  • I have a prop crysknife from the movie Dune, and I wanted to see if I could make one out of foam. I'm going to show you how to do foam sculpting with a rotary tool and sanding bits. I made this on my live stream Twitch.tv/eviltedsmith.
Dune is one of my favorite sifi movies, I love the design of the costumes and props form that movie.

Thanks for the show, the prop turned out awesome! Can't wait for the day I can afford to make my own props. You are a great role model for these things, keep up the great work!

The color of the foam crysknife is actually more accurate to the book. These knives are supposed to almost glow milky white. Great job!

I had to do a double-take when I saw the title of this video. Curse my limited budget, because I REALLY want to buy a bunch of patterns from your store, Ted! Now I see why you're called "Evil"!

I planning to make a foam Minecraft costume. I’m a beginner of course. My question is, I plan to use big parts that will flex when walking. Can I still paint the foam, or will the paint crack or mess up? Please help with friendly advise. Thanks

I’m not a person who repeat watches films much but Dune most be my 2nd or 3rd watched film ever. The books are also amazing, I got Dune for Christmas as a teenager and it was the fastest I’ve ever read a book and then a series.
I’m going to have to try this at some point, I’ll be screen capturing the video to try get the scale and shape. Obviously I’d love a cast of the real knife but this will be a good 2nd choice.
    The spice must flow.

could it be possible to make the knife by the method used when dealing with worbla, but instead made if out of 2mm foam, then make a simple blade and handle and wrap the design 2mm foam around that? use the soldering iron turned off to indent the 2mm foam to make the holes?...aaaand as always i learned something i actually will use, the thingy with the aluminum foil to make a pattern, i need to make a handle for a blade, and that handle is covered in leather so i need a foam leather piece...:D thanks for the awesome work you do and showing us how to do it

I got a handle with a trigger that goes on top of rattle cans for £5. Loads better control with it and well worth it if you don’t have one
