Excellent video, both production and content. A joy to spend time with.
Your "Final Thoughts" segment made so much sense. It's important to see the whole forest, not just a couple of trees.
For now, I have fashioned my own cheap isolation tweaks. I do believe in their performance improvements and am considering investing in these but ... They are expensive.

An interesting realistic perspective, I am retired & have an all valve system driving Quad 57's sitting on Rupert stands, it had/has high resolution of fine detail a friend (deceased) used me amongst others for 25 years to test his own hand made cartridges & accessories. Using Stack Audio 30 day money back offer I bought Auva 50's they were so good within days I got Auva 70's shortly after Auva100's the sounds from my Quad 57's have raised to another level with bass better than any stacked Quads I have heard because it is layered not just one note bass the mids & treble have stunning detail without harshness.everything moree relaxed If you can also try Auva EQ's under amps & DAC & LPSU as you point out it would have cost many thousands to reach this level otherwise

    Power amp - no difference
Pre amp and DAC - small but nice upgrade, especially in the bass
Speakers - pretty huge difference and possibly the best upgrade for the money

For half a year or a bit longer, there have been Auva 50's under my heavily modified AudioPhysics. Because these pucks are not cheap, I started with the 50's and also because import from the UK was expensive at that time (import is now different). Was there an audible difference? Yes, definitely. And now I can reach under the base of the speakers with the vacuum cleaner. That was not possible before. With the Auvas it looks a lot better too ! When everything is cleaned, my wife is out of the house for a course and I open a top wine and have had 2 large glasses within half an hour, the AudioPhysics with Auvas sounds even more heavenly.

I'm willing to believe they improve sound, but they're more than I'm prepared to spend, having tried a number of products over the years, albeit not these. For my stand mount speakers I now use the approx. £5 for eight gel "Pro" speaker isolators bought on ebay.
They tighten up the sound and have the great advantage that they're small and stick very well to the bottom of my speakers without any kind of adhesive, but are easily removed if required. So well that I can use them in my secondary nearfield system with very short (1" high) tilt-able stands with my speakers pointing down c.10 degrees. Also, I place tweeters at the bottom. - this usefully lowers the sound image for me. They're robust, not at all squishy, and durable. For a fiver, they're very cheap to try. Don't think you'd be disappointed. IMHO, they're definitely an improvement on simply plopping speakers directly on top of stands.

Very good review and very good points about the diminuishing returns and prices of upgrades. I for one have a personal rule of always upgrading 2 tiers up so that's a worthy improvement. Meaning II'm at a point of looking at 5k a component as "the last upgrade possible" as I also don't have a room where more than that can be apreciated for the extra they might give. That's why I found it justified to invest in Stack Audio products and my only regret is not having done so earlier. I had Gaia feet some time ago but this is way better. I think my biggest shock was their eletronics EQ feet, no review or previouse experience prepared me for such a major impact on sound quality.

I’m often amused by the Pavlovian response of the “if you can’t measure it, it can’t exist “brigade. Whether it’s equipment supports, cables and interconnects, fuses or even more esoteric tweaks, it’s always dismissed out of hand. You have clearly explained what you have heard, but that’s not good enough for them.
My experience with Stack Audio products confirms your description. I had started off with the addition of their EQs to the CD transport, and the results have convinced me to install them under the rest of the equipment. I have also placed the 70s under my loudspeakers and the 50s under my subwoofers.
Again, the results were obvious, particularly if you allow for the particles to settle in.
All I can say, trust your ears and if you derive more enjoyment from the increased musicality of your system, this is all that matters.

As an economical approach to isolation may I suggest putting a paving slab under your stands? You will alter the height by about 2.5 cm but if that bothers you can adjust for it by simply sitting a little straighter in your listening position.

    • @brendanmccarthy4218
      @brendanmccarthy4218 3 місяці тому

Oh dear. A paving slab will of course have a completely deteriorating result in the sound. Many sources of scientific research will show that.

I think that it is a matter of test. My Klipsch the Fives sound better with a smaller isoacoustic stands, while the Elac UBR62 definitely need big stands. But I have a better example - I was auditioning a system of Arcam SA20 with PMC Prodigy 5 - the Prodigy(s) have own spikes AND these system sounded amazing to me - huge, balanced, energetic and natural. And the sales person installed a certain type of acoustic dampers (similar to what you test) just below the spikes of the tower speakers - he said that will make it even better. Well, for me that was exactly the opposite - the effect was negative, according to me. Yes, the instruments and the vocals got slightly better defined and contoured (I think because the dampers eliminated even more the vibrations from the floor and the floor reflections) BUT the soundstage got absolutely funny - I started hearing the piano in the sky, the drums got behind me and the vocals were already not a person standing there but a ball that was bouncing forth and back. So, trial and test is the solution for what is best for our ears..

I actually did make my own DIY feet of a different kind. They are from three pieces of aluminium and two layers of ball barings. It's more difficult than I thought to find a place to do small batches of machining and do it well. The first batch was ruined due to low precision work. The second one produced good 12 feet but cost at that point came very close to commercial solutions of that kind. They don't work nearly as well as AUVA but it was a learning moment. Things are more complicated once you actually try to do them than while you think about them. There are always unplanned costs and problems.

It's far from fraud and very easily tested: Put your phone with a vibration detecting app on top of your speaker, stamp your foot on the floor and look at the reading. Now put an isolation or damping device under the speaker and do the same thing. It's definitely altering the interaction between speaker and floor. Whether you like the alteration is another matter.

    @iiWiReviews
In the video description you state that, "This is my impression." And that's really where this "review" ends.
All of these flowery subjective words that you have used to describe the "differences" in what you THINK you heard (remember these are your "impressions") are 100% related to the FREQUENCY RESPONSE (which include resonances) of the system At Your Listening Position, and that also includes any supposed differences in the imaging and soundstage as well, which rely completely on the Amplitude response of the system matching as closely as possible between the Left & Right speakers...that's it!
SO, all it would take to SUBSTANTIATE these supposed differences that you claim you "heard" is a simple in-room measurement of the Amplitude Response (frequency response) of the system using a $100 calibrated USB measurement microphone (i.e. miniDSP UMIK-1) placed on a $40 microphone stand that isn't moved or changed between measurements combined with the FREE Room EQ Wizard (REW) software, which will allow you to take those measurements and demonstrate those supposed REAL WORLD changes.
But curiously, we never see any such measurements by the manufacturers of these products, OR from 99% of the "reviewers" of said products, LOL.
IMO, considering the THOUSANDS of Dollars ALL OF US have invested in our HiFi setups, and providing that you already own a basic laptop PC, investing just $140 in a system that will allow you to perform objective measurements is 100% worthwhile, especially if you are a "reviewer".
Even on Stack Audio's "Technology" page of their website, they describe "how" their "technology" works, BUT NEVER provide ANY simple Objective Data to back up their claims! ...
For instance, all it would take in order to demonstrate that these products actually do what they say in regards to converting vibrational energy to low-level heat in order to "isolate" one object from another is to attach simple, inexpensive accelerometers to both the top and bottom sections of these "isolation feet" and provide the measurements that show the differences between them!
This is incredibly SIMPLE to do, yet NO such measurements or demonstrations are provided. Hmmm??? I bet if they did, far fewer people would purchase these way overpriced products that literally do little, if anything, to actually "isolate" in any MEANINGFUL way.
FFS, HOW MANY YEARS will it take thick-skulled HiFi enthusiasts and "audiophiles" to finally ACCEPT that NONE OF US can actually rely on our Ears & Brain to Accurately & Reliably discern REAL Audible Differences in these types of SIGHTED Listening Tests?!?!?!
^This has been proven Beyond All Doubt MANY years ago in multiple tests by multiple accredited researchers and institutions!
IF you want to educate yourself and read just ONE short article that will take just 5 minutes of your time, I URGE EVERYONE to search for and read Sean Olive's short blog article titled, "Audio Musings by Sean Olive: The Dishonesty of Sighted Listening Tests". (seanolive blogspot 2009 04)
IME, $463 will go MUCH, MUCH FURTHER in actually IMPROVING the response and enjoyment of your audio system if you implement proper ACOUSTICAL ROOM TREATMENTS to help mitigate the Acoustical Issues in your listening room, especially if you can utilize DIY techniques and acoustic treatment solutions!
I generally enjoy the product reviews on this channel, but my finger is this >|< close to hitting that UNSUBSCRIBE button! :(

Wow so much to say... If you are that frustrated and bothered ...Why don't you test and review yourself friend,???..and then setup your own YT channel and report your objective or subjective findings...instead of judging others for their personal review and opinions ...actually trying out all these different things!?

The response to this comment is shorter less abrasive and straightforward. A persons ability to hear and perceive is a complex process. I am a 64 year old professional orchestral musician. When I use the Auva 70s under my Audio Note speakers the differences in tonal accuracy, leading to a greater emotional connection is starkly evident.
I too have more than a passing interest in the science and psychology of musical perception. My advice in short, train those ears and trust those ears.

I HAVE performed MANY of my own measurements, testing, recordings, and LISTENING for over 30 years as a musician, music lover, and HiFi enthusiast.
For most of that time I've also designed, built, and tested my own loudspeaker systems with both passive and active/DSP crossover filter networks for my high end home, home recording studio, and car audio systems.
To be quite frank, I already own and run a business and have a very busy family life that occupies all of my time, and I have no desire nor the extra time to dedicate to starting and maintaining a UA-cam channel.
If one chooses, they can educate themselves with the plethora of AES and other professional studies and publicly available literature that are already widely available.
A few such sources and references are Dr. Floyd Toole's latest edition of, "Sound Reproduction: The Acoustics and Psychoacoustics of Loudspeakers and Rooms", and the latest edition of Vance Dickason's "The Loudspeaker Design Cookbook".
My only ongoing "frustration" is that gullible people continue to be persuaded into buying and using these types overtly expensive products that are based on fallible or questionable subjective reviews with absolutely no metrics or data to substantiate their claims.
Of course, everyone is free to choose how and what to spend their money on, and to place their own valuation of each "component" in their system.
But IME, there are much more important details that need to be addressed when someone is seeking to make true audible improvements to a HiFi system.
As a musician of over 30 years (also having performed in symphony orchestras), I HAVE trained my ears and I must TRUST them on a nearly daily basis.
HOWEVER, this does NOT mean that you or I ALWAYS make the correct judgement or conclusions regarding what we "hear", or think we are hearing.
Our "auditory memory" has proven to be extremely poor and short-lived. In studies, our best chance to actually discern any real world differences between any two or more sound sources requires that:
      1. They ALL be PRECISELY LEVEL-MATCHED.
      2. We must only compare a very short section of the music or audio.
      3. We must be able to instantaneously switch between the sources with no pauses or interruptions and the sources must be played in random order, preferably with an randomized "X" source which may or may not be the same.
      4. We must NOT know WHICH SOURCE or Product is being played at any given time.
      5. Our conclusions must be the same for at least 9 out of 10 repeated instances, otherwise just 1, 2, or 3 similar results can only be attributed to "chance".
In the "listening impressions" noted in this UA-cam "review", NONE of these conditions were present or criteria were met. So there's that.
In reality, we are much more the same in regards to our hearing capabilities and "complexities" and what we PREFER rather than being different from each other, provided we don't have any inherent hearing damage or disabilities.
IF you were to read the actual studies and whitepapers regarding how our auditory system works, you will learn that "a person's ability to hear and perceive" differences is not as complex or DIFFERENT as you may think.
This is because our hearing has evolved over millennia for the primary purpose of survival in our real and dangerous world.
But our "impressions" are still clouded by Expectation and Confirmation Biases.
Read the actual study that I referred to earlier, as well as the associated studies and tests.
Even some of the top professionals in "HiFi" and very experienced or "trained" listeners reported significantly different results and made much different evaluations of the SAME exact products simply based on Sighted vs. Unsighted (completely blind) listening test evaluations.
And the wide variety of experience among the groups of listeners who participated in these studies generally ALL preferred the same overall "sound & tonal characteristics", much more so than being widely different from each other, no matter their level of "expertise".
      Again, search for and read:

Wow! And what difference did your testing show?
