Kyra's a little prankster. I love her. She already met Cole in the tent, but still hides under the bed to scare him. Dammit Kyra, living or not, you are grounded. lol
When they went in the Ghost girls house two woman in the background were talking and one said "Did you hear the younger daughter is now getting sick?" That ghost girl saved her sisters life.
It's so heartbreaking to know people do this in real life. They like to be caretakers and the attention/sympathy they get for doing that. It might not be their intention for their victims to die, but they sabotage their health on purpose.
It's perfectly okay to not know Malcolm is dead all along and only find out at the end. That's how the director intended it, and that's how it works best for the viewer. And then it's wonderful to watch the film again, now knowing that we've been watching a ghost all along, and noticing all the things that go with it. Realizing that nobody sees Malcolm except Cole. Realizing that Malcolm's wife's sadness at the restaurant and the one and only meal ordered isn't because he's late, but because she's celebrating a sad anniversary without her husband. To realize why she's on the antidepressants, or why she's not avoiding a potential new relationship. The film is wonderfully thought out and one enjoys it every time - though of course the first experience, when one finds out the amazing twist at the end, is the best.
My two favorite things in this movie are the conversation in the car about Grandma and the bumblebee pendant... and the way our perception of Malcolm's wife changes as soon as we find out that Malcolm is dead. I really didn't like her. I found her cold. I felt she had abandoned him. The second I found out that Malcolm was dead, in one second, I completely and correctly re-evaluated her as simply a woman who was grieving the loss of her husband. It's like I instantly re-evaluated the ENTIRE movie. What a great movie experience.
Two additional points: the color red is important, everything interacting with ghosts are red. And originally when released in the theater, whole swathes of audiences were spoiled when an accidental slip during a late-night show; so personally I relish watching someone experiencing the surprise.
It’s amazing how we see Malcolm get killed at the beginning of the movie, and yet we’re all shocked that he’s dead at the end of the movie. To leave as many clues as there are without giving it away is quite brilliant.
We're like the ghosts, we only see what we want to see. I was always mentally explaining away why nobody was talking to Malcolm - his wife was mad at him, Cole's mother had just finished a lengthy discussion with him when Cole came home from school, there were a lot of people at the funeral, and they just assumed he was a friend of the family they hadn't met before, etc. I just wanted to see what happened next with him and Cole, and didn't stop to consider the odd details.
The only people I know who guessed he was dead were people that are familiar with how psychologists operate in America. It would be very unusual for a psychologist to follow a patient around in the community, introduce himself to a child with no parent present (except in a school or residential treatment facility), make house calls, etc. Malcolm did not work like a (living) psychologist.
@@mike888_ca2Funny thing is every time I read a comment like this on reactions to this movie I laugh because I did have someone like that growing up. They're called Therapy Support Staff. And you just don't realize it or what it means until the ending. This was M. Night Shyamalan's finest effort because it was his first so we had nothing at all for expectations watching this movie. Cole was a brilliant character given real life and depth by someone who would be considered too young to be able to take a role of that depth and give it that life. Cole's mom was brilliantly done, and Malcolm's -wife- widow was too. But Bruce Willis did an amazing job too, though in some ways he had the easiest role of all. I still tear up watching this movie. Bruce Willis was good as well; subtle and believable, not a "loud" violent role like we are so used to with his movies. It was good to see him in this role. Well cast overall. Love your reactions -- so genuine and so emotional.
Hi Dasha. Don't worry, most of us didn't see that ending coming! They did a great job dropping hints through the movie, but never giving away the secret. Great emotional reaction! How can anyone not get emotional, especially that scene with Cole and his mom in the car? By the way, another rather creepy movie from around the same time is "Stir of Echoes".
That was an amazing reaction, I think not many people really catch on that he's been dead in most of the movie and that's part of the charm of the movie. But yes, it's very sad in some moments and I'm glad to see you cared for him and the mom throughout the situations, I can't remember if I jumped at the scary moments because it's been so long ago but they add to the twist of the whole story since up to that point it isn't really a horror or scary movie. All in all I definitely enjoyed this, thanks so much for watching another classic :)
The beauty of this film is that so many people, myself included, didn't realize that Malcom had died from the gunshot wound. Haley Joel Osment's (Forrest Gump & Jenny's son in "Forrest Gump") performance did make the movie as good as it was. Bruce Willis did a good job as well in a role that is very different from most of his others. Your reaction was great and very heartfelt. Sad that you didn't have tissues on hand. Thanks again for the shout out! Cheers from New Jersey.
Dasha, you were correct that "stuttering" means your voice gets caught on sounds and your mouth has trouble forming words easily. It's also a condition in adults, but is more often found in children, many of whom grow out of it or they have therapy to learn to form words differently or learn ways to move past it.
I never was a Bruce Willis fan until this movie came out. My girlfriend at the time had make me go see it. After seeing it I had a whole new appreciation for Bruce and how good an actor he is.
15:49 is M. Night Shyamalan. He appears in all of his movies like Hitchcock-- even more prominently. Kinda like STAN LEE! :) Another GREAT reaction from the most adorable reactor of all time- the great DASHA!!!! Love you, Dasha!! The Sixth Sense is a classic! One of the best movies of all time! Toni Collette (the mom) and Haley Joel Osment (the kid) got nominated for Supporting Actress/Supporting Actor. M Night Shyamalan got 2 nominations for Original Screenplay and Best Director. Also the film got nominations for Best Film Editing AND Best Picture. But nothing for Bruce Willis. However, Bruce DID just get nominated for a RECORD 8 Razzies--which I'm sure is something he'd rather forget.
Honestly the scene with them in the car just tears me up every time. Both of their performances are so amazing. When asks if she thinks he's a freak and her response is so real. Great movie, great reaction!
I remember watching this movie at the cinema. I didn't see the end coming. Looking back at the movie, I forgot how well the kid acted in this movie - very convincing.
The biggest reveal I’ve ever seen, whole theatre gasped with the odd exception of those that saw it coming. This was massive and had everyone talking about it
I'm not sure which you saw first, but the child who played Cole in this (Haley Joel Osment) was also little Forrest Gump (not young Forrest, but his son). :)
In this movie, whenever you see the colour red, a ghost is nearby. There are little hints that Willis' character is dead throughout the movie - the red doorknob, the red tint of the buttons on Cole's jacket, etc. Some of M. Night Shyamalan's other movies are also worth checking out: SIGNS and UNBREAKABLE (also starring Bruce Willis)
I'm sure you'd love to see him in "Second Hand Lions", which has a little bit of everything in it; comedy, action-adventure, and drama. It also stars Robert Duvall and Michael Caine (two great actors that have been performing since the 1960's). Another great acting job by Haley Joel Osmont. You should add it to one of your Patreon polls.
I have a story related to this film ... Some 20 years ago, I had sinus surgery to correct a deviated septum (a very minor condition). They had me on the operating table, and had administered a general anesthetic. They asked me to count down from ten, which is normal. You're usually unconscious by the time you hit 3. Now I had plenned this, and kept my concentration long enough that as I lost consciousness, I said: "I see dead people." I dopped-off to the sound of the surgical staff laughing.
Nobody knew that he was dead. That was the incredible way the movie was written, directed, and acted. They managed to keep it a secret from all of us. What a twist!
Dasha, every person watching you react to this movie wishes we could go back and see it for the first time again. I saw this in theater with my wife. We were knocked breathless by the twist at the end. One of the best reveals in movie history IMHO. As always a great reaction. Peace.
@@brianthom6798 No I couldn't. But another good twist for me came at the end of the movie "Fallen", when you realize the story was being narrated by the demon as opposed to Denzell's character.
@@gordonduke8812 That was a pretty good twist, but it always left a bad taste in my mouth: With the reveal that Azazel could inhabit animals, it turned out it was basically impossible that Denzel could win anyway; so it retroactively made it so there were essentially no stakes in the movie.
The little girl's mother suffered from a well known psychological disorder called "Munchhausen by Proxy." Some people think they can only feel good about themselves if they're taking care of someone who is sick... so if nobody is sick, they'll make somebody sick, because taking care of them makes them feel better about themselves. So they have to keep them sick so they can keep feeling good about taking care of them.
Notice Malcolm never interacts with his environment, never opens a door, pick up anything. Also, on the bus to the girl's house, from inside the bus you see Cole and Malcolm. From outside the bus, Cole is alone.
Nobody picked up that Malcolm was dead. Even more amazing, nobody who saw the movie gave away spoilers. Everyone understood how nasty it would be to let the secret out. It was probably the best kept twist-ending secret in the history of cinema.
At my theater, there was a guy who came out of one showing while the next one's audience was going in and belowed "I CAN'T BELIEVE BRUCE WILLIS WAS DEAD THE WHOLE TIME!" and thus spoiled the entire movie for about 200 people and the staff actually BANNED HIM FROM THE THEATER FOR A YEAR....... which......is really harsh but I'd do it too, if someone did that. I hate trolls. ----------------------------SPOILER for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Below _____________________ (I wonder if that was the same a-hole who was yelling "DUMBLEDORE DIES!!!" a few years later)
I haven’t watched this in years. Your reaction has me thinking that a ghost in my house is chopping onions, cause I live alone, but my eyes are watering 🥰
The reaction is emotional, which was required for such a film! He is one of the most beloved, so much so that you get pleasure even from the edited reaction to him almost as well as when recapitulating! The film is certainly a brilliant masterpiece of cinematography! Thanks)
If I could have like ten times I would have….the part where you jumped, because of dog bark(or whatever pet it was)…..priceless. Can’t begin to say how many times that has happened to me. Uh, not with your dog/pet. Lololol
the actress playing the mom blew me away in that scene as well as the kid. The acting in that scene is as good as it can possibly get, it felt so real.
I loved your reaction to this movie. You really put yourself into this movie and that made your reaction even better. I saw it in the theater and was stunned by the ending.
This is a great movie and trust me you weren't the only one that didn't know Bruce Willis was dead, that got everyone and if they say it didn't they're lying, I always love your reactions, and for being so young you're very sharp and I love that your wear your heart on your sleeve
I enjoy that they allow you to understand ghosts in here, their perspective makes sense. Some of them seem to be a bit more confused about the state they are in, as he says, they don't know they are dead. The little girl seemed to be a little more lucid and understood why she was drawn there. It's different than a lot of other ghost movies where the ghost is often just spiteful and evil for the sake of being spiteful and evil.
I always love your reactions, such a pure heart baring the emotion the storytellers want you to feel is refreshing and so much fun to experience as I can revisit the same emotions with you. This movie is wonderfully made, and there are 2 or 3 parts that make me cry every time, cole and his mom in the car is the biggest one.
Great reaction Dasha ... half way through I thought you'd guessed the twist ! ... sounded like your puppy made you jump as well ... you deserve an extra 👍for your pinned comment 😁
Haley Joel Osment, who plays Cole, was indeed beyond amazing in this. I thought for sure that he was going to become the next Leonardo DiCaprio, but he made a surprising few movies after this and that was that. The director, M. Night, has the misfortunate of making his best movie first and never quite being able to equal that in any of his other movies.
Haley Joel Osmond was an amazing child actor. He was Forest Gump's son at the end of the movie. He also does an amazing acting job in Pay it Forward. It is another must see movie. I love watching your reaction. It is a pleasure to watch you go through the whole range of emotions in your reaction videos. Keep up the great work!
I'm glad that the ending wasn't spoiled for you. On a repeat viewing, you will think about him being a ghost and how no one is actually reacting to him.
I'd definitely recommend M. Night Shyamalan's next two films, *_Unbreakable_* and *_Signs_* which are also good in their own right. Unbreakable is honestly Shyamalan's underrated masterpiece, imho, and Signs is my favorite since it terrified me at age 10.
I'd say you didn't realize he was dead because it's so brilliantly done! Just flawless. And I agree with you that that's one of the best performances from a child actor. Fantastic movie, good job on your reaction.
You have such a tender heart... I came back to watch your reaction again and edit this, to make sure I told you that you have such a tender heart... Guess I already said that...
I love this reaction. It’s literally one of the best movie twists surprise endings of all time. I always cry watching the scene in the car with his mom. Is heartbreaking but so beautiful. The actor who plays Cole, Haley Joel Osment won a Saturn award and was nominated for a golden globe and Oscar for his portrayal in this movie.
I’m so sorry but I always feel so bad for laughing every time you jump. You are a fantastic movie reactor. I also had to laugh at the title. “Snot crying” had me laughing before I even watched it 😂😂😂
Great twist. One where everybody should have seen it coming, but none did (or very few). Roger Ebert, the most well-known film critic, said: "I have to admit I was blind-sided by the ending. The solution to many of the film's puzzlements is right there in plain view, and the movie hasn't cheated, but the very boldness of the storytelling carried me right past the crucial hints and right through to the end of the film, where everything takes on an intriguing new dimension."
This film showed Bruce Willis is not just 'Die Hard' and Toni Collette I feel in love with in 'Muriels Wedding ' review it please. Haley the child was just brilliant!! And the end shocked me and everyone I know. Great reaction. Cheer's Beautiful 🇬🇧
Excellent movie, such a good cast and so well done. Tatum O'Neil won a Best Supporting Actress costarring with her father in Paper Moon (1973). Jody Foster was 12yrs old when she was in Taxi Driver (1976). For terrific performances by a young actor you should watch This Boy's Life (1993) with Leonardo DiCaprio, and then What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993).
This is one of the best twist endings ever made. Shyamalan loves twist endings, so after a while you kind of see them coming if you watch a lot of his movies.
In the behind the scenes commentary on the DVD, Shyamalan said they put something red in the scene (dress, door knob, fingernails..) to indicate that there was some ghostly presence in the scene, something that you only recognize if you go back and watch the movie a 2nd time.
One of the best movies ever made. With the greatest twist in history. I remember this movie shocked everybody when it first came out. It's one of those movies you need to watch again after you realize the twist.
I saw it when it first came out in the theaters. Everyone was saying, you have to see the great movie but, not wanting to spoil the ending, no one would tell you what it was about.

I think she would love that movie! It's beautiful
The kid was also in Artificial Intelligence: AI from 2001 as one of the main characters, he was really great in that as well.
That movie was really weird !
I watched that movie when I was like 7. I still don't understand that movie. It was weird.
Stir of Echoes is fantastic! It just had the bad misfortune to come out shortly after this one and got lost in the shuffle.
And Amityville Horror.
Stir of Echoes is great, from the screenwriter who did the Jurassic Park screenplay.

Probably the best drama/horror hybrid ever.
Fun fact: Haley Joel Osment was in the very first movie from Forrest Gump.
Unbreakable was also really good,, one of my favorite movies of all time. He plays a similarly reserved, quiet character.
Nobody expected that ending. Such a classic
Dasha, you were correct that "stuttering" means your voice gets caught on sounds and your mouth has trouble forming words easily. It's also a condition in adults, but is more often found in children, many of whom grow out of it or they have therapy to learn to form words differently or learn ways to move past it.
You should watch The King’s Speech.
I never was a Bruce Willis fan until this movie came out. My girlfriend at the time had make me go see it. After seeing it I had a whole new appreciation for Bruce and how good an actor he is.
That's how you know it's a masterpiece. No one see's it coming and it hits hard.
Thats why you should see Pay it forward, its the same kid and he acts amazing
Honestly the scene with them in the car just tears me up every time. Both of their performances are so amazing. When asks if she thinks he's a freak and her response is so real. Great movie, great reaction!
I remember watching this movie at the cinema. I didn't see the end coming. Looking back at the movie, I forgot how well the kid acted in this movie - very convincing.
All the cast did an awesome work. The mother of the kid in particular, in my opinion, made an astounding performance.
15:50 - That's the writer/director, M. Night Shyamalan, making a cameo appearance in his own movie as the doctor.
Which is weird. Because how did the kid know to put on a red sweater!
Some people also really liked The Village.
Some people liked Split.
both of these amazing movies
@@UTU49 Lady In The Water is my favorite Shyamalan film.
Also Keira's mother wearing that bright red suit at the funeral.
Agreed. Second hand lions is a great feel-good movie.
Agreed.
I only just watched Secondhand Lions recently and absolutely loved it!
I have a story related to this film ...
Some 20 years ago, I had sinus surgery to correct a deviated septum (a very minor condition). They had me on the operating table, and had administered a general anesthetic. They asked me to count down from ten, which is normal. You're usually unconscious by the time you hit 3.
Now I had plenned this, and kept my concentration long enough that as I lost consciousness, I said:
"I see dead people."
I dopped-off to the sound of the surgical staff laughing.
That's hilarious.
Though, I don't think I'd want to be operated on by giggling surgeons. Lol
I bet they still laugh about that one 😂
THAT IS FREAKIN' AWESOME
Nobody knew that he was dead. That was the incredible way the movie was written, directed, and acted. They managed to keep it a secret from all of us. What a twist!
Dasha, every person watching you react to this movie wishes we could go back and see it for the first time again. I saw this in theater with my wife. We were knocked breathless by the twist at the end. One of the best reveals in movie history IMHO. As always a great reaction. Peace.
Could you name a single other twist that's even in the same ballpark as this one? I don't think I could.
"My girl" from 1991
A absolute classic, and one of my favorite movies😊
Nobody picked up that Malcolm was dead. Even more amazing, nobody who saw the movie gave away spoilers. Everyone understood how nasty it would be to let the secret out. It was probably the best kept twist-ending secret in the history of cinema.
Imagine if the movie came out today
This movie and "The Crying Game."
@@kengruz669 I haven't seen Crying Game. I know the twist ending.
----------------------------SPOILER for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Below _____________________
(I wonder if that was the same a-hole who was yelling "DUMBLEDORE DIES!!!" a few years later)
Lololol
The doctor he's taken to after passing out in the cupboard was a cameo by director M. Night Shyamalan.
I saw this film in the theater when I was living in Philly. I remember all of the settings feeling so familiar which made it all the more terrifying.
Thats Forrest Gump Jr.!! This came out when I was 9 and I never made that connection until now lol
"His name's Forrest too?"
Great reaction, I knew you would enjoy this one! The acting and story is fantastic. The car scene with his mom is so moving.
the actress playing the mom blew me away in that scene as well as the kid. The acting in that scene is as good as it can possibly get, it felt so real.
wonderful reaction. This movie fools everyone until they get to the end. Really enjoyed it. Thank you
Cole raises his hand to answer teacher's question
Dasha happily: Oh look he knows the answer!
Me: Yeahhh don't get too excited...
The twist in this one at the end really got me! I had no clue all the way up to the reveal. Love it when movies can do that.
Goodness. She's so detail oriented, I was afraid she was going to figure it out halfway through. 😂
"Pay It Forward" is another great film starring Hayley Joel Osment.
Just an interesting fact: The doctor talking at 15:50 is M. Night Shyamalan, the writer and director of the movie.
I LOVED the film "SIGNS" by M Night Shamalayan... It's a movie that asks you "Do You Believe?"... Very deep.
i love that dasha can understand the movie from each characters pov and what motivates their actions.
good on you dasha.
This is what we all experienced back when this movie was first released. You made me think of that time
Haley Joel Osment, who plays Cole, was indeed beyond amazing in this.
I have seen this film many times, and always cry during the car seen with the mother and son talking about his grandmother.
I saw this at the cinema and the toilet walk scene shook the entire room. Great movie.
Вот это реакция! Утопаем в слезах... 🤧. "Иногда я вижу мёртвых людей"...
You have such a tender heart...
I came back to watch your reaction again and edit this, to make sure I told you that you have such a tender heart...
Guess I already said that...
What a movie, timeless classic!
Chilling scenes and performances.
The dog jump scare was hilarious
I’m so sorry but I always feel so bad for laughing every time you jump. You are a fantastic movie reactor. I also had to laugh at the title. “Snot crying” had me laughing before I even watched it 😂😂😂
that's not snot, that's tears coming down to the lips, it's fine! best reaction to this movie i've ever seen!
Thank you so much! Such an excellent synopsis and such compassionate yet wise comments.
Great reactions Dasha, thanks for sharing even when it is hard.
Whoever the kid in the beginning is. 2 minutes of unbelievable acting.
In these seconds, Donnie is playing 120% better than his brother Mark did in 10 years.
Great twist. One where everybody should have seen it coming, but none did (or very few). Roger Ebert, the most well-known film critic, said:
"I have to admit I was blind-sided by the ending.
The Dr that speaks to the mother I the white coat is the director and writer or the script.
We all cried and felt the pain. The dog scaring you with his bark was funny especially right after a jump scare 😁
Another great movie for someone that has not seen it before to do a reaction to.
I have a t-shirt that says "I see stupid people!"
That’s got to be exhausting!🤣
The girl, Mischa Barton, who played the Munchausen by Proxy victim, stars in two of my favorite movies, Lawn Dogs - 1997 and Skipped Parts - 2000. I was surprised, to learn that Vincent was played by Donnie Wahlberg.
