1967 and 1986 were India's victories regardless of skirmish or not. India should talk about this more often. "Watershed 1967 India's forgotten victory over China" 🇮🇳💪⚔️👍.

Excellent 👍 Yes , the story of General Sagath Singh has to be saluted and celebrated, now and always for his bravery and outstanding leadership! 👏

Excellent interview highlighting what ought to have been a cherished part of our history. Once again, India's interests are secured by far sighted individuals like Gen Sagat Singh; who unfortunately are consigned to obscurity by our nation. Kudos to Probal Dasgupta for writing about it. Best wishes with the book sales. And thanks to Stratnewsglobal for providing a platform; an opportunity that would never be available with the nation-hating mainstream media!

As a child in school in 1967 I still remember a front page newspaper photograph of Indian soldier looking thru' binoculars, of Chinese soldiers rebuilding their destroyed posts.

@Subhodip Banerjee Not much to give actually. I was in class 7 and there were reports of Chinese attacks. I only remember the front page ,middle section, caption of something like India gives China a bloody nose. The paper was The Statesman. There was a photograph of an Indian soldier ( officer) not wearing an helmet but a wollen head cover, with his foot on a rock, leaning forward and looking up to a hill thru' his binoculars. The caption read something like " An Indian Jawan watches as Chinese soldiers rebuild their post".
The more exciting part was the 1962 war when we would climb on the school windows to wave trucks after trucks of our soldiers passing thru' our town ( Hazaribagh) going to the border. This was a 24 hr affair. During the day frightened public would line up on both sides to cheer them up, and Jawans who usually stood up on the front seat of the army truck with his Machine gun in position smiling and waving back reassuring us that we were in safe hands.
Later I learnt that my mother and two of my elder cousin sisters ( about 15yrs of age) had worked day and night to knit heavy wollen sweaters ( 1 each) to be sent to the war front as our soldiers were short of winter clothing. This was after a call from the Govt for help from the public. THe whole country had rallied without a word.

General Sagat Singh was a military general Par excellence. What is not known is that he was also a Yogi who meditated deeply every day. He did his job admirably well but was not much interested in public relations with the higher command structure. A Yogi does his job well but is not enamored by the fame and other benefits that accrue from his deeds. It must be noted that the army chief in those days was a political appointee and the government of those days was more interested in appointing people at the top level who will turn a blind eye to their kickbacks and commissions from the purchase of arms and ammunition. Sagat Singh being an honest man was therefore never acceptable. After retirement General Sagat Singh became a disciple of a Yogi in Rishikesh and spent the last period of his life attaining his spiritual goal.

Admiral Chester Nimitz's victory at Midway gave a psychological upsurge for the Americans and eventually paved way for his being elevated as a five star Admiral. That is the US and that is why it is always prominent and predominant in the World polity. In the case of Lt. Gen Sagat Singh it appears that he has been willfully ignored which is typical Indian style of promoting only back biters and sycophants. That is why US always shine and India only glitters.

Nehru....the culprit for 1962 debacle. Let's call spade a spade. In any other country nehru would have been asked not only to resign but would have been thoroughly investigated through an enquiry commission. But not in India. Names Nehru and Gandhi are too holy to be blamed for anything. Kashmir was another failing of Nehru. In his 17 years as PM this man single handedly caused great damage to national interest.

@@ravi28948 Was Nehru a democrat as we are made to believe? He had his own Utopian vision of the world . He never listened to saner advice given by Patel , Panth or even Shyama Prasad Mukherjee who was a congressman before breaking up. Those were hard times. In space of little less than two decade of independence, India had to face three major wars and to top it ,we had a famine in 1966-67.In such trying circumstances, who was there to question a leader ,who was London returned and had the patronage of Mahatma Gandhi ( if ever there was a Mahatma).

It was (1962) entirely the fault of Nehru and his policy "PANCHA SEELA" (5 Habits/gunas).
Those days the slogan was " HINDI CHEENI BHAI BHAI "
But soon during '62 war the War news in MALAYALAM captioned
      "HINDI CHEENI-BHOW BHOW" (🐕)

@@valsakumar3673 Yes that is the bitter truth. Bygones are bygones, you can not reverse the blunders and follies of yesteryears. For this, we are paying a heavy price. After all Nehru jee was a democratically elected prime minister unlike Mao.Our forefathers should be held responsible for that.

It seemed to me that the Indian political establishment was taken by complete surprise when the Indians gave the Chinese a bloody nose. That episode seemed to me as a spontaneous military undertaking with no political interference. The same holds true today as well. If the Indian military is able to bypass the weak and selfish Indian political stumbling block, we should be able to recover Kailash Manasarovar, Aksai Chin and Shaksgam valley and liberate Tibet without any trouble.

Sorry to point out that one of the principles of war is - surprise! To say that the Indian Army was caught with its pants down is wrong. The Pakistani’s achieved surprise, but once discovered the Indian Army managed to evict them. Whoever initiates an attack will usually aim for surprise to win.

Its a little puzzling that the author seems hesitant, unsure and frequently fumbles for the appropriate words. There is also a lack of coherence in his thoughts which detracts from what could have otherwise been a thought-provoking and informative interview. The title generates "great expectations" which, sadly, are belied. Click-bait?
