LOVE my 1st gen. Been going strong for 17 years now. Not a lot of 1st gen love out there on youtube so this channel has been very fun and refreshing :) Great work!
Thank you!! Gotta love these trucks!
I gotta 97 I've had since 02. I plan on keeping it forever.
Better than any $30,000 truck I’ve ever seen. By far
Thanks man!
True but I can barely haul anything
Honestly, I think this is the most badass Toyota I’ve ever seen.
I’m a Chevy/Jeep guy myself but this is one of my favorite channels by far! Awesome work, I really enjoyed watching the transformation. Keep the content coming.
Thanks!!!
Just an incredible truck, top to bottom! One of my favorites you've done! Can't wait to see what's next! Keep up the great work Austin!

Thank you!! I’m excited for the next build as well!

@@allenhorne7032 he said Hi, how are you? Would you like to sell me the vehicle that you put together.
I really enjoyed this project! Anxious to see what you’re doing next.
Damn gorgeous truck! I had an '04 with the 2.7l and sold it at 280,000 miles. All it needed was the fuel pump replaced. It's still on the road. If I could've afforded to keep it I would've loved to diesel swap it. Great job.
Your skill set and and attention to detail is quite impressive!! The pride you take in your craft shows in the final product. The truck sits wonderfully, the sheet metal (doors, fenders, bed etc) is smooth af and the paint looks gorgeous (depth and clarity of the finish is awesome). Also- you do a great job summarizing your build - speaking clearly, not rambling on, and you definitely captivate your audience. Keep up the great work! Continued success to you!!
Wow, thank you!
Thank you for making this vid. It's really informative and helps people to realize what it really is gonna cost for a custom project. You do wonderful work and am looking forward to seeing what you create next.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!!
I really enjoyed this build, and look forward to your next project.
You should be taking orders on these builds. I am sure people would pay for your quality work!
I would in a heartbeat!
I second that motion. I would love a diesel swap in my 91 pickup.
You did an amazing job on your truck. It's been fun watching your videos. I'm so excited to see your truck moving forward and other projects.
Thanks 👍 Glad you are enjoying the videos!
That is the cleanest Tacoma I’ve seen yet. Congrats on the build. Also your almost at 150k!
Thank you! Almost there!!!!
We need a shop tour!!! You look so organized in all of your videos and have such a cool looking place.
Just crazy how it all mounts up, I'm in at about 12-15k on my build, and to look at it you'd think it was worth 3-5k🤣..... till you drive it, and it gives you whiplash😎, just about to do arb's front and rear and coilovers..... there is no end to it🤣🤦♂️👍
Well done Austin. I enjoyed following this project.
Nice build! It’s well worth the money especially when you can do the work yourself. Love that Tacoma!
Sounds almost exactly like the old 3L's, love every part of it!
I wouldn't think it would cost you that much,, mostly because you do so much yourself , but you definitely made it so well it so worth it , this one and the cherry 🍒 they are truly unique builds !
Building a double cab with an om606 right now! Thanks for the inspo!
Excellent work on this build!
Exterior looks perfect. Lets see you customize the interior!
Your mechanical and fabrications skills are outstanding
Thank you!!
If it appears you enjoy the builds and it shows. Thanks for sharing. I saved you website. I just acquired a 2004 prerunner with 100400 miles for my daughter to go to college. When she upgrades, I get to start.
Man youre badass genius. We need more of this toyota diesel.
Great looking truck, nice mods and built not bought. Love it 👍👍👍
Absolutely amazing build! Wow! Just wow!
Very inspiring! If there was a love or heart button I would use it instead of thumbs up. I'm new to the Tacoma and it's been an interesting journey so far with frame rust issue in particular. First purchased a 2nd Gen ended up with frame rot, so returned it to dealer. I purchased a 1st Gen from private owner I paid way too much for and I am intimidated by the amount of work I need to put into it to be honest. This channel is making me feel better about the potential of my Tacoma. Thanks!
Great looking truck and a great price. One of a kind for sure. My mind is racing wondering what project you have next.
I'm doing this to a 2005 scion XB. And almost done. And you my sir just got a new subscriber
I'll have some videos on my page soon
Just in awe… the truck is very nice don’t get me wrong but the fact you did all that yourself? Very impressive INSANE actually. I wish I could have the know how to do half that. Just wow brotha
Thanks man!! I appreciate that!
I'm not surprised. I spent 20 grand in 2016 to build my 1993 xtra cab with a 5VZ-FE swap. Truck already had the lift, good original paint and interior, so cost was mostly for drivetrain. If you factor your labor at the same as materials, plus markup, you would need to get 35k for this truck. Still a good deal when i see what good used Tacoma and Tundra are going for. Unreal what people are asking for all beat up and used up Toyota's on Craigslist.
Yeah tell me about it! Prices these days are crazy!!
I wish I could repaint , rebuild the engine, lift w wheels & tires and build or buy front & rear bumpers w winch on my 01 tundra.
Yours is really nice and you’re super talented
Thank you!!
Straight to every point, love it
Love the truck and a good stand up guy. You got my vote, nice job
This is the content I have been looking for! !
I’ve enjoyed this build a ton. Thinking about building the bumpers for mine. Any plans for the hilux yet?
Wow! This should be a video in high school auto class. How to restore an old truck. Sweet truck man love the color and overall look.
Truck turned out very nice, congrats!
Damn man I’ve been wanting a diesel 3rd 4Runner for a while now. This gives me inspiration. I definitely would also like to buy an 01 Hilux Surf diesel when they hit the 25 yr mark. Awesome build Austin.
Thanks! Do it!!!
@@austinniemela I really appreciate your channel and the work you do. You have an amazing talent and am glad you share with all us other Toyotaholics.
my hubby just built a tacoma diesel his has a 4bt cummins...works awesome
i wanna see more project soon! love your trucks!! especially the RED one!
Beautiful rig, fantastic job. I'm chipping away at a 96 Tacoma 3.4, 5spd 4X4.
Awesome! Thank you!!
Wow! Awesome built! A One -of-kind…Priceless!
And “TALENTED”. Builder!
Aloha
Such a good finished build
Immaculate work brother!!🙌🏻🔥
Thanks man!
Awesome work. Those bumpers are bad ass man. Sweet truck
Thanks man!!!
Yeah way cool. Great truck and your work is fantastic. Thanks for sharing that. It is a very good overall cost actually. Plus you have a not just a beautiful little truck. But it is fully customized and basically brand new. I would venture to say that it's far more capable as well.
Alright 👍 beautiful truck. Now we look forward to seeing what's next... lol.
I like how you are very creative and have very nice smart ideas the red truck is my favorite built love it
It is a masterpiece my friend!! I wish I could do some of that work myself. Especially a manual swap in my 2004 crew cab.
Do it! It’s not too hard!
@@austinniemela where did you get all of the information needed for the swap?
@@midnightzombie2811 research on the forums! There is a ton of info out there!
🤯 so impressive!!!! Congrats 👏
Absolutely amazing job!
Thanks!
Glad mine already has a new trans and tcase, already lifted just need to figure out the rest now.
Geeeeeez! I take it you're a body shop/mechanic full time? Truck sounds stacked and well taken care of with you being the owner.
I say it's very much worth it... just shows you can extend the life of your own vehicle for another 20 years and it's like making payments for each thing you upgrade on... you can upgrade speakers for 1 month payment then wheels for next 4 months etc
Really nice job, it's nice you gave real numbers. I'm just curious why you went IFS and not solid axle?
this is my favorite build to date
Great work
Awesome stuff congrats
Very nice sir. I love the diesel swap. Hell, you spent a pretty penny on her. But all well worth it!
Awesome job!
Great job man looks amazing, dream truck.
Thank you!!
Great work done! Thanks for interesting videos Austin. Why don't you use LED headlights? Or LED bulbs with those lenses?
Miss my 1st gen. I would love to do something like this one day.
You see these Tacomas everywhere in Hawaii. They really love these things out there!!
I've seen a few om606 mercedes swap threads, sweet motor but so big and long they had to do a lot of cutting to make it fit. Love the i6 sound but if I ever do a diesel swap I'd do a tdi 4 cylinder for ease of fitting.
Awesome build! Im trying to build a 3rd gen 4runner myself, im currently doin my frame. What dis you use on your frame?
Great project, money well spent!
Man this is awesome!
Ha, I think I went the wrong direction with my mTDI ALH swap (on my channel if you want to see). I have as much in the injection pump alone as you do in the whole engine and tune. But yeah that price is about par for the course. I have about $15k into my samurai. TDI swap, bigger trans, custom built doubler, custom driveshafts, custom injection pump, adapter kit, lockers, chromoly axle shafts, wheels and tires, bumpers, winch, springs, high steer, steering box upgrade, clutch, exhaust....... pretty much everything you've done except the paint. and next week I'm buying some used toyota axles with air lockers for it.
All in all though, that is one badass build Austin. Super clean, and should be dead reliable.
sweet sounds like a badass build!! Thanks man!!
I have considered a similar build on a 4runner. A few questions, what type mpg are you getting with the diesel? What was your hp and torque after tuning? What other diesel engines did you consider such as the Cummins R2.8. Last, do you carry replacement insurance in case of an accident and insurance won't pay for all the upgrades? Love the truck. I have it's big brother, 1st gen green Tundra.
Wow look at this guy with a clean frame.. must be nice.
Gorgeous build, did you consider using an om616 or om606? I've seen a bunch of 2nd and 3rd gen 4runners with them in the pnw.
Nice!!!!
I wanted to do same but scared. I got the truck(t100 1996 man, 4wd with 3.4). I also purchased a 2LTE with manual tranny/ 4wd diff. I am confused about the electrical
Nice truck !!
Awesome truck bro
That is alot of hardwork to get that done.
Great looking build...always impressed with your know how. Let's get on that lil Hilux 🍺✌🏼🤣
I like my 3rd gen, but man I absolutley love this rig. Phenomenal job brother 👌
Brilliant love it🥇
Really nice!
Question… what did you do about the ecu for the 5spd swap?
because the Toyota ecus run the rear power windows in this model. So do your rear power windows work currently?
truck turned out awesome.
Thanks 👍
I would love to do this with my 01 Taco!
Hey 👋 bro, you r the pro, gr8 work and keep it up.Regards.....
It’s a sweet build and I think it is worth it!!
Thanks! For sure it’s worth it!!!
$16k well spent loved every minute of this series and loved the finished result can’t wait to see what’s up next. Can I suggest a Toyota hilux 🤌🏼
Same thought here, one can buy a 2.8L diesel from the Hilux relatively cheap in Mexico.
@@tdgdbs1 how do you import it? Last I check it’s a pain in the neck to import one, but I’m hoping I’m wrong
Bad ass love it man!!!
Thanks brother!!
If possible would like to know where you got the window trim that goes on the outside with the plastic lower part of window by the handle.
Awesome build! I DD an 01, but would love to build it similar to this soon. Do you think the towing rating increases much with the TDI in there?
Definitely not.
The rating is based on the chassis and braking. Just because you can get something to move with more power doesn't mean you should pull it
I have a 2001 prerunner 2..7 liter 4cylinder 2wd that has 442000 miles on original everything. I would love to do this to it.
God damn, that color is beautiful.
Good work the truck is nice
you do great work i bought a trd taco 22 i would rather have a diesel taco like this for sure
I really want something like this for overlanding
love it!!! 💯💯💯
Me and nan are proud of you Austin
Absolutely beautiful truck! Enjoy it man! Curious what kind of mpg it gets and how many hours you have into it (if you tracked that)?
I haven’t drove the truck enough to check and a lot of hours haha probably a solid 9 months worth full time
@@austinniemela So, that’s around 1600 hrs at $10 per hr = $16,000. You are worth 5 times that or more. One hell of a build !! And a lot of great content and information Thanks for taking us along Austin👍
I'm not sure what swap Im going to do as I have an LS, ALH and BEW sitting on my shop floor. Displacement for days and swap some 1 ton axles under it, or go for insane fuel mileage and rd trip everywhere with the thing. Lol options options options
I'd love to see this swap out wheeling and on the highways how it does
Austin, since it is a 2004 how did you manage the ODBII and the inspection process?
