  • Hi, my name is Chris and I'm a Senior Frontend Engineer in New York City, and I hope this video helps to inspire your creativity in thinking about:
    - as a software engineer, is my career at risk?
    - what should I do to prepare?
    - should I study software engineering, if chatGPT can just write code for me?
I hope you enjoy, and please share with a friend!
    Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

I have so many things to say to you about this! I just knocked out a Telegram app in 2 weeks. I used ChatGPT a lot to get through challenges. I think it superpowers everyone so if you're a B programmer, you are now an A programmer, and if you're an A, you're A++. Mostly the hours of being stuck are cut by maybe 50% to 90%. I still get stuck but when I was stuck for 4 hours, sometimes I'm stuck for 4 minutes. On schooling, yes, we can all be liberal arts majors and learn for the sake of learning instead to get jobs and have more leisure time - that was the promise of computers originally and well....we now work 50 hour weeks. Hmmm! And Red Pajama(?) is making Lama - the Facebook LLM - open source, right? So China and everyone is going to get the best LLMs since they will be open source. It requires nuanced and contextual knowledge, yes! And if you have that, it super powers you a lot. ChatGPT is very good at coding. Not so good at math sometimes it's true, but really good at coding - but coding is more like writing (per DHH) than math per se. So much better than Stack Overflow. It picks up my syntax errors very well man. I just found a missing closing bracket today where I couldn't see it, pasted in the code and it found it. I do that 20x per day with ChatGPT. And singularity? Yes, biological human evolution is very slow. AI will evolve very fast. It will be much more intelligent and live forever unlike humans and the thing about computers is that the new computers help us make the new computers etc. Ice nine though. Ice nine. It is a concern. Good to see you! Great video!
