- Fire up that 4x12 and plug in this six-string monster for some glorious classic rock tone! The SC-550 II Gotoh AFB comes straight out of the golden age of rock n’ roll, with everything the modern rocker expects. A weight-relieved mahogany body with a gorgeous flamed maple top and a set mahogany neck provide that traditional tonewood recipe known for its attack and sustain. And thanks to the chambering, you don’t have to sacrifice your spine for tone! The 12” radius Pau Ferro fingerboard comes sporting 22 stainless steel frets, making worn frets a thing of the past, while the Gotoh tuners and graphite nut ensure zero tuning issues. Powering the SC-550 II Gotoh AFB are two Tesla Opus-1 Alnico-5 humbuckers, with individual volume and tone controls. Flick the pickup selector to the bridge position and crank out some dirty riffs, or try the neck position with the tone rolled down for that sweet singing solo tone. Or mix both pickups and play around with the controls; a plethora of tones awaits you.

YOUR STYLE. YOUR GEAR.
I got the SC550+EMG a couple years ago in the same finish and is still a favourite of mine
Intro Riff gave me Velvet Revolver vibes. Nice
Slither!! 😂😂
Yeah, good ears!
Nice one!❤
if I wasn't gonna move again soon, I'd be buying this right now. hope they're still available when things settle down again for me
Fingers crossed!
Love it ❤❤
Gotoh 🤘🏽
Nice
Looks incredible. Just ordered mine! So excited. Beautiful top and the combo of tesla, gotoh, and stainless steel frets is amazing! Just as an aside, I would order another if you did a mellow (not super yellow like) honeyburst colour variant. Cheers
The color gradient in the Autumn Flame Burst is very tasteful. Looks much better in real than in the photos 😉 I have one and also had two originals from the US company from the 90s 😅
We need more Telecasters from you , you know
I just did purchase one of this. And I have the older version the one that said slash tribute on the back and made of Mahogany. Hopefully the change to Meranti doesn't affect the tone of the guitar because the one I have is such a really good instrument. Peace.
Did you guys change the design of the horn on the single cut? It looks more gibsonny compared to regular sc 550s and 450s. Like it!
A direct question for Harley Benton: Why have you changed the material of the body and the neck? Before, you built them with mahogany and now the woods you use are meranti.
I got mine yesterday. The QC control date is 18th of october 22. The guitar was released in january this year. So I guess it should be a mahagony body, or am I wrong? Not that I think it would make so much of a difference though.
There are woods import regulation issues with rosewood & mahogany in recent times....and the prices of those woods have gone up.
I have this new SC-550 Gotoh AFB and 2-year old CST-24T with mahogany body and PRS pickups (changed from original Roswell HAF). For me, the new one sounds better. I suspect that the previous "mahogany" was not a real mahogany in fact (sapele, okoume, nyatoh etc.)
I like to believe that the first 'SC 550SL Tribute' guitars were made of mahogany... but i suspect it was meranti all the time, known as 'philipine mahogany' (which isn't mahogany at all) and they have been cheating.
I have a Gibson SG that is just a AAA maple flamed cap, however, the flaming is much much more prominent than this claimed AAAA flame, I find it hard to believe that this is a AAAA flame or even a AAA flame.
The grade It's about the pattern rarity of the flamed maple itself. This one isn't prominent because it's a veneer and not a full maple top.
@@Yengamer Thats not correct, I have a Vintage LP copy with a wonderful flamed maple veneer top, the whole point of veneer is that you can have highly figured wood without having to have it all solid figure, they have just labelled the quality without checking what they are actually putting on the guitar
Can you tell me what the differences are between this one and the SC-Custom II? Im totally torn between those 2 and I just can't decide.
These guitars are now built with a meranti body and neck, so by replacing the mahogany of the guitar in this video with merianti, the tonal quality of the units currently built does not correspond to the classic tonal quality emitted by the guitar in this video Constructed of mahogany. The switch from mahogany to meranti is a big mistake in my opinion, the tone will be less les paul and this model will lose much of its appeal, and it has made me question the purchase of my second sc-550 II. Please I would like someone to clarify if I will get the same tone with the current production meranti as with the old production sc-550 II in mahogany that I already own. Thank you
on Thomann website it is written mahogany.
You'd be better check the website. There's a model that costs 299 here in Europe and is made out from meranti. This model costs 333€ and is made by mahogany with gotoh tuner.
Cheers
Wood has nothing to do with tone in electric guitars, I agree Meranti is a mistake cause is considered a soft wood for necks. My concern is that i think it was meranti all the time, known as 'philipine mahogany' (which isn't mahogany at all) and they have been cheating us.
@@Yengamer In the end I bought 3 of these guitars, exactly the same model that appears in this video and identical to each other, that is, all 3 are the same model and with the same components. I have adjusted all 3 of them the same, and all 3 sound different. The wood of course it influences the sound and makes them sound different from each other even if it is wood of the same type, in this case Meranti, each piece of wood has its own particularities, the hardware, pickups and electronics and wiring are the same in the 3 guitars and there is no room for them to be the culprit of them sounding different, It's The Wood! My test has certified it to me, from now on I will never accept the fact that wood does not affect the sound of electric guitars, better first check and then confirm so as not to fall into demagogy. Even the weight between them varies from 100 to 300 grams and that is due to the wood, it is impossible for it to be due to the paint or some other component. The wood rules the tone and final sound of a both acoustic and electric guitar, to do this you have to stop to feel the sound and listen to it carefully and it is immediately noticeable
@@Yengamer However, I liked all 3 guitars and the Meranti is not causing instabilities in the necks to date, all 3 sound very Les Paul. Highly recommended for my taste
More teles and jazzmasters, please.
Noted!
With the light weight, does the neck dive?
Nope, there is still enough mass there :)
Will the AFB one ever be back in stock? I'm not a fan of the PAF one.
Guitarra bacana 👏👏👏
When can we expect new guitars? The 25th anniversary is not my thing and they been on the website so long as newest product 😟
They should be. They are awesome. I am hoping they bring them out in different colours/finishes
so whats the weight of that?
Cuanto vale ésa guitarra??
May i suggest a duo jet harley benton and i would actually pay a lot for a harley benton thsts a proper jazzmaster.
Uh great idea!
The guitar has great appointments, goto tuners, graphtech nut, Tesla pups, weight relief body, amazing looking flamed maple veneer..so why not do something about the ugly pau ferro fretboard? At least die it a darker color! Thanks for showcasing this very nice guitar!
Guitar sounds good but i dont like color of fretboard. Thomann should use darker woods.
You can oil it to give it a slightly darker look od, use linseed oil to darken ita as it adds depth to the wood or you can Use fretboard dye like montys, or get wood stain and you can go for any shade you want like a nice walnut stain or dark ebony stain, and you can oil finish those stains too.......
I have done this with a white maple neck and stained the whole neck with walnut and sealed with linseed oil to match a walnut body I had made and it looks great...k
@@conordyer2307 naaaah....thomann should go back with palisander...
Is Harley Benton available to talk to though? 🤔
Sure, feel free to drop us an email! community@harleybenton.com
You guys need a Lefty Jaguar like the Kurt Cobain model.
vid 2 of Demanding 7/8-string version of SC (or at least baritone)
i would rather prefer the Pickups Holders in Black... the cream ones stand out a little too much on this great finish. Other than that i can see myself def buying this guitar.
honestly it's a real cheap and easy mod, so consider it
@@RevontuletMusic guess what.. I know that. 🤣 I'm modding my HB Guitars All the time. I just said it would look better with Black ones 😉
Sweet! How much does it weigh? 🤔
Probably 7lbs
Lots of mid range!
Yep :)
The body seems small 🤔
Its not, Bene is just a bit tall :)
Naja, was Gibson nicht macht ne...@@HarleyBentonOfficial
I would have bought long ago but I don't want to pay for air. Chambering is spreading more and more, it is a p.i.t.a. and the guitars get top-heavy.
I prefer massive bodies for it is my firm persuasion, that a massive tone comes from a massive body.
I REALLY WISH you'd do a non-chambered version as well.
(Yes, i go the 450, but the finishes are odd.)
Yea your wrong though, Gibson has been chambering their bodies from the early days it just wasn't advertised as a feature. The total weight of the wood doesn't make a difference to tone....
@@conordyer2307 I know what Gibson is doing. Did I say I want a Gibson? What Gibson does is totally irrelevnt for the guitar I want.
And I don't want to start a tone wood discussion.
Your persuasions won't touch mine.
This guitar is made from Meranti, not Mohagany. The nut is ABS plastic, not graphite. That being said, it plays and sounds beautiful. But the ABS nut is garbage, and the strings hang up on it. I plan to have a bone nut made for mine. Then I will be very happy with it.
Love these instruments and demos, but please tone down this LUT on top of the videos. It's so over the top and isn't even really flattering the skin-tones. It's cool to have these looks but in my opinion ~30% of it would look much more pleasing.
Vintage tuners suck. There is no reason to not put locking tuners on every guitar.
100%.
Ĺocking tuners are overkill on a hardtail guitar and minimum it should add £30 to the guitars cost as every component has to be marked up to make profit, they cost more to mass produce and there are more chances that there will be faulty/unusuable parts as they are more complicated and take more time to assemble ,the tolerance of the screw part to ensure it locks the string etc also the volume of guitars they produce, and additional metals required can inhibit/slow production if the supply chain isn't getting them enough high quality metal fast enough.......there are many reasons why locking tuners shouldn't be on every guitar, also some guitars will neck dive with them on
