So glad Faye Hadley brought me here, glad you Sir are telling it like it should be, I'm a mechanic and I'm in need of education on body work as I'm in a slow process of restoring a 1978 Dodge Ramcharger, the frame is solid but the body has rust spots and some holes eating through, it's not super bad, but I know I need to do something, and it may look bad with body repairs and primer but not as bad as rust hole. This Ramcharger was my Dad's which I got when he passed away, it's been in my family my whole life, it's what I learned to drive and work on as Dad started my training under the hood when I was 11, so it's a definite keeper. I thank you Sir! Thumbs up!
Faye is a fantastic person, as well as a breath of fresh air. Yes, I'm not much on glitz and glamour, just straight forward truth. Nice story behind your Ramcharger, and you honor your dad with your goal! I will gladly help you achieve your goal with short, sweet, and to the point steps to get you there. If you can get me some specifics (pics, state of repairs,etc), I'll shorten your journey. :)
Thanks for the interest and the compliment. I have done a ton of work to that car (as well as a couple others) and because I'm more of a worker than a "you tuber" (and the fact that Paul is still in Mexico), I haven't shot any videos. Not to worry though, I'm going to get someone else to step in and do the camera work :)

You have a point, but..............Paul V. was the one that named it. Also, because of the emails and text's early on, it became quite clear that body & paint had to be explained, not to mention the fact that THAT'S WHAT I DO!

Man I love that old car! You should find a wrecked helicopter and take the jet turbine out of it. Put that baby in there! My brother put one in his Mustang last spring, and the chicks really dig him.
That's so weird that you said that!!!! Years ago I had a friend that was going to give me one of two helicopter engines that he bought from a military surplus auction. My plan was to put it in a 67 Dodge 9 passenger station wagon (that I still have), and make it street legal. The guy, who used to be a regular at SLIX disappeared and I never saw him again (I heard some time later that he died) :( So YES, I'm happy to hear your brother made it happen!!!!!!!!! :)

So, since my video guy, who got me into this youtube stuff is indefinitely out of pocket, I haven't taken the time to grab a camera and tried to film while working. I'm trying to get a friend to step in and catch ya'll up, while I'm doing what I do best...........WORK! I have NOT stopped on the 58, 61, or the 68 SS Chevelle. The straight axle is in the 58 and functional, the frame is back under the car, and the floor pans are all done and coated. The engine (original 348 tri-power), trans (M-20 Muncie), and rear end (original but modified) are also in. Stay tuned as I have much to explain and much progress to show. :)
@@rickciotti Sounds like good work! I'd love to see it! I installed an Econoline I-beam axel in a '64 Ford Falcon with a 427 Ford engine for the street back in the late '60s but I made a mess of it so I was hoping to see how you did it for some positive inspiration. 😊

I've always wanted to "Butcher" a cool car, but just never had one that I deemed too far gone to do it to. Don't get me wrong, I've done quite a bit of custom stuff to other people's cars / trucks, etc., and even my own, but those cars were not really valuable at the time. This 58 is a valuable car, and I even had a good chassis that could have been used...............but what about the axle that I had sitting in the junk yard? At my age, it's "now or never", and it's pretty respectable to the story that goes with it. Now, as far as your 64 Falcon, and messing it up............"No guts, no glory" is all I have to say. You went for it and you have my respect for doing so. With that said DO IT AGAIN, I promise it's always better the second time! :)

The chevy was wrecked before you got it. You put the car back on the road and for that reason, you are a hero.
You are 100% correct! I originally wanted 3/16" but the supplier didn't have it in stock. 1/8" would've done the trick (and he did mention it) but that car is so damn heavy I went the other way. In my mind I was looking at a whole bunch of old tools, motorcycles, and equipment that I have and noticed that everything over built 100+ years ago is still here, and usable. So, that's where the 1/4" came from. I'll be doing a 54 Ford real soon, and that will be done a bit different. :)
@@rickciotti when I started doing straight axles I looked at 3/16 but after research I went with 1/8. Most of my stuff is built as a race car as well so I keep an eye towards weight. I actually just posted a video on my 55 Chevy front suspension on here a couple weeks ago. All of our cars are battle tested 4 speed race cars. My buddy’s car wheelies in 3 gears.
Obviously, I asked for and wanted to drive a straight axle 58' Impala. I really did battle with whether or not to do it, as I had an extra (original) frame and suspension that I could have used. The 58' had been sitting since the late 60's, and the previous owner had already modified things using, what is now considered very rare after market parts / accesories. Since I had that axle in my junk yard, and the rest of the frame was still good, I decided that it would be period correct with what had already been done. Now, at any time, that car could go back to 100% original very easily..............."IF" I wanted to :)

1/4” is severely overbuilt lol. I use 1/8” rails and do wheelies on it. But hey better overbuilt than underbuilt I guess.
