Loved this movie. All Quiet on the western front offers unflinching brutality of war while others war films we have seen over the years romanticized warfare and heroism in Warfield which isn't exactly true. And the ending is so brutal and slightly unnecessary (not in a bad way from movie's pov). The original film (1930) already has 2 oscars in it's belt and this one right here has 9 nominations so far. I do not support the Nazi Ideology in any way, but you have to admire their uniforms, they're so regal! I have watched almost ever world war 2 film there ever was, but world war 1 wasn't documented as well as the second world war, the only major world war 1 film i think was 1917, it was excellent but still didn't spark my interest, on the other hand there's Schindler's list, saving private Ryan and many more which documented the second world war perfectly

Don't mean to sound like a brat, but the original film adaption was from the 30's. You're refering to the second one, which was indeed from the 70's.
Effects-wise, this Netflix adaption was good in most cases. The sounds, the mud, the explosions; pretty impressive.
But what bothered me the most was that unlike the first two movies, we weren't given much time with its characters in this one, even the missing ones like Corporal Himmelstoss and Paul's family.
The 70's film lays down the characters and you get to know them one by one, sometimes only through context. As the movie progresses, each one of Paul's friends die in numerous ways like a machine gun, gas, or artillery until Paul is the last one standing, eventually becoming the "old man" of his newer and much younger platoon. Unfortunately, he will die in the final days of the war, ending with nothing intense. Just a sniper bullet to the head; another statistic.
Sorry for my tiny rant. There are so many other things that I like the original films over Netflix, and I'm sure that it too does have its goods. But I don't feel the true AQOTWF experience in this one and instead another simply WW1 movie.

Easily in my top 3 war films of all time. Oddly enough, one of my other favorites is also German; Das Boot, very similar themes.

Geez i can't believe they made these trenches for the movies! Incredible. And to get it that accurate to the real thing.

As someone who makes films I do not have the capacity to say a film is bad. Every movie has extreme effort put into it, even the modern Hollywood garbage. But must say that this film is bloody fantastic in every way, hats off to everybody who worked on it.

The fact that Paul survives till the end, only to get stabbed near the heart right before the bell rings to signify the armistice is saddening.
