  • Charles Barkley explains why Michael Jordan is like a brother to him and when - as a NBA analyst on TNT - he upset Jordan by voicing an opinion that he wasn’t doing a good job as owner of the Charlotte Bobcats / Hornets. Barkley goes on to say it’s his job to remain honest on TV and that he thinks the relationship can be repaired.

    I met Barkley briefly many years ago, when he was playing for Phoenix. He was at the opening of his friend's restaurant, with a lot of other Suns players, and he was hanging out by the bar. I walked up and said hey, I've been a big fan for years, that kind of thing, and Sir Charles was, for the 30 seconds we talked, warm, kind, and friendly. He didn't have to be, and a lot of famous guys in his position aren't, but he was. He's a genuinely good guy, and I'm happy to see him having so much success as a broadcaster. He deserves it.

    I remember when I was a kid, that tension was REAL. Barkley liked to portrait himself as this big mean rude unstoppable force and Michael was the charismatic superhero that was going to win at the end. Later I realized MJ was awesome but ruthless, and Charles was a more relaxed cool guy than we used to think.

      I never thought about it this way but it is an interesting take. During those days it was indeed the case that MJ was the good guy and Barkley very much the bad guy. But in reality it was pretty much the other way around in terms of how they treated the people around them. Just goes to show how much different people may actually be compared to the way they are portrayed in the media.

      @@xdgirl5313 MJ won 6 chips because of many things including Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and Horace Grant. Barkley wasn't going to win anything in Philadelphia. If Barkley held out for a major team like Los Angeles or Houston, he would have at least a couple championships. Will Perdue won a championship with the Spurs. Doesn't make him better than Barkley. MJ is a textbook narcissist, perfectionist.

      @MANCHESTER UNITED F.C Sorry but soccer will never be as big as any of the major sports in America. No way!! We like manly battles between two opponents. Not running around, kicking a ball from each other while exxagerating our injuries. Falling down when someone elses shoe string brushes by you, pretending you just had a near death experience. Just to increase the dramatic effect and make your opponent look like a horrible piece of c*ap. While gaining a foul against them. No thanks..

    I personally met Charles many years ago at a bar in Santa Barbara. Every year during the off-season, Michael Jordan would have a basketball camp there and would bring along some of his buddies to keep him company. Charles likes to drink and have a good time and he was out on the main floor chatting with people and taking pictures. He even signed my basketball card of him which I have to this day. He then got on the microphone and announced to the entire bar of about 70 people that drinks were on him for the next five minutes. He was nice, genuine and extremely generous - qualities that you don't find in many people these days let alone celebrities. Thank you Charles for being yourself.

      Any person who ever says that they met Charles Barkley says that he was very kind and generous, and a great tipper, or you hear how Charles gave away lots of something, be it money or time or something, yet he says he is not a role model, and yet he exemplifies so many characteristics of someone you want your child to emulate, I myself am from the Philly area and we knew from day 1 that Charles was a great guy. A shame that their friendship ended the way it did, simply because of Michael's ego.
    Charles was probably the only true friend he had in the league, the rest were ass kissing him. Just look at the Oprah interview and tell me it aint so.
    come to your senses Mike! Embrace Chuck back! He s your only true homie.

    • @pierrecausemybladdersempty1678
      @pierrecausemybladdersempty1678 3 роки тому

      Charles ego is at play in this whole thing as well. Charles speaks his mind which is not the same as telling it like it is. He often times doesn't think of others at all, which is not a good trait to have. To think you can just go around saying whatever you want without considering others is just as egotistical. Now he was right about Charlotte, but he should know it isn't just Michael that runs the Hornets, it takes the whole organization all the way down to the practice players. He also didn't have to slam a friend behind his back on national television. I loved Charles as a player and love him on inside, but he has more in common with Trump than George Carlin when it comes to speaking on things.

    Hey Graham don't mind these stupid comments. I always watch clips of your interview especially with NBA players. Somehow, in your interviews they are quite honest and not answering questions "safely" (eg. Shaq interviews). You don't ask stupid questions and you let the interviewee know you did your homework before the interview which is quite professional.

    You can tell what kind of boss MJ is back then in Wizards. He traded Hamilton with Stackhouse which made them lose. And accidently made Pistons a great team. MJ is too stubborn and kind of mean. But still he is not a bad person, bad person wouldn't have great children, and we all know he is a good son to his parents, he is just not as good as people thought he was. Frankly, I don't think he like the public.

    For anyone to think Jordan needed to butter someone up so they wouldn't compete is fargin foolish. Not only would Jordan want you to compete he would make sure he gave you a beating on the court that you would never forget. Can you imagine Barkley and the Suns beating the Bulls, that would be the ultimate prize. They would be the only team in history to beat the Bulls in the finals and Barkley would be bragging about it for the rest of his life. The only buttering up was Barkley buttering up his biscuit

    • @lcarpetron6997

      I was a huge Suns fan during that time. Barkley was my favorite player. And you are right, he would have been bragging for the rest of his life.
