Having heard this amazing performance repeatedly I find it truly magical. I guess the only way to interpret a Kate Bush song in order to make it relevant is to explore it deeply and find new layers and new meaning. Anne Sofie von Otter does exactly that. She makes HER version complete refreshing, relevant and capturing. This comes from a huge Kate Bush fan (who travelled from Denmark to London twice to attend her 2015 concerts). I wonder who arranged the song for voice and string quartet, it truly is an amazingly creative arrangement. I am filled with such joy watching AFvO performing the song because I can sense her warmth and how she has fun, real fun, performing the song with the Brooklyn Rider. She is so real as opposed to wearing a "opera singer sings pop music" mask. Oh yes, and I do love her voice....doesn't it just get better and better with time?
I love Kate Bush’s music, and it is great to hear others interpret it afresh. Her lyrics to this song are, ironically, incomplete, as she omitted one of the digits of pi in the sequence quoted. Pretty witty, that.
