I’ve been a fan for a while and I love the deep dropping and reef and wreck fishing the best and I think that it is so cool that you get to do this as your job and I hope to pursue a career like yours one day and get to do the things that you get to do

Hey Capt. I decided to go on a deep drop trip for golden tiles off New Jersey in April. I've been watching your videos and have a pretty good idea what I'm getting into. I have a Daiwa Tanacom 750 power assist reel on a 8ft. deep drop rod rated 50-100lbs. 60lb 8-strand braided line and 80lb leader. 8/0 and 10/0 Mustad circle hooks completes the outfit. I'll get the lead on the party boat as they usually use 2-3lb weights. I have rigs made with glow squids (chartruese) and was wondering if an additional light will be needed on the rig? I think I'm good to go as this is a bucket list trip and my first time tilefishng. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Depths between 400-800ft. in the Hudson Canyon.

A small Lindren Pitman strobe is ideal. Whole squid and fresh cut strips.Good luck.

I’ve been thinking about getting one of those diawa 1000 for kite fishing and deep dropping is it fairly easy to switch from one setup to another? Would appreciate your opinion on the reel.

Antonio I love mine it probably isn't best for deep deep droping but heck with it I love it and second yes you can cut off your rig and tie one sailfish kite rig with 3 or 400 feet of line and wind on then when done you have to take it off wind on a Cuban yo yo and tape end I also hard wired mine to batteries with a twenty amp fuse but it has a over heat shut down I paired with a Okiaya swivel tip roller guides 80lb to 100lb with diawa j8 braide 85 lb test has diameter of 30 lb mono good no great starter combo hope this helps if any questions hit me up jt

i hope you can help me out. I do all my fishing in Jupiter. I have 9, 6500 penn spinner reels. I am putting new line on all the reels. What type of line, brand, and pound test should I put on each one? I also struggle deciding what to put on each reel. If you can be specific that would be great!

Hi Nick, lets start here. What species are you targeting? Depth? Venue? etc. - Capt Mike

Florida Sport Fishing I plan on fishing in several places. Bottom for mutton snapper from 70-200, reef fishing for yellow tail. As well as going offshore and targeting dolphin and black fin tuna. Also drifting along the ledge for sailfish and kingfish.

Nick, if I read correctly, you have nine spinning reels to fill, so don't fill them all with same. Load 2 with 16 lb. mono,, 2 with 20 lb mono, 2 with 20 braid with 30 lb mono topshot, and 2 with 30 lb braid and 50 lb. mono topshot and 1 with 50 lb braid and 80 lb. mono topshot. Use different color lines so you know whats what or label reels with small sticker. You'll be ready for everything! - Capt Mike

Is it just me or do these guys really not catch that much fish? Half a million dollars in gear and 20 lbs of fish doesn't equal impressive in my mind...

Hi and thank you for watching. When its all said and done, we're limited to just over 20 minutes of footage per episode. My goal is not to display fish after fish after fish. Ive watched that too many times for too many years. My primary focus is education and to provide valuable information. Of course there are fish catches mixed in, but Florida Sport Fishing TV is about much more than that. Additionally, we're pretty conservation minded. Rarely will I freeze fish so we usually only harvest what we can eat/utilize fresh. Finally, blackberry rosefish are relatively small, averaging just a couple of pounds. Nothing I can do about that, and a the couple of golden tilefish mixed in certainly didn't hurt. While I wish they were 50 pounds each, just wasn't the case on this particular day of filming. - Capt Mike
