- Once again, I’m alive, been a while since I did this kinda video. With the new Fire Emblem game out, I wanted to do so once more, since these are the main videos people know me for nowadays.
For this series I skipped one of the Alear forms to avoid showing the same, or similar convo twice. Due to the fact the Bond Supports seem to be the same for both Byleths, I’m not going to film fem Byleth.
The Emblems talk to everyone, with very brief conversations for the most part. There are some gems in the rough, but overall these are fairly meh talks.

I was always so confused why the students got so attached to Byleth in his own game because of how emotionless he was. But Engage definitely gave him some nice characterization that explains it. He’s canonically a good listener, patient, smooth, cooks, loves fishing, and very compassionate and aware of other people’s feelings
Can definitely see now why Byleth had such a strong impact on the Officer’s Academy
Three Houses kind of did this experimental thing with the silent-protagonist approach, in that the player wasn't supposed to realize immediately that Byleth was a very blank-faced and quiet character *in-universe.* It was meant to obscure the fact that there was something wrong with him. You don't even find out that his heart doesn't beat until it shows up as a dialogue option in this or that scene later, and at that point you're supposed to think he was kidding.
It's not handled perfectly, but I get what they were going for. Part of why Edelgard initially believes she and Byleth to be similar is because she mistakes his stoicism for a mask and relates to that, for example. But Byleth does gain some helpful additional context from his Three Hopes and Engage portrayals, for sure.

@The One True Nobody I personally love what they did with the silent protagonist! It is like what you already explained, but once I figured out there was a reason why Byleth had such a hard time expressing themselves in universe, it made me more curious as to what Byleth truly was like. It felt like there were 3 people in control of Byleth; Sothis, the player, and Byleth themselves, and the few moments Byleth acted without the player's guidance were the moments they were truly in control (like the cutscene where Byleth tries to save their dad from dying, and is able to cry because the determination to save their dad made Byleth break free and completely take control, and they are able to experience their emotions fully. My interpretation was that Byleth's emotions were significantly dampened because of how Sothis was also in their body, but the emotions were still there, but the presence of Sothis made it hard to express them. When I saw Byleth's heart beat at the end of the Crimson flower route, I thought that was so cool. I think that Crimson flower is one of the best routes for Byleth specifically (though not for the whole of Fodlan, I personally think Golden deer is the best for everyone overall) because Byleth would finally have full access to the emotions they were never able to fully feel. But that was just my interpretation. I personally thought Byleth as a character was really cool. So it's fun seeing more of what they're actually like in these new cutscenes.

There's an easier way to do it actually. The spot where you find the item is where the owner was standing the previous month.
I can see why the other characters felt so comfortable with him in Three Houses.
It's nice to know that Byleth is "professor" to everyone even beyond Fodlan lol.
But in three hopes never a professor but instead still a mercenary aka the ashen demon

It's not in FE, but definitely got a laugh out of me, I can't count the amount of times I'd been caught in an up smash, up tilt or up air by Byleth in smash, so it's retroactively nice to think that the character was just having fun with it.

Gotta say, even though these conversations are pretty short, it's kinda cool how they're finally giving Byleth personality. It actually makes me wish that Byleth was a fully voiced character in Three Houses. Also, now we know that canonically he has taught classes while wearing the dancer outfit. (8:17) Now that's an important lore detail right there. XD

I actually agree with alot of the stuff he says.
Byleth is one of the only characters I believe I would like in real life. That's quite rare for fictional characters as most of them lean too far into their quirk or trauma or whatever.
Byleth has a pretty balanced personality which is something that I strive to achieve within myself.
It was one thing hearing him speak in Heroes, but actually seeing his characterization and personality in a mainline game makes me realize all over again why so many people were drawn to him in Three Houses. He's just such a smooth fella, very down-to-earth and cool-headed, but not in a detached way, more like in a calm and caring kinda way, fatherly almost.
Like, is there any wonder this guy managed to charm so many ladies' hearts in Garreg Mach?
(Also, like how people still refer to him as "professor" here. And Alear wanting to feel like one his students is adorable; and also makes me wonder how it would've been like had Alear been a House Leader in 3H. What would've his/her house been called? And who would've been in it?).

Across 3 whole games with full voice acting, Leonie is still the only character to have at least attempted to say Byleth's real name.

I haven’t played Three Hopes yet, but it seems like his voice is deeper than in Three Houses. Also more commanding. I wonder if it’s because he got actual characterization to use (I’m gonna assume the voice actors for mime characters are told to be as unemotional as possible), or if it was to differentiate his voice from Marth’s (I think his performance in Three Houses sounds pretty similar to several of Yuri Lowenthal’s characters).
Listening to more of these supports, it looks Zach does more of a professor act while in Three Houses, he acted like the other students, kind of like a green horn, with no teacherly air.
Without spoilers, a big reason why Byleth sounds deeper is due to difference circumstances. Plus in Three Houses the only time you hear them is battle quotes while Three Hopes they have actual conversations
Even Zach was happy to voice Byleth again since he didn't speak too much in his own games

Change in the script from JPN to ENG with Goldmary A-rank! After she mentioned how her hometown is famous for their hot springs. Byleth responded with how he and his students would wash off their sweat from training together. Goldmary assumed that Byleth was talking about being naked with his students. She asked if that would be a problem if she was his student and he saw her naked. Byleth responded by saying that they wore special clothes when they're in the sauna.
Sounds like she was trying to get a flustered reaction out of him.

@@kevingame3198 Three Hopes wasn’t made by Nintendo, so he wasn’t canonical for the Fire Emblem franchise. Three Hopes is an alternate timeline of the Three Houses game 2 years after pre-time skip rather than 5 years later after the time skip.

I'll admit, to this day I'm still a bit peeved that out of the fighter pack 1 in ultimate, they ended with byleth, but unlike other close minded butthurts, I wasn't upset because he was just another fire emblem character, rather just the fact that they ruined the flow of ending off with a first party character than a third one. All that being said, looking at their continuation with three hopes and in this game, makes me grateful they made it in, because I believe now more than ever in both heart AND mind that they are truly among the best of the best. Not just in the fire emblem series, but in video games as a whole.

Bylad being fully voiced in 3 Hopes and Engage really makes his character traits actually shine and I'm glad more people can actually like them because of that! I'm someone really loves him despite the *many* flaws in the Byleths writing and I felt like I was grasping for straws when looking for things to objectively like about them, but here he's exactly how I'd imagined him when playing 3Hs. I felt like if the Byleths were fully voiced in 3 Houses, people would of definitely like them a lot more.
(also I will never not be salty about a majority of people liking Bylass over Bylad when I find him personally better in literally every conceivable way)

Finally, someone calls him Byleth. I know Intelligent Systems made Byleth, Shez, and Alear without spoken names to give us an Avatar like Kris, Robin, and Corrin, but I feel detached from the world if they aren't referring to my player character by name. Plus Byleth is a cool name. I've always really liked Byleth despite the lack of emotion. He's actually very kind, patient, and listens patiently and we don't see it too much. Even in Three Hopes we don't get to know him too much more.

Yes, but you need to unlock Byleth first in order to see it. If you get the House leaders before him you don't get to see it.

While in Engage they're more so from different worlds with rarely to no connection on Elyos and they aren't even empowered by how much people know of them and their deeds(man omniverses are all the rage right now)

@Fermín2004 still I find fell xenologue to be endgame content that should have been included in the base game and it's pretty egregious locking endgame content behind a dlc paywall is not acceptable its like locking valkyrie bosses from God of war behind a paywall And you have to pay 25 to $50 for a DLC. Thank god for sony santa monica giving us the full package. We'll nintendo and intelligent systems didn't not take cue from sony santa monica or from software playbook. Some games do provide endgame content Whether it's single player or online games with a story do provide endgame content but fell xenologue is baffling and its locked behind a paywall I would rather get horizon burning shores over fell xenologue its much more cheaper

I would have Preferred female byleth but shez killed her in three hopes. I think lummera took this byleth from another reality kinda like fortnite pulling variants from their universes

I kinda wish we got Female Byleth instead. I mostly used her for my multiple Three Houses playthroughs
They used Female Corrin so Male Byleth balances that out. Besides, I find his voice more mesmerizing.
