madeira.
No, it shoud not. Right around the 1hr 9 min mark I show how the hood is enclosed (doubled over) so that the stitching is inside of the hood, making it soft to prevent head irritation.
I used a 6x10 hoop for this design. It can also be done with 5x7 hoop, just use a 5x7 design. It will be a little smaller, but not much smaller and will still look good. 🌞
The store I purchased the afro unicorn design was www.etsy.com/shop/TulleLand However, it appears that they are not currently selling on Etsy. The Dinosaur design is from DesignsbyJuju.com
Yes. It would take an additional step or so but it can be done if you stitch the two rounded parts and bump them against each other and then sew the hood on.
Have you tried Organ needles? My babylock was calibrated in factory with Organ needle. I find that when I use a different needle I have issues. Embroidery thread is tricky. Catch the video from superior threads bob. It applies to all threads not just theirs. My machines are picky i hac two. They act differently with different threads.
I love this project and can’t wait to get started! You mentioned that you will make adjustments in the hood for your 9 year old son. Can you elaborate a bit? I have a couple of 10 year old grands that will want a hooded towel too but a folded hand towel probably won’t fit their heads. Thank you for such a terrific video. I subscribed immediately. 😊
Oh yes! For my sons, I used 2 hand towels sewn together long ways and folded where the seam holds them together so that the hood is bigger then attached the same way. It may be too late, but next weekend I will try to do a video showing how I do the hood for big kids and adults.
@@SouthernAudacity Not too late. I have younger grands who can use the smaller size and can start with those. I appreciate your response and look forward to the new video, as I am sure many others will who want to make the bigger size as well. 😊
@@SouthernAudacity I am guessing that to make a larger hood, you put the 2 hand towels one on the other and cut a little past center for extra width, sew them together and proceed as the other lined hoods. Is that correct? How much extra do you add for a 10 year old and would that be the same for a 7 and 8 year old. Thank you so much.
WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR DESIGN WITH THE FONT? YOU SAID YOU HAD IT ALREADY LOADED BUT I DID NOT HEAR YOU SAY WHERE IT CAME FROM. SORRY IF YOU SAID AND I MISSED IT. GREAT VIDEO.
Yes... I make them into hooded towel. The other design is actually a dragon from Designs by JuJu. But she has some really cute dinosaurs and other designs. My peeker design is the 5x7 and I use a bigger hoop to add the name at one hooping.
Hi Southern Audacity I was just saying that you haven't posted anything in a minute and bam here you are. Yup your right this is a very complex design. But im here till the end. Another money making project. Question: so are you always using white thread for the bobbin? Also I know it's folded in half the crosswise grain but is it on a single thickness. I see it's singular but center on the crosswise. Oh THIS IS GORGEOUS
Yes, my day job has had me busy and my son is reminding now that when I make things... I need to record. I actually stopped halfway through this video and went to bed (when I said I needed to take a break). But yes, I always use white bobbin thread for the embroidery unless it is "free standing" lace because with that type of project, you would see the bobbin thread. As long as your tension is right in the embroidery machine, your bobbin thread will not show on top. I do match the thread from the bobbin in the sewing machine to match the top thread. With the hood, yes it is folded and the whole hood is actually doubled and the towel part is single. I do it this way so that the embroidery does irritate the child's head in the event that they have thin hair or are very sensitive. I hope I am understanding your question.
@@SouthernAudacity Thanks for responding, I got it now. I as well are watching this on the second day, lol. And when I clean up my space I can't find anything. Maybe you could have embroidery a flower on that spot.
The store I purchased the afro unicorn design was www.etsy.com/shop/TulleLand However, it appears that they are not currently selling on Etsy. The Dinosaur design is from DesignsbyJuju.com

How can I make this baby towel without the pointed hood?
Cutting a curve at the top before sewing would smooth out the point and make it more in the shape that you see on hoodies.
What design is the unicorn
It is from TulleLand on Etsy.
It turned out very cute, but wouldn't the hood be rough on the head/skin of newborns and toddlers?
