I really really adore this calmer rendition of Spencer's theme. It's so pleasant to listen to but it still captures his essence so well. Reminds me of something from a 1960's British Pathe video and I love it.
Narrator: A huge engine rocketed by. Gordon: “Steaming pistons! Who's that?” Narrator: Gordon soon found out. When he arrived at the shed, the huge engine was humming quietly. Spencer: (Humming) Gordon: “Who are you?” James: “This is Spencer. He's the fastest engine in the world.” Spencer: (Hums a little more) Gordon: “Huh!” Narrator: But secretly Gordon was impressed. Spencer: “I'm the Duke and Duchess' private engine. I take them everywhere.”
Amazing for an engine carrying royalty, especially the Queen! the musical flute and cello relationship told a story of Spencer and Gordon's conflict and friendship!
Oh the irony in that fact, given that Spencer’s an LNER A4 And The Coronation Scot was one of the trains of the LNER’s rival on both the West Coast and Midland Main Lines, the LMS.
Love the 'upper class', kinda futuristic sound to it. The array of instruments is fantastic! I wonder if this would be Gordon had not Edward (maybe even Henry) been around.
Also hey if it takes 2 weeks, cool! Take your time as well! I do love when it is just the theme, or in this case an extended; or even original like BoCo's theme
That was brilliant!! So elegant, and yet I'm so glad to see you not afraid to do your own thing with this little snippet. It's honestly astounding! Also, I bet those Castanets were fun! (They look fun) Love you!!!
Ooh, this was nice! Very gilded and elegant, perfectly suited to a sleek private engine like Spencer. I especially like the buildup at the beginning, and the extended part you added in the middle. The percussion in this cover (vibraphone & cymbals) is really great, adds some extra flare to it. Can't wait to see Harold in two weeks!
Amazing work dude I will say, since you made Spencer’s theme more chill. I like thinking this is a theme that goes hand in hand with an older and wiser Spencer that takes rail tours. Of course not at his old pace, but a steady one nonetheless
My second time commenting on this, but wow, needed to say again how lovely this arrangement is! Love the melody and range this has, and the way it builds and soars toward the end is just divine. If this were on a record it would honest to goodness be worn out by now. Fantastic work!
I heard his cover of Spencers theme when it was first uploaded without ever hearing it originally and hell in love with it. Just heard the original and still like this best, it just has a warmth and elegance the orignal doesn't quite have.
Exactly! I make stylistic decisions when I arrange a cover. If I was going to copy the original... there would be no point to cover it since ppl could listen to the original 😂
I dare say when Mike & Junior composed Spencer's theme take some inspiration from Coronation Scot! ua-cam.com/video/CT7kbyVF-qE/v-deo.html A Light Orchestral piece was commissioned by the London Midland & Scottish Railway Company in 1938 for a film reel to advertise their new service, "Coronation Scot". The premise of the service was a speedy, quick, luxurious trip for passengers traveling from London to Edinburgh. It was a 400-mile journey by rail and generally took 6 hours. There was fine dining, telephones, radios, typewriters, books, restrooms, and air-conditioning. It was named in honor of King George & Queen Elizabeth's coronation the same year. The music does sound of grandeur and opulence. Scottish Lords actually had quite favorable running rights of engines and trains right up until the nationalization of the railways in 1948. Though, I'm unsure if that was the same in England. I look forward to your composition of Harold's theme next!
Never heard Spencers theme before but it's so posh and elegant, absolutely love it and incredible work as always! Particularly enjoyed this one. Also, I THINK the word you're searching for the bass flute sound is "lush". 😉
Sleek Shiny Stylistic Smooth Sophisticated Skilled Superb Glow To This Art Masterpiece! Duke And Dutchess Would Be Blessed To Hear The Shimmering Serene Music Of Luke Philharmonic Pickman. Bravo Luke.
Now that was really good! Spencer’s theme has definitely been one of your best so far. Plus, it’s got like a 1950’s feel, which captures the luxury of being on a fast, private engine, even though Spencer can be a jerk, but you did a phenomenal job man! Plus, I’m always a big fan of the Gordon & Spencer rivalry any day.
@@InstrumentManiac One thing to mention as well regarding Spencer, if you ever visit England, I highly recommend visiting the National Railway Museum in York, where they have the best engines in Britain that most of the Thomas characters are based off of, including Spencer’s basis, the Mallard.

Love the castanets. They really add something special to this piece.
A piece of light-music like Spencers theme fits so well in Thomas. It sounds like music from a newsreel.
It totally does! A really great piece for Mike and Junior to end on
POV: it's the 1940s and you are in the ✨️future✨️
This was one of Mike & Junior's last compositions before they left after almost 20 years.
And really a great one to send off with!
Your rendition of Spencer's theme can be described similarly to Spencer himself: Exquisite and refined.

Saving this to the playlist.

"Run out of water?" He teased.
"YES!" snapped Spencer, "I m-must have a leasky tank!"
Perhaps, replied Gordon smiling. But we’d better hurry. Everyone is waiting.
I like how the cello is the melody instead of the violin or flute. It sounds really really good

Amazing for an engine carrying royalty, especially the Queen! the musical flute and cello relationship told a story of Spencer and Gordon's conflict and friendship!
Fun fact for those who don't know that Spencer's theme is base on "The Coronation Scot" by Vivian Ellis.
