Who works in 3D? What’s your favorite program for 3D graphics?
now sketchup and solidworks
FINALLY, I FOUND A MASTER TEACHER ON SKETCHUP, FOR THE FIRST TIME I HAVE ENJOYED A VIDEO AND THE BEST I HAVE LEARNED WHAT OTHERS TRIED TO TEACH BUT WERE UNSUCCESSFUL IN DOING IT, YOUR EXPLANATIONS, COMMON MISTAKES, AND ALL THE SHORTCUTS WERE SENSATIONAL, AND AM SAYING THIS AS A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER THAT HAS REACHED THE AGE OF 87 YEARS, I WANTED TO LEARN BECAUSE A COUPLE OF YEARS BACK I STARTED BUILDING AN SMALL CARPENTRY SHOP FOR KEEPING MY TIME BUSY , AND NOW WITH THIS I CAN SAY I'M COMPLETELY READY TO TACKLE ANY JOB. I LIVE IN MEXICO AND WAS BORN IN MEXICO, STEVE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND I HAVE SUBSCRIBED TO YOUR POST TO FOLLOW YOU ON YOUR NEXT VIDEOS - THANKS
I learned more from your mistakes and corrections than your perfect moves. Thanks for leaving them in and not editing them out.
Thank you for such an informative video. I would have never guessed how helpful it is to view a real time process INCLUDING the little mistakes and fixes. It is so much more educational than a flawless A to B to C instructional.
I am in love
This is the first SketchUp video I've been able to follow along with and actually create the same image as what's shown. Great job!
That was amazing! I sat through the whole thing and I feel way more confident to finish my project in sketch up now! Thanks for all the helpful tips.
Very helpful! Watched the whole video without skipping a sec!
I've just discovered this program and this was an awesome way to learn how to use it, thank you so much.
So, after three days, I finally finished the drawer, whew. Your instructions were easy to follow, you spoke clearly, and took your time, but what I enjoyed most was your explanation of other options and you made mistakes and showed your audience on how to correct them. This video is by far the best on YT for Sketchup. I found you when I was looking at how to create a simple box using SU. I not only know how to create a box but many other things due to this video. Thank you for posting this wonderful tool. I have already subscribed and will finish this series with you. And yes, I took three days to follow your 1:06:18 second AWESOME Video.
Awesome Reggie, glad you made it to the end!
I actually took a paid udemy course to learn and found this video far better and useful! Could have saved myself some money! One tip (from the course) - try using the arrow UP, RIGHT and LEFT arrow keys to lock into the grids when using push pull, move etc.
Very comprehensive and well done video. Thank you!
simple and easy to understand, thank you
Great video learned a lot subscribed.
thanks a lot man > it's so good explanation > i hope you have a good time
Extraordinary helpful! Thanks so much.
So glad!
Hello there. I'm just starting working with wood. Watching lots of videos. Thanks for have the time to do these 2 videos. I have a question. With version of Sketchup do you have?
Thanks. Learned a lot. Even the correcting of the little goofs along the way were insightful...
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome instructional video, was lost in the sauce before watching this. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video, thank you very much!!!!
Glad it helped!
hi just have build this dresser fowling your video thanks great tutorial
Guh. Less than five minutes in, I've already picked up three tips to work faster. Why didn't I find you two weeks ago??? Thanks for sharing with me (us). Subbed.
Hey, I doubt you're checking comments in this video anymore but I figured I'd try. Can you please tell me how to make overlay drawer fronts? I can't get the midpoint on side rails and the offset tool doesn't make it stick out from the frame. Btw your this vid series was the best I've seen on using sketchup! Thanks
Excellent
Andrew, really appreciated this treasure trove of tips. I've drawn two projects so far, and just realized the hours of math and drawing with pencil and paper to prepare to draw in sketchup was totally unnecessary. Great job!
The notion of components is new to me here, and I see why they are needed for your next video on cut-lists. I'm wondering about more complex joinery though. If you do a half-lap/rabbet, does the cut-list tool just ignore the cutout of the dado?
What about doing something like a box joint or dovetail joint? Would you bother diagraming that here? I'm guessing not, and instead you'd want to have a component for each board with 100% overlap in the space where the joint is for the two boards? How does that work? Any ideas?
I really liked Creo and Inventor when I used them for mechanical stuff.
Do you prefer doing woodworking projects using Sketchup Free/Make using sketches or Sketchup Pro using solid modeling and why?
21:05 my mind was blown. Thank you so much for this video!!
30:48 mind blown again xD
Hah! Glad you like it!
How would you get drawer sizing if you don't want to add the 3/4" rail divider?
Great tutorial. Only thing I struggled with was at 1hr 2 mins. I draw the top on but when i try to move it up it attaches to the rear panel. How do I stop this happening and why is it happening to me and not to you!?
I've watched this several times. I don't understand the purpose of grouping each edge piece on the top and making it a component. What is the reason for grouping each piece?
Great tutorial! Which version of SketchUp are you using in this video (personal, professional, etc.; free, shop, pro, etc.)?
I was on the 'Pro / Pro' combo desktop version on a Mac
What is the URL for the second channel to see the dresser build?
at 27:34 you mentioned that you selected a size for a cross-member that was convenient for the cut list. How did you know that? Did you run the cut list tool, and find that you were eating into an additional sheet, and realize if you shaved a little off one piece you could cut your cost by 1 sheet? I'm curious to see how you knew that this piece should be smaller and also what size to choose.
How are you rotating your view?
Andrew do you have a any information for doing a cabinet that has different size drawers. I am trying to do one that has 4 different sizes.
I'd, create one drawer, duplicate it it, (destroy any components) and then rework the drawer to the new size for each of the drawers. It's the same process, but as each drawer is a different size, you can't create one master 'drawer' component.
@@FollowAndrew Thank you for the info. I will defiantly try that. Are there certain preferences that allow you to make the datos for the drawer bottoms. I am trying to follow your instructions but it does not work for me. As well as when I hide something then try to bring it back it will not come back.
Thank you so much for this video, I'm watching this so I can watch your followup video. BTW, those are rabbets not miters (first two times you said miter), I'm sure you know but while teaching and making a video it's easy to make errors.
Boy is it ever. Working away and talking at the same time is surprisingly difficult.
where can i find the video of the actual build?
Great video thanks a lot
It's on my 2nd channel, link in the video description.
@@FollowAndrew thanks Andrew,
Can you please tell me what is your camera settings?
You are keep saying hold down option and drag and copy and I am just not sure what exactly you mean by that. I am using laptop. No mouse. Just mouse pad and I am trying to follow the the option tool move key and just not getting anywhere
1. Get a mouse. You really need one for this type of work. I use a laptop also, but hook up a mouse JUST for using sketchup.
2. He's using a mac. When he says 'option key' think 'alt key' if you use windows. Also, they shortcut keys for windows are different than mac. For instance to make a component in windows it is just the 'G' key rather than command-shift-G on mac. Pay attention to the shortcuts listed in the menu when you select something. shortcut keys make this WAY faster, as you can see from the way Andrew uses the tool. He's done a great job with explaining this video, and I have learned more in 20 minutes watching him than hours of research over the last few days. I'm very impressed!
So about 2:30 into the video, you indicate we will just zoom in and do not indicate how that is done. I'm looking to learn how to use SketchUp, not watch you use SketchUp. If your intention is to teach, or offer a tutorial, slow down, and be more descriptive about the steps you are taking.
This isn't a 'Intro to Sketchup' tutorial, it's a SketchUp Woodworking Tutorial, as the name implies.
@@FollowAndrew - Any words about joinery for this project? Is the intent to use dowels or to use pocket holes or dados with glue?
@@normanerwin4242 I did pocket holes. Linked in the description is my build video
Bit harsh, if you want a 'beginners tutorial' search just that. I hope you find one that fits your ideas.
sorry mate watched one minute but with that background noise sorry but not for me Kind regards Hans
