Lyrics:
I never did it
No I won't admit it
Why should I lie for you anymore?
You never loved me
You pushed and you shoved me
I seen a woman I never saw
I saw you laugh when the knife was twisted
It still hurts but the pain has shifted
I'm looking back at the time that drifted by
But I won't cry for the wasted years
'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
Feeling neglected
Used and rejected
You need a shoulder to lean upon
Maybe you've picked him
Found your next victim
Don't worry someone will come along
I broke the spell that you kept me under
I'd had enough of the rain and thunder
I lost track of the time and I wonder why
But I won't cry for the wasted years
'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
I'll sit around and drink a few more beers
Until the memory just disappears
'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
I was 15 in 1983. That's when these bands popped up every day and man, so many great songs came out of that era. One hit wonders or not, oh so good!
same here man.
I was 15 in 1983 too! Someone I never even dated called the radio station and dedicated this song to me! I couldn't stop laughing!
I was 14 and I'm here to say the 80s produced the best bands and songs in the world
I was 15, turned 16 in '83. Dedicated this song to an asshole myself! Met my still husband the very next year. Together 37 years now, married 34. This song still as great as we are. That other guy, still as much an asshole! Some things really do never change! We were not just lucky, we were blessed. Best times. Best bands.
@@LJDennis nice. He'll probably see your comment one day and say "Damn, she still thinks I'm am asshole after 37 years".
Great kiss off song! Summer of 1983 seemed to last forever. Great time, was only 13. Had each and every day and night to play and sleep soundly. Those 3 months seemed to last forever! God, those were the days! Now at 48, I work nights and sleep days. I hate hot weather and contending with the rat race. You think you want to be an adult when you're a kid. Then when you get there, you want to go back...go figure. Such is life...thank God for the music. Long live rock!!!!
I was 17 and it was one of the greatest years of my life
Summer of 1983 was fantastic. I do miss my youth.
I graduated in 83. I was 17. Song brings back many memories but I guess alot of them do
Long live Rock and Rock. This song is more top 40 but still like it just the same
A beautiful time in my life (sophomore year) when life was simple not like today
Unfortunately I have lived this song.
Summer of 1983, at age of 21, I was attending North Texas State University Jazz Studies major, working at an AM country and western radio station in Denton, Texas. KDNT AM 1440 The Heart of Texas Country.
Being a teenager when this came out brought me here.
This song got me through a sad breakup in 1983. It holds a place in my heart. ❤
Over thirty years since I've heard this great song. Now it's 2020 and I cry a lot in these times...but hearing this song again has properly restored the salt needed for more tears...in a very good way...thanks Marty!
For all of those who have just had enough!!
Great song! I was 17 nearing my senior year in high school when this song came out! Ahhhhhh the memories.
A forgotten little gem.
His voice reminds me a lot of Peter Gabriel. This is a great song that should have gone much further than it did.
And phil collins.
Hell yes to the class of 1983 ... Kick ass past blast.
And you are right, this group should have gone further, Rick Springfield too
Hell yes Rick Springfield too
This is coming from Mobile Alabama
I saw you laugh when the knife was twisted
It still hurts but the pain has shifted ...
One of my favorite illustrations of all time, this cover illustration by the monstrously talented Stan Watts.
I didn't realize it was an illustration -- will have to do a search for a high res version, but it's a brilliant design!
God Id love to go back to the 80's best time of my life.
Same here!
Heard this a Lot on KSHE 95 FM Stereo in St.Louis :) QC
Back in the day dedicated it to an ex she was a bullet i dodged looking back great song 🎉
Weird. I'm 54 this summer and think I was 15 in '83, and out of the blue today, the title of this song came to mind. I couldn't remember the melody, or the artist, and I'm not going through any sort of mid-life relationship crisis - married and all good. But I Googled this and voila, took me back to '83 just like that. I wonder what Martin is doing these days...
I was cracking a joke on the phone with a client about licking my daughters eyeball when I miss her cheek and BAM the title of this song popped into my head. Mid-submission of my work, I stopped my current song playing on UA-cam and searched the title. Turned it up, rocked out at the office and forced my co-workers to deal with the rock out.... Great song!!!!
How could anyone who has been through such heartache ..... like someone poured salt into a broken heart and sewed it back together with barbwire not like this song ..... that's what this song is about brother
Frickin great tune.
One of my first albums
Trying to rock me, get me jealous....when a man wakes up and realizes enough is enough.
When music was worth listening to...thanks for sharing 😎👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍
entered Billboard May 21, 1983 ..reached #36
Certainly, I heard it on Casey Kasem's American Top 40 and went out and bought the single, one of the first 45s I ever bought!
Amazing song. It can apply to those men who expect a woman to invest their time in them but they have no time to invest in that woman. Rock it out loud!
Great music 😎
It is a good song....goes both ways love.
Good hook. Good track. Good memories of those days.
The hook for this song has been running in my head for days now. Maybe listening to it over and over will get it out of there.
The same guitar lick is used in Eric Carmen's "Hey Deanie"
13 in 1983 and this song was CRANKING..... over and over and over.
17 in 1983, song was all over the radio and MTV, I never owned it but as of today can play the solo note for not from memory. Pure pop hit song right here.
Love this song, this is the first time I've heard the album version and was surprised by the extended ending.
Fortifying one's resolve.
I just heard this song on SiriusXM Deep Tracks. I'm shocked I've never heard this song before! Or, if I did, I forgot about it. Solid song!!! It kind of sounds like the Neal Schon/Jan Hammer work from around the same period.
smooth n meaningful! 😉
Graduated 1983 love this song!!
Classic
Too cool.
Hi, this is Martin Briley. This appears to be an unauthorized mash-up, definitely not me playing
Lyrics are unsurpassable
God bless my Ex...these one for you sweetheart...still crying outta my salted snakeeye tho...
The guitar solo is monster.
Always loved that riff!
Kinda crazy how this is my professor in college right now lol!
Wow!!
Dam that's cool this is a great song,I always played it my many keg parties, great song! Thanks for the music!
I vaguely remember this song from the summer of '83... the record company tried to push it but it was a total stiff, it didn't do anything on the charts. Decided to look it up & glad i did, it's a better song than i remember and the production is ahead of its time.
Just heard this little diddy on deep cuts, Arkansas Rocks 94.5fm.
Still so true to this day!
Great tune.....used n shove me....so true this age n time......y'all ain't with a salt of my nuts....reload
I love it!
🎶🎶💗🎶🎶💗🎶🎶
Such a great song!! The video is hilarious!! One of the great songwriters from the 80’s
Thank you for your kind words
I hate this song and I can't stop listening.
The lost 80s
the guitare and the bass reminds me keith richard and bill wyman from the rolling stones . some how! good song.
👍
x
Theme song for me and my ex.
This is the male version of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."
This sounds like the remake not the original 83 recording. Still a great song though
The vocal is a bit on the lame side.
A great song, but this has an alternate vocal take!
And the mix emphasizes the chorus-saturated rhythm guitar. Outro is different too.
@@shermanpeabody5512 I don't know who did this track, but it sucks
I thought this was Rick Springfield
This is pretty good but so is dolly partons version
