Damn, all that shiny chrome on that Freight Shaker could not solve computer/mechanical issues, but boy she sure looked and sound great before crapping out. You partner with a great company and how grateful that they have your back!
That’s why I miss the good old days! Vehicles were so easy to work on and could always tell when the fuel pump was going out being they were mechanical. No computers or all this electric crap one has to worry about going out. Open the hood and all motor and a few wires.
Believe it or not but the ring gear separating from the flywheel is a pretty common CAT issue. Personally I've never experienced it on a 3406, but tons of times on the 3126 in Shaker FL 80's. We would stock them just in case. If it was mine I would just weld the sucker back on and replace the whole flywheel next clutch replacement. But ultimately up to you man, your rig your rules.
At least you were at home when Orwell broke down. That Coronado sure is quiet. See how the 680 does. Yup you got a lot done fore sure. Once you get back and fix Orwell slow down some. One man can only carry so much weight on his shoulders. Your taking the breakdown really well. No use getting upset, it changes nothing and gives you I’ll feelings. Your one hell of a guy FSC. Not many could have done what you did, have a breakdown, changed tractors then change tractors again and this trip has yet to really start, your still in your yard. Many would have walked away. Well it will work out in the end, I know you will see to that. Have a great and a safe day. Happy trails and happy motoring…
The timing could have been a lot worse, he could have broken down while you're dropping the load, then you'd have the trip back, the trip back out with the company truck, then the trip back to the shop, and that wouldn't have been cheap, then the cost to rebuild Orwell, and yes I'm a glass half full type of guy, keep your chin up big guy, things can always be worse. Keep up the great content, Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧
Classic Freightliner, mine only goes into derate when Im running low on time. Shop said it needed to regen but it didnt do anything then said to run it at 55 till it comes out of derate.
If you want cruise control in orwell I can help you out with that. I have added cruise control to many mechanical engine diesel trucks and I can usually do it for under $100. I can send you a parts list and draw up wiring diagrams and the entire install should take you about 2-3 hours.
Well Steve, I checked out to see what engines are in the Freightliner rigs & I found 4 of them, the Cummins x12 engine & 3 different Detroit engines, DD13,DD15 & the DD16,these are in the new Freightliner rigs,so when you get time you might have to some digging to see which one is in the Freightliner, let me know something okay,I would Appreciate it very much if you can okay thanks
I feel real bad aha, this load starts with Orwell, Orwell breaks down with flywheel issues, Company truck takes over from Orwell to get the load delivered, company truck breaks down with possible engine sensor issues, and finally second company truck takes over from first company truck that took over from Orwell, to get the load delivered, man what a day.😆Still was cool to see the Kenworth again, and another truck we haven't seen on the channel before, though you still can't beat Orwell she just sounds and looks so much better in my eyes. 👌👍
Well to be honest, Orwell did you a favor by breaking down in the shop. Saved you a lot of money at home verses on the road. Because we know how the shops are on the road are. And to answer your questions about buying and storing parts for Orwell, well that's a no brainer. If you break something on a Friday night and you have parts, well that's a win. And if you buy parts now and the price goes thru the roof, you just Saved even more money. Also some parts will interchange between the 3406a and others I just don't know which ones. A d having parts for both engines could be a blessing later. So good luck no matter what way you go. Also be kind to the k whopper. You don't need three trucks in one week. People will talk!
At least Orwell broke down at home not out in the middle of BFE. Those freightliners with the DD engines in them are nothing but a piece of junk. I like the way they look and the interior and everything but only way I'd ever owned one is if it was a glider. Stay safe out there Steve.
I feel your frustration, Steve. I have to drop a new ac compressor in my personal truck in the morning and I've been having AC issues all summer long and our summer has been one of the consistent hottest over 100 so until it's doing polar vortex, I'm not going to risk it even though it's been frustrating and I'm hoping after all this money I've had to drop to see a result at the end of the tunnel which ends the problem and I hope the same for you too because it's never fun when something you can't see rears its ugly head in your face like a virus.
Sorry to hear about about Orwell breaking a ring gear. At least that happened at the shop and not out on the road. You do lfok good at the wheel of 007.
I hope I don't hurt Orwell's feelings, but your intro was wow. Killer. The black rig looked very nice. Sorry Orwell is hurt, but he will be back. Darn, another swap out of rigs mid trip. 👍✌
Hi Steve and I would completely agree with you about electronic faults on modern vehicles. Trucks in England are now mainly ( I believe) automatics? . If the brains in the computer say ,s no you go into what is known as limp mode . Reduced power . Many years ago my father's cousins ran a haulage business and they also ran older cab over trucks. Same reason as you no electronics to malfunction !! Just a mechanic to fix the problems. Most UK trucks are European cabovers . Volvo ,mercedes are very popular. I admire the fact that you are dare I say a brave man ? To operate a near 40 year old vehicle on probably the hardest transport job there is low loader trailer work !!!
Dang Q ball. We're going to have to get you a tank to drive.😂 You will get it all worked out. Maybe you can find you some help when you get back home.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Your truck broke when you weren't on the road. You're still ahead of the game: you could be paying a truck note on a new one, instead you have a relatively inexpensive repair that you can do yourself. Be safe don't get hurt, & God bless.
I am also in youe business, just different country. But i would never dare to repair a running truck until the load is delivered. But the thing is, that you still habe another option to deliver your fright. Good luck with repairing Orwell. 😊 p.s. Great video again.
Break downs happen, Orwell will be back on the road. You just don’t have the time. The Ford isn’t something that needs to be done in a hurry, since you’ve got Orwell. If its about growing the channel, I think just doing some upgrades to Orwell and it would of done the same. I follow truck channels and those that do really well, comes down to the trucks looking nice. Chrome, great sounding, Jakes barking. Just don’t over work yourself Steve! The De-Rating doesn’t happen a lot. Usually it does it and it’s done. But better safe than sorry. The way they clean the exhaust it’s dirty so it gets really hot yo burn out the soot. Great choice to take the 660 or whatever model that was.
That’s a great looking Coronado ….sweet ride ….Orwell so badly needs polished alcoas all around ….would make such a huge difference….oh and of course a new flywheel 💪👊☝️😆….dam dude nice KW too ….dont break that now …..that company does have nice trucks !!!
New & shiney don't mean squat when you can't trust it. My 1986 Brazil Ford 6.6 might be slow but gave me lots of warning and a lot of work before telling me it's time to swap the water pump or next trip might need a tow. Old n slow like me but also reliable like me: I'll give everything I've got with good notice before the tired bones need a rest. 🤩😜🤷
Great video Steve really enjoy all the different camera angles and your commentary. Not good But at least you still have options to get the load delivered. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Steve.
That's a Detroit Series 60 in the Coronado either a 440 or a 560 back by a 13 speed very nice ride. That's not good to hear about Orwell being broken down but I'm glad it was that shop and not on the side of the road or at a Truck Stop parking lot. Safe Travels and God Bless From Kidd Trouble
Hey, count your blessings that if Orwell had to break, it was at the shop when it did. It could've happened somewhere like the NJ Turnpike where I've broke down before. Not fun.
Wow, that truck is super quiet compared to Orwell. Orwell never really seemed that noisy to me since that is the vintage I grew up with. I did not realize how much cushier the trucks have become. Add an automatic and like a big minivan.
I was thought not to move the splitter until you are going to make the shift. Preselecting the splitter early will ware out the ring that the slitter fork rides on. Just saying cause it looked like you were moving the splitter valve early. Maybe I am wrong but just saying. Thanks and I enjoy all your videos.
Hi Steve Orwell is more reliable than the new truck's and Orwell is only a little sick, that Freightliner takes a dicky fit (new age man flu) every time it gets to do any work. Plus a derated engine does more damage to the engine than if there was a physical problem with the engine, even engine's that are speed limited have more damage than a engine that is not speed limited. You will have Orwell back on his feet showing the newbies how to do it.
drove kw 660 with 13spd auto isx cummins & had problem dialing the king pins, thing would over-correct constantly, i ditched that truck, with that steer wheel pulled in its almost a cab-over, after that went back to the 362 pete
regen button! she needs a regeneration on the exhaust. sometimes you have to stop, set brakes, hit button, it will idle up, and can take up to 30 minutes, depending on setup, should regen while, you are driving tho?
Your lucky Orwell is in ur shop and not broken down 500+ miles away. That's a bummer having to use another company truck. I bet that truck was supposed to be near the garage of the company instead of being handed to u. Hopefully everything goes smoothly I'm the KW. Freightliner hell don't have any good pulling compacity pulling power. Allot of the trucks we own are Peterbilts and KW'S. We test drive new semi's for the dealerships and allot of times they don't do great at pulling. Thsts why I like the older ones better no high tech computer stuff.
That newer truck looks pretty but it doesn't have the character or nice engine sound Orwell has. Figures the replacement truck had to be replaced due to some crazy stuff.
I don’t hate the 120sd if I had a to drive a shaker that would be the one I’d drive. The computer bs is annoying for sure I have seen those trucks cause nothing but issues
I never knew the gear on the end of flywheel plates were in fact a separate ring. Then, this thing decided to go on the fritz.... When it rains, it pours.
You should not have to buy a new fly wheel .You just buy a new ring gear .They only need to be heated a bit and they expand, you drop them on the fly wheel give them a couple of taps to seat them and they shrink on tight.
No trouble easy as I have been doing it for years. Any competent mechanic can do it.The morons they have in spare parts dept these days will try to sell you a whole fly wheel because they want to sell you more.
I love the cabovers but the freightliners and peterbilts are way nicer. Theres more room to move built in firdges and the bunks are really comfortable. Air conditioner and tv's for when your down for 10 hours.
I’m glad that Orwell is at home and broken instead of being in B F Egypt and broken. 👍
I haven't heard that line in years. Good one! 🤘
Damn, all that shiny chrome on that Freight Shaker could not solve computer/mechanical issues, but boy she sure looked and sound great before crapping out. You partner with a great company and how grateful that they have your back!
Don't stress over Orwell's breakdown. Thing could be much worse. You're a smart guy and I trust you will have a solution to the problem.
That’s why I miss the good old days! Vehicles were so easy to work on and could always tell when the fuel pump was going out being they were mechanical. No computers or all this electric crap one has to worry about going out. Open the hood and all motor and a few wires.

Orwell breaking down inside the shop,is a blessing in desquise.
Well dang, that sucks! But glad you can hopefully now be able to deliver the load. Be safe Steve!
At least you were at home when Orwell broke down. That Coronado sure is quiet. See how the 680 does. Yup you got a lot done fore sure. Once you get back and fix Orwell slow down some. You ARE hustling, Sir. I hope you can slow a bit. I like your attitude, "If you can solve it, it isn't a problem." I have to remember that
The timing could have been a lot worse, he could have broken down while you're dropping the load, then you'd have the trip back, the trip back out with the company truck, then the trip back to the shop, and that wouldn't have been cheap, then the cost to rebuild Orwell, and yes I'm a glass half full type of guy, keep your chin up big guy, things can always be worse. Keep up the great content, Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧
That Coronado tho... 😍😍😍😍too bad it's not legal to throw a mechanical engine in that!
Classic Freightliner, mine only goes into derate when Im running low on time. Shop said it needed to regen but it didnt do anything then said to run it at 55 till it comes out of derate.

Hahahaha, I almost went up to the state college airport to look for Orwell! Glad I didn’t now, wouldn’t have been looking for the right truck!
At least Orwell broke down at home not out in the middle of BFE. Those freightliners with the DD engines in them are nothing but a piece of junk. I like the way they look and the interior and everything but only way I'd ever owned one is if it was a glider. Stay safe out there Steve.

Wiedmeyer must be the only company that still using manual transmission for company trucks 😏 guess that means..."NO STEERING WHEEL HOLDERS"
Sorry to hear about about Orwell breaking a ring gear. At least that happened at the shop and not out on the road. You do lfok good at the wheel of 007.

I sure do like them Coronado’s tho! Especially the gliders with detroits

That truck has a cool number, oo7😂.
Damn they keep their trucks CLEAN!
New & shiney don't mean squat when you can't trust it. Don't worry Steve you'll have Orwell back running in a jif! 👍
Hi Steve I miss Orwell I like it when you take off and all that beautiful coal coming out of Orwells stacks
Just do what you do Steve, that’s plenty entertaining as it is.
Sweet Ride. Glad you can get a loaner.
Spun ring gear, Vhat a Tvist!
So, all is good besides that. :P Steady on!
Spare parts are always good to have on hand.
That's a Detroit Series 60 in the Coronado either a 440 or a 560 back by a 13 speed very nice ride. That's not good to hear about Orwell being broken down but I'm glad it was that shop and not on the side of the road or at a Truck Stop parking lot. Safe Travels and God Bless
From Kidd Trouble
Not unless it's a glider kit which I doubt it is considering at has a DEF tank, the truck is a 2015 and the Series 60 was discontinued in 2011
It's got a dd15
Hope u get Orwell ring gear work out. tuff working by ur self..
That’s a damn nice company truck fsc! Go Pack Go!!
Maybe you could find a 3406B for the 352. Then Orwell and the 352 would use the same parts. Just a thought. Love your show.
Hey, count your blessings that if Orwell had to break, it was at the shop when it did. It could've happened somewhere like the NJ Turnpike where I've broke down before. Not fun.
More than likely you have a dd13 or dd15. Detroit they look weird all Shiney and they sit real low in the frame. They run twin turbochargers
Wow, that truck is super quiet compared to Orwell. Orwell never really seemed that noisy to me since that is the vintage I grew up with. I did not realize how much cushier the trucks have become. Add an automatic and like a big minivan.

Like u said you were blessed. Better to be broken at home than on the road finding a way to get home lol.
I hope you get Orwell back on the road soon
Will you film taking the gearbox out , would like to see that
Possibly
Cool I’m just watching that now , brilliant
drove kw 660 with 13spd auto isx cummins & had problem dialing the king pins, thing would over-correct constantly, i ditched that truck, with that steer wheel
pulled in its almost a cab-over, after that went back to the 362 pete
regen button! she needs a regeneration on the exhaust. sometimes you have to stop, set brakes, hit button, it will idle up, and can take up to 30 minutes, depending on setup, should regen while, you are driving tho?
If Orwell was gonna break down the shop is the perfect place to break down!
😂 Damm that freightliner looks on yur channel
Riding in style Steve in that hood
RIP YELLOW. Darn shame what the industry is going through.
With the luck of Orwell breaking down in the shop/home base, you should now go and play Lottery. Seems like your luck has come in.
I don’t run modern engines I love the old stuff
Just goto the casino and go “all-in”😂
Hey I hate that happened but to me your video is not bored I enjoy all your videos be careful and be safe 😊
Just another little kick ion the balls. Makin due. Good to have a fleet relatively nearby.
Careful too quiet it's not sleepy time with the smooth ride.
It's good to have friends that trust you enough to help you out when you get in a bind.
Keep on Trucking!!
Keep the coronado and park the outdated cabover. Makes trucking so much more comfortable
Not a bad looking freightliner,007 the James Bond freightliner
Nice to have options. Best wishes.
Hang in there brother
Your lucky Orwell is in ur shop and not broken down 500+ miles away. That's a bummer having to use another company truck. Do you mind me asking how new trucks struggle at pulling compared to old? is the ABS system causing too much slip?
That newer truck looks pretty but it doesn't have the character or nice engine sound Orwell has. Figures the replacement truck had to be replaced due to some crazy stuff.
If its red, its s cummins. If it just gray, its a detroit.
When it rains it pours eh Steve!
I don’t hate the 120sd if I had a to drive a shaker that would be the one I’d drive. The computer bs is annoying for sure I have seen those trucks cause nothing but issues
26:17 Getting a flywheel warning light? 😃
Keep running big dog
FSC you be in Michigan on August 12th from Adrian,Michigan
Venting isn't complaining. Everyone needs to vent.
Hope Orwell being back on the road again soon.
Some days are better then others. But it's not always bad as u know
That Freightliner rig sounds like it's got a train engine in it
You having all the bad luck with this trip. I've had a few of those days
02 censor or the big plug on the bottom of the dpf been there on a 2015 122sd myself
Thats a Pretty Good looking Coranado I like the Unit # 007 Cheers
I never knew the gear on the end of flywheel plates were in fact a separate ring. Then, this thing decided to go on the fritz.... When it rains, it pours.
Only on a standard transmission, auto trans is a one piece
@@jeremiahsullivan5219 Thank you
Did you check the blinker fluid? it's an known issue with that model, and braking down in the shop is better then out on the road.
Steve.....that Coranado is wayyyyy to quiet. And no coal......bummer
Good thing Orwell broke at the shop.🔧
Different horse same wagon. Get out there and pull the wagon.🔧
Good evening brother wow beautiful rental truck
Be grateful that Orwell did break down while in your shop and not out in the middle of nowhere.
We all like the big og but it’s gotta be nice to be able too properly get dressed or anything for that matter in the sleeper like standing up lol
I totally agree with you I run a 3406b mechanical Cat motor in a 1990 Freightliner I am totally independent with my own company and trailer
You should not have to buy a new fly wheel .You just buy a new ring gear .They only need to be heated a bit and they expand, you drop them on the fly wheel give them a couple of taps to seat them and they shrink on tight.
That’s sounds like more more work and trouble then it’s worth.
I did a moderation on my 188 Kenworth cabover and I keep extra parts for it just in case.👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Most likely a dd16, not too often you see a cummins in the freightliner unless ordered that way
Nice looking truck.
Time for a change Orwell retirement is good it's a cool look for u
