my black lab is 20 years old! no one believes me when I tell them but he's a still joyful good boy who sprints around the house when a stranger walks in.
I love the username, let your dog know I said hi, I can’t believe he is older than me, Hes lived an entire human life, basically. I mean a good chunk of it. Jeezus
My first dog was a Chihuahua named Sweetie. And she never matched her name until she was old. Took her about 12 years to sweeten up. Although, her hair loss made her look kind of scary. She was tough and fearless. Chihuahuas will have a special place in my heart, especially Sweetie.
We have one that showed up at our house at random after a big storm who is, as chihuahuas go, broken. He is sweet-natured and goes about life as if he's very grateful for the pampering he gets in our house, running up to my sister whenever she's crocheting because he think he's going to be fitted for a new sweater, which he also appreciates as he gets cold very easily. He does bark at strangers, and he's done an ankle bite or two, but I don't think I've seen him actually follow through with the "rabid chihuahua" attack they're known for.
I have a very elderly dog! His name is Fenway, and he’s a 17 year old Dachshund. He’s blind and deaf, and pretty much has no idea what’s going on anymore, but we still love him
I adopted my chihuahua when he was 9. He’s now 11. He doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body. He was horribly abused the first 8 1/2 years of his life, but since coming to live with me, he finally knows what love is. He’s still skittish if you move too fast, but mommy has learned to move much slower to not frighten my boy!
Sounds so similar to my experience, except he's a Chihuahua Dashchund mix - basically a long Chihuahua. Adopted at 8 years old after years of abuse in summer 2018. I am so grateful to his foster mom. I would not have been able to adopt him right when he was rescued, because he was in such bad shape and I don't have the resources & knowledge. I also live alone, so wouldn't have been able to socialize him properly. His foster mom even flew him to me! He was still terrified when I adopted him, even after months with his amazing professional dog foster mom, so I can't even imagine how bad it was when he was first rescued. He has finally become a strong boy, totally unrecognizable to his past 2018 self.
My chihuahua Elvis is 18 years old. He is about that size. His back legs are getting weak but as long as he can eat drink poop I will take care of him. He was so small when I got him he fit in the palm of my hand. He was in a shelter with others from a breeder raid. ❤️
People don't buy 21 year old cats? My parent's outdoor cat is about 27-28, had him when I was 11. No teeth whatsoever, walks with a limp these days but wants his morning buttscratches and nums like he did all those years ago.
I swear, I've meet so many older chihuahuas working at a vet clinic that I'm convinced they've got a gene that keeps them going for years and years! Awesome for him and his family. Seeing this little cutie and his derpy face is everything!
@@jordanleighwheatley was just about to say that. My little guy is a dachshund, chihuahua, poodle and pomeranian. He is 17 with a little arthritis but still full of piss and vinegar. Still gets nighttime zoomies and still has sight and sound though not as well as he used to. Even still has most of his teeth.
He acted like my chihuahua when she wants to be held. I normally just hold her close and turn her when I bath and dry her, it’s easier on everyone. Lol
My chihuahua was also 19 years old in surprisingly good condition for her age she didn’t have any health issues and she could run around if she wanted to and had very little arthritis. Herr name was Sarafina and every year on Christmas we would put a little reindeer costume that she loved and she would sleep for most of the day and whenever my parents told her to go get some exercise she would go into her cage and slam the door (nobody had taught her how to close the door but she somehow knew how to) and go to sleep, she unfortunately passed away in 2021.
@@laverome respect for being responsible enough to recognize you can't take care of a dog. so many dog owners give up half way through and abandon them
I'm so sorry you lost your little baby. I know it's still hurts. You will blessed to have her for so long. Please accept my sincere condolences. Loss of a pet is some of the worst pain we go through
In my personnal life, i've never seen a stereotypical chiuaha of "angry and constantly barking", they've all been very affectionate, friendly and calm. They can be a bit territorial and bark at strangers who pass by but if you come up to them and they get to sniff you they're quite chill.
Elderly Chihuahuas are such a precious sort. When I was growing up my family had one that we raised from a puppy all the way up to fifteen years of age, and she managed fairly darn well until the last few years of her life. She was out family's first Chihuahua and we didn't maintain her teeth as well as we could have, so she ended up needing most of her teeth pulled by the time she was 12 or so. At 13 her hips started to give out, and at 15 she passed away of natural causes in our home, surrounded by the majority of her loved ones. They deserve every speck of love an owner can give!
❤ Mr. Bentley! I have his twin in girl version. We have had German Shepherds, Dobermans, Portuguese guard dogs and labradors growing up. They were all drama-mamas when it came time for baths and nail clipping . Now I have a little rescue Chihuahua named Dr. Elka VonShredder and just adore her! Despite her name, she is just the sweetest kindest little dog ever except if she finds a piece of paper. Then she must hunt and kill the paper😂.
My old lady Chihuahua is 15 years old now. She was always the sweetest dog, even as a puppy. She was sassy with her year-older brother, but they loved each other. He died a couple of years ago, but she's still going strong. She never let us open her mouth ever, so her teeth are soooo bad now and she has horrible breath. But, because of her age, the vet doesn't want to remove her teeth, or even attempt to clean them, because she might not wake up from anesthesia. So, we feed her mushy wet dog food and try not to smell her breath.
My chihuahua is going on 11 this year on easter day, ive had him since his birth, i delivered him when i was 8. He has been through so much. Attacked by 3 dogs in his life time, has had countless seizures(still has a few to this day), yet he is still so energetic, he has never bit at anyone, he is the most passive dog ive ever met/had. The day he passes, will ruin me, but I know he will feel loved. This video gives me hope that he will live a few more years. he is still going strong!
Yes chihuahuas live a long time. My previous chihuahua lived for 19 years. She was long haired and looked like a mini German shepherd. With a bossy character to boot lol. Personally, I love chihuahuas, I love their quirks. They are the best breed!
What a tough cookie ❤ My boston terrier mix had 2 clusters of seizures and it was horrible 😢 luckily we figured out the cause, it was from bath and both works wallflowers. But we almost lost him. Prayers for your little fur baby ❤❤❤
Whoever owns him, you guys know how to take care of dogs. It is amazing he is this age and still goin after his back story. He is such a little jawless cutie. Lol 🥰💖
There is certainly a little bit of luck involved when one is that old, though, ofcourse taking good care of the animals increases their chances tremendously. Just like any living being really. There are plenty of small breed dogs that do not live that long despite being spoiled everything imaginable.
it's confusing though that they clearly don't trim his nails at all. well, half of the pets on girl with the dogs seem to be there because their owners don't even brush them. weird pet owning behaviour.
Yes he really is my dog Scout he was 11 years old when he past away he was a little Bichon frise and he didn't even look his age he still looked like a puppy I think that it depends on what kind a dog you get that's how if I ever get another dog it would be a small one again because alot of big dogs don't last that long and sometimes come with a lot of health problems as well..
oh my gosh, i love him…no guarantee the old guy is kicking still a year after this was uploaded, but whether still in this life or the next, he was and is an amazingly handsome and dapper little gentleman long life to you Mr Bentley
We lost our 17-year-old Cairn Terrier in early January. We are experiencing real, devastating grief; but watching the love and patience you showed Mr. Bentley helped. Our Cairn was a member of our family. We virtually put our lives on hold and took care of her through a number of illnesses; and we would do it all over again if only we could. Thank you for your dedication to your clients even the ones who are older. P.S. I wish more people would look to adopt senior dogs.
I am so sorry for your loss. I know exactly how you are feeling. We lost our 15 year old Cairn Terrier in mid December, and we still feel totaly devastated. 😪 I would like to have another Cairn Terrier someday...at first I thought about Westie, but I have a feeling that Cairns are healthier. What sort of health issues had your Cairn? Old age related?
@@hannaR_ All old-age related. But she was healthy for about 15 of those 17 years. Other people I have talked to have said the only relief they got was getting another dog. I would only get a Cairn; but I am not totally there yet. Maybe with the passage of more time. I am sorry for your loss, too. I pray you will feel better soon. Give yourself as much time and grace as you need.
Sorry for your loss. I know what you mean about putting your lives on hold to take care of your dog. We've been doing the same for the last two years now and counting. It's very hard.
I just love the way you say ‘he’s ancient’ because I say the same thing about my grandpa’s cat, a cat who is currently 23 and will turn 24 in March 2023! Said cat is a very picky guy about who can pet him but whenever I pet him, he drools on me. I also lovingly refer to him as a worm on a string, because he is getting somewhat thin at his old age, but he eats an eats well, it’s just age. He’s happy and healthy but, naturally, not extremely active. Takes a walk around the garden and then goes back in to sleep. ❤ sometimes he goes outside and I come outside a bit from the house and he comes, screaming, demanding I carry him inside. (I’ll do it and he knows it.)
I thought you said that you're grandpa is 23 and would be turning 24 I thought I would have to call the FBI to find out what going on and why he's a grandpa at the age of 23 or 24
He looks so with it! Someone joked that he had the 1000 yard stare, but I honestly don't see that! How long do they live for? He's not even blind, yet? Amazing! I want to squeeze him (but not too hard).
This is why I think it's actually important to find a good groomer and STAY with that groomer. Sure, you want someone who will safely and gently groom your pet the way you want, but it's also about the relationship built between groomer and animal. Bentley obviously doesn't like his nails clipped, but he knows you and trusts that you won't hurt him, so didn't fight too much. That relationship keeps him from getting too stressed during the process, even at his age. I think he's beautiful!
He is not all stop calling him that.. he's a beautiful baby puppy... I lost my baby last month he passed away right in front of me. That was the hardest thing I had ever gone through best puppy right here reminds me of my baby. It hurts me so much. to see this puppy. Here reminds me of my baby and he was 10 years old when he died I miss my baby so much I keep asking God two please give me my baby back. Everyday I miss my baby. I wish I could find what just like him but there will never be another Max
My dog was half Chihuahua and fourteen years old. Super healthy and so active that everyone thought he was only five. I honestly think he would have made it to twenty years if the gate wasn't left open three months ago.....he was hit by a truck. I miss him so much that this video made me cry a little. Chihuahuas are such good dogs
You are So right, he is taking the bath&grooming in stride! I think we both see how brave, sweet and tough this little guy is. I would have Loved to see & hear her be kinder towards him, made me kinda sad tbh... Sorry, not first language :)
@unravel I thought so too...I felt a little upset at her teasing & mocking of him...especially sad at the end when he looked so lost by the door & she just kept filming, saying 'Poor Bentley ' in a sarcastic tone when explaining his carrier wasn't there...usually love this fab lady & her videos...this is the first one that made me uncomfortable.....
@@carolinefalvey683 I mean.. the dog wouldn't understand what she's saying... Besides, she did say she has been grooming him for a very long time now so her teasing is like teasing a close friend you have known for many years. She doesn't mean any of it and it's just a lot of people's humor (probably the same humor of Bentley's owner). I do these all the time with my pets too. Constant talking, whatever it may be, might also be well appreciated by some animals as well and might help them calm down a little. I do understand why you might feel uncomfortable but I promise it's not that deep 😅
Our little chihuahua Roscoe is almost 17. He's about like this now, blind and barely able to hear. He's still the sweetest little thing in the world. He's been through so much.
The loss of the lower jaw is sadly common in tiny breeds, we're probably all well aware that gum disease can lead to bone loss, and tiny breeds just have such fine bones that even a small amount of loss can compromise the lower jaw. I would urge any tiny breed owner to be extra, extra on top of their babies' dental hygiene to reduce the risk of losing the lower jaw. Whilst Mr Bentley seems to be handling it really well, it's not a condition you want to subject your dog to if you can avoid it.
I have a Chihuahua/Shiba Inu mix also named Bentley. He's somewhere between 11 and 13, and doesn't even show age yet. He's had one broken tooth removed, and is going strong. Absolutely a sweetheart of a dog, his record is 7 kids petting at once.
I like how he seems to trust you so much. That wee face! Maybe he was really super anxious about his missing purse and that's why he wanted you to hold him so much.
My chihuahua would do the same thing lol, he was always such a baby and would cry anytime he thought you might of hurt him but didn't actually (which included nail clipping); baths were easy though once you got over the loud whining
Awwww, I LOVE Bentley!❤ I got a little chiweenie (named Captain/Cappy) from my parents on my 13th birthday….sadly, I had to put her down a couple years ago, shortly after my 33rd birthday. The goofy little “stretch limo chihuahua” grew up right alongside me and gave me 20 years of absolute puppy joy!! I can’t wait to see her again one day, across the rainbow bridge. We humans definitely don’t deserve dogs…they’re pure unconditional love, in living form. ❤😊
As the proud owner of a 13 year old, derpy dachshund, this little old man made me laugh so much 😂 they just get so derpy in their old age and keep getting cuter and cuter. What a good boy
From an overhead angle, he looks like a deer, and I find that super precious Btw If you've never had the pleasure of petting and feeding deer, please add it to your bucket list-at a park/attraction made for that of course! They're simply adorable.
Bentley is so sweet. Reminds me of my nephews Chihuahua Jack. He was good natured, sweet and lovable. He wasn’t really fond of men. On that rare occasion when the Chihuahua came out of him he would run to his crate and stay in it until he calmed down. Then he would come back out. I miss Jack. I loved how patient you were with Bentley.
these elderly dogs do deserve all the comfort possible and the story the could tell from their long lives. my ex late dog was at least 21 years old, that old ugly boy was still learning new tricks till basically 6 month before his end. stubborn like no other and so dearly still missed 6 year's after his peaceful passing. hopefully they will find a new suitable purse for Bentley
My Elderly Chihuahua , Benji lived until he was 18. He was a rescue boy and his first owner gave him up because of living situations when the rescue place got him he was according to them overweight and had most of teeth removed due to the first owner not feeding him correct food. Benji was 7 when I adopted him and the adoption place warned he wouldn't make it past 10, 12 if we were lucky due to how his first owner looked after him. BUT he might of been old that didn't stop him from living past what everyone said he would live to . I poured my heart and soul out looking after Benji , he passed on in his sleep after a short fight with cancer in his favorite bed that was made especially for him
My dog Sarah was 17 but she had a lump on her right side and one last night she was in so much pain that she couldn’t get up out of her dog bed. So my mom, brother and I had to carry her in mom’s car and drive her to the animal hospital. We later found out that she ended up in such critical condition. She was close to dying anytime soon and time was of the essence for her and I was crying really bad for her as I was wishing that there was a way to save my dog but I didn’t have enough money to save her. Even my mom was crying for her. So before we had the doctor put her down I went through such a tough decision to see her buried or have her body cremated. I decided to go with the cremation because I couldn’t bear to see my own dog get buried. So we had to have the doctor put her down to end her suffering and she ended up dead. In my bed at night, I thought I could smell Sarah’s breath as if it was her way of saying one last goodbye to me before she crossed over. Later that day I drove back to the hospital by myself to pick up her cremation box with her ashes in it. And some cards with it. I miss her so much. RIP Sarah! God Bless Your Sweet Soul. You truly have crossed the rainbow 🌈 bridge. I will always love you and remember you until the end of time. 💐🌷🌹🌺🌸🌼🌻
My daughter also has a Whua close to Bentley's age. His teeth are also gone ( via the vet, of course). He's black, but has totally grayed over most of his body at this point. He's an utter sweetheart. Love ❤️❤️❤️
He knows the routine so well and really enjoys his groom. A sweet old man with a lovely personality. Of course he is showing off for his public and we are here to appreciate it.
I have a soft spot for all old dogs but ancient chi's are the most special. My old daycare had an 11yr old chi with brain damage from a surgery complication, he was definitely my favorite. He loved "sweater time", where I would shove him in my sweater and use my slip lead like a seatbelt. His flavor of brain damage affected mobility, pretty much making him stumble like a drunk at all times.
Sweet little baby! I love him! My son that lives with us has a Chiweenie who will be 17 next month. Poor little guy has cataracts and Geriatric Vestibular Syndrome that comes and goes. Poor little guy has to wear a diaper now because sometimes he will just stand up and pee. I am an invalid and sit in a chaise lounger all day. Which is good for him because he sits with me. We put those quilted pads under him so it saves my chair. His pee smells really really bad. And he poops in his sleep sometimes and sometimes he starts whining and fidgeting and then poops. You never know what or when he will go to the bathroom. We almost put him down a month or so ago. He got so he wouldn’t eat and couldn’t stand and was disoriented. It was a Saturday. So we decided we were going to put him down on Monday. My son even dug a grave in our pet cemetery. We have 3 cats, two bearded dragons and 3 dogs buried there. Anyway come Monday he was starting to eat and was doing better. So we put it off and was like we will just take it day by day. He got back to his normal condition. So we just take care of him like you would an elderly person. My son and husband take him out to per every now and then and I pick up his poop when he goes and keep a diaper on him because I don’t want an accident on my chair with the pee. I look at it as though he is in hospice care. I have to spoon feed him soft food because he doesn’t have the strength to eat hard food. But I will continue to take care of him as long as I see him trying and life in his eyes. They are so precious!
Bentley is so sweet and adorable. He has the potential to be a grumpy little old man because of his age but he's still sweet. I'd love to have a pup like him.

I’m sorry but I always find it funny that most dogs named like “Sweetie” “Princess” “Daisy” “Honey” etc are absolute devils lol
Why did I first read Rabid as racist 💀💀💀🤣🤣🤣
I always thought chihuahuas were BORN rabid & grumpy...
I have a very elderly dog! His name is Fenway, and he’s a 17 year old Dachshund. He’s blind and deaf, and pretty much has no idea what’s going on anymore, but we still love him
Aw he sounds cute! I hope he has a great day :') (you too, too!)
@@a.rosegulick Ty! Hope you do, too!
Same but with my soon to be 17yr Multipoo. Blind, deaf, has dementia and no danger awareness, but still love him to death.
He is cute. I love senior dogs.🥰
I think Bentley was feeling "Fragile" today. This is the reason he wanted hugs and hand-holding sometimes humans feel fragile too!: )
Indeed
I adopted my chihuahua when he was 9. He’s now 11. He doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body. He was horribly abused the first 8 1/2 years of his life, but since coming to live with me, he finally knows what love is. He’s still skittish if you move too fast, but mommy has learned to move much slower to not frighten my boy!
Sus
We also adopted a previously abused chihuahua; my family adores her - they are great little buddies to have!

I had a cat that lived to be over 21 yrs old. Ppl could not believe it. She was our warrior princess. Videos showing pets this old speaks to me.
People don't buy 21 year old cats? My parent's outdoor cat is about 27-28, had him when I was 11. No teeth whatsoever, walks with a limp these days but wants his morning buttscratches and nums like he did all those years ago.
I love how he ran away from the blue dryer straight into your arms. So sweet
reminds me of my cats when theyre at the vet 😭
I swear, I've meet so many older chihuahuas working at a vet clinic that I'm convinced they've got a gene that keeps them going for years and years! Awesome for him and his family. Seeing this little cutie and his derpy face is everything!
Chihuahuas and dachshunds live forever on piss and vinegar.

@@jordanleighwheatley was just about to say that. My little guy is a dachshund, chihuahua, poodle and pomeranian. He is 17 with a little arthritis but still full of piss and vinegar. Look at this little grandpa, he's too precious.
My chi was 18 when he passed last year. He was my heart and soul and everyone who met him loved him. Thanks for sharing Bentley with us. ❤
He wanted a huggie when you were drying him. Bless him too cute
He acted like my chihuahua when she wants to be held. I normally just hold her close and turn her when I bath and dry her, it’s easier on everyone. Lol
He wanted out, nothing more.

@goodoldgamer7063 That´s an answer from someone without any knowledge of dog body language.
@@ephajanke3242idk man, he seemed pretty happy about the hug.

My Chihuahua is 17 . Doing well. Her name is Princess . I love her
In my personnal life, i've never seen a stereotypical chiuaha of "angry and constantly barking", they've all been very affectionate, friendly and calm.
Awww… What a lucky dog to be so loved. 💕
❤ Mr.
Chihuahuas are a misunderstood and underrated breed 💕

Thank you for sharing this
Yes chihuahuas live a long time. My previous chihuahua lived for 19 years. She was long haired and looked like a mini German shepherd. With a bossy character to boot lol. Personally, I love chihuahuas, I love their quirks. They are the best breed!
What's his name...?
What a tough cookie ❤ My boston terrier mix had 2 clusters of seizures and it was horrible 😢 luckily we figured out the cause, it was from bath and both works wallflowers. But we almost lost him. Prayers for your little fur baby ❤❤❤
@@KaiserSoze357 His name is Reese. :)
God bless the poor little dog. He is precious❤❤❤
Really? I think he's fugly.
He reminds me if Syd the Sloth.
it's confusing though that they clearly don't trim his nails at all. well, half of the pets on girl with the dogs seem to be there because their owners don't even brush them. weird pet owning behaviour.
But did you see those nails? I imagine how uncomfortable and painful it would be to stand in those.
He is in awesome shape for his age❤️
Ikr! So full of energy at such an old age
Mine is 18 and still has most of his teeth. 🙂
Doesn’t look a day over 11 🤍
Yes he really is my dog Scout he was 11 years old when he past away he was a little Bichon frise and he didn't even look his age he still looked like a puppy I think that it depends on what kind a dog you get that's how if I ever get another dog it would be a small one again because alot of big dogs don't last that long and sometimes come with a lot of health problems as well..
He’s so tiny and cute! I had a chihuahua and he had to have his teeth removed and his tongue hung out his mouth too. He lived til he was 18
oh my gosh, i love him…no guarantee the old guy is kicking still a year after this was uploaded, but whether still in this life or the next, he was and is an amazingly handsome and dapper little gentleman
long life to you Mr Bentley
I would like to have another Cairn Terrier someday...at first I thought about Westie, but I have a feeling that Cairns are healthier.
I read somewhere that canines have shorter life spans because they live bigger and love stronger. I thought that was beautiful.
@@shellylemons It rings as so true.
I thought you said your grandpa was turning 24 😭
I thought you said that you're grandpa is 23 and would be turning 24 I thought I would have to call the FBI to find out what going on and why he's a grandpa at the age of 23 or 24

He’s an old man so he’s not new to it lol.
This brought back memories and tears to my eye. My boy only lasted untill he was 16. He died peacefully in my arms.😭😭😭😭

It makes me unreasonably happy when I hear about a dog being adopted in their later years.
Our little chihuahua Roscoe is almost 17. He's about like this now, blind and barely able to hear. He's still the sweetest little thing in the world. He's been through so much.
What a sweetheart, I hope my 13 year old chihuahua lives longer. Had her since she was 8 weeks old, love her so much.❤
The loss of the lower jaw is sadly common in tiny breeds, we're probably all well aware that gum disease can lead to bone loss, and tiny breeds just have such fine bones that even a small amount of loss can compromise the lower jaw.
Only a truly excellent doggo could boast a record like that!

My chihuahua would do the same thing lol, he was always such a baby and would cry anytime he thought you might of hurt him but didn't actually (which included nail clipping); baths were easy though once you got over the loud whining

Bentley is so sweet. Reminds me of my nephews Chihuahua Jack. He was good natured, sweet and lovable. He wasn’t really fond of men. 💐🌷🌹🌺🌸🌼🌻
