I have always loved this song. I just recently found out that this song was about Marc Bolan. I also found out that unbeknownst to most of the world, after Marc's untimely instantaneous death via car crash in south London (with his fiancee also in the car, and their 2 month old baby son thankfully not in the vehicle), David Bowie took good care of Bolan's fiancee and son, who were disinherited and financially ruined, since Bolan was still technically married to his first wife when he died, and she got the inheritance while the fiancee and son went broke in Los Angeles. Bowie paid for the son's private schooling in L.A. and basically supported him & his mom, financially, from afar (Bowie was Bolan's son's godfather). So HOORAY for David Bowie!!! Even though he had drug problems and other issues throughout the 70's, he was a generous, responsible godfather to Marc Bolan's son. I have always loved Bowie's music and he is my favorite rock star, but after learning about this particular story, I admire him even more...All this goes through my head when I hear this song now...
+MiaSqueaky Incredible story. David Bowie was always, always a gentleman and a truly good person. Read Chris Cornell's tribute to DB: www.blabbermouth.net/news/soundgardens-chris-cornell-on-david-bowie-hearing-hed-died-was-just-a-really-sad-thing/
Someone posted a comment on another of Chris’s covers saying that ‘Chris Cornell can Chris Cornell any song,’ and it’s so true. God he is so missed. He and Bowie are absolute gifts upon this world.
A brilliant musician who's now gone, singing a cover in tribute to a brilliant musician who's now gone, who wrote the song in tribute to a brilliant musician who's now gone. And such a stunning song it is.
@@drewfuss2006 So late but better than never. It was in Edmonton. When I yelled out the request he had a bewildered look on his face and looked in my direction and dumbfoundedly said "What?!?!" So I yelled it again and he played it, was pretty epic. I just assumed he would have played it or some Bowie song considering both Prince and Bowie had died that year.
Honestly, Chris Cornell could cover a legal disclaimer for a prescription fungus treatment and turn it into a heartfelt masterpiece, but it is extra nice when he covers an amazing song like this.
I came here when i found out Chris had died. 2 of my musical heroes gone within 18 months, it's not fair. At the time it didn't feel appropriate to comment, i guess if does now. Rock in peace 🤘❤
Fuck, RIP Chris Cornell you up there in the stardust with Bowie now.
