- What shouldn't you throw in a toilet? 🚽 Plumbers discover plastic bottles, bricks, and even clothes there. Of course, you and I won’t try to flush down such things down the toilet. But who would have thought that even the most harmless things like dental floss or toilet paper can end up clogging a pipe?
The information on the pack saying that toilet paper is safe to flush down the toilet is, most of the time, just a marketing ploy. In fact, such paper takes several hours to dissolve, which is more than enough time to form a clog.
There is a simple way to find out if toilet paper will dissolve. Put pieces of toilet paper into a glass of cold water. If you still see big pieces 5-10 minutes later, it means that you can’t throw this toilet paper into the toilet. But if the pieces are almost impossible to notice, it means that you can believe the manufacturer.

SUMMARY:
- In different countries, people have different attitudes toward the problem of toilet paper disposal. Traveler Matt Kitson created an entire website where he tells you about the countries where you shouldn’t do this.
- Dental floss may seem harmless when it comes to dumping it down the toilet. However, it is made of fibrous material, which is why it can pile up inside pipes and form clogs.
- Chewing gum doesn’t dissolve in water, and it can also stick to pipes and form a clog. This is why you should never get rid of gum this way.
- In Canada, the authorities have asked citizens not to throw live fish down the toilet because when they eventually reach a pond, they kill the local fish.
- A regular Band-Aid that covers your battle wounds so well is made of a lot of different things: fats, wax, rubber, and other ingredients. Such a “cocktail” obviously doesn’t dissolve in water and can clog the pipes in your house.
- Сontact lenses are made of polymers that don’t decompose for many years. Of course, a tiny lens probably won’t block a pipe, but it will definitely harm the environment.
- Experts don’t recommend throwing away cat litter. After a few hours, the litter will solidify and get stuck somewhere in the pipe.
- Chlorine-based detergents are very aggressive, so aggressive that they can damage the pipes if you use them too often.
- Clay-based face masks should not be washed down the toilet. The small particles will eventually pile up on the inside of the pipes and create a huge clog.
- Despite the fact that tea leaves seem small and completely harmless, they’re actually not. Over time, tea leaves pile up inside the pipes and form clogs that are very hard to remove.
- Even the smallest pieces of plastic bags can be dangerous: they form clogs, and, of course, they are really dangerous to the environment.

Some years ago I visited a water purification plant. They told that largest item ever found from their sewer water filter system was a 6,6 foot (2 meters) long steel bed. I however doubt was it flush down the toilet..

Along with all the things in the list, let's not forget to remind our sisters and girls and women not to flush down any sanitary pads or napkins or any material down the toilet which may clog up the pipes. Many of the times I have heard People talking around our area many pipes been cleared of blocks which include these products also. I know being a man should write about this or not but I have seen many awareness sessions held in our city regarding this kind of General information so thought to share with you all in context of the video

Daughter of DaVida Apa would like to say: once when I was in second grade (our bathrooms were in the classroom btw) the boys bathroom flooded and we had to go to a diff room XD we had to stay on the rug and the custodian had to come clean it up. The toilet water got on the rug, too. We had to get a new rug and before we did we had to sit on carpet squares (carpet squares are basically mini carpets)

My mother used to flush thick mid-20th century sanitary napkins down the toilet after tearing them to pieces and cutting up the gauze wrapping that held them together and attached them to tabs on an elastic band worn around the hips back then. I was sometimes paid to tear, cut and flush and I worried about it all going down, but it did. Never stopped up the plumbing. 😏
