The problem with "don't haul cheap freight" is any given carrier can only hold out as long as they can afford to. I've held off on hauling loads for 3 mo because I refused to haul for dirt. But even after 3mo rates didn't change and now I'm forced to haul for less because there is always those carriers that will haul for free and don't stop pulling cheap. These brokers are literally laughing at me or saying my rate is absurd because they are consistently getting it moved for 1/3 or the rate.

I parked the truck, start my local 35 hour a week company driver job tomorrow morning. Five to noon, M-F... I started preparing for this day, the parking of the truck, when FJB was selected, as I knew this day was coming.
Guys that drive fuel guzzlers then complain about cost to me is perplexing. A truck is a tool and only a tool. Don’t put your faith in nothing but glitz and glam for prestige. Think bottom line and work and live that way. Live below your means.
GLAD TO HEAR SOMEONE TALKING ABOUT WHAT I PREACH EVERY DAY TO ALL MY CARRIERS. HOLD ON DON'T ACCEPT THE LOAD AND THE NEXT DAY THE BROKER WILL BE FORCED TO PAY BECAUSE THEY NEED TO MOVE IT. THESE PEOPLE HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY, DONT BELIEVE THAT CRAP THE MARKET IS BAD.
He is not saying don't haul cheap freight. He is saying don't haul for less than your cost. There is a difference. The outfits that haul below cost will start to disappear. Eventually rates will go up.
@@bellboy4074 so what is cheap freight then? I know oversized guys won't move for 5 bucks a mile. Their cost is around 2 but like to make a profit. Most guys eyes would bug out at 4 dollar a mile freight. But to some that is cheap. So don't haul less that cost. And don't haul less than what you want for the bother as well. I figure 3 bucks a mile and more is good enough for me, but wouldn't do oversize for that.
Bro as an indian myself im not hauling load under 2 dollor even in this market even though i stay out from home to get my price.. besides i have recently got in touch with so called American driver he was hauling same freight 2300 which i was hauling for 3400 for same lane.. i guess rather then passing a comment racially we should stand together and educate are fellow driver …
Many leave their family in India or Mexico. They send their family 50 bucks a week to live like the rich and drive for a pack of cigs and sandwich a day.
Customers have been paying more then they ever have and trucking companies have been doing the polar opposite. Should tell you a lot about the industry right now.
There has been a shortage of truck drivers for 40 years. The reason is, if all the freight is covered by drivers, shippers start driving down freight as low as it will go until no driver anywhere will take that load for that price. Sometimes savvy shippers will let freight sit for months if it's low priority fishing for a super low rate maybe a new operator etc. So prices always stay rock bottom the lowest anyone will work for. And then flood the industry with immigrants and give the immigrants subsidies so they can under bid everyone. Thats why.
My opinion is all of us independent contractors need to come together and form one company that we all have ownership in. Then we need to get our own brokerage and hire people to run the brokerage and the company. We all should be able to that we are comfortable with while putting back into the business. Our strength is in our numbers we are weak doing things on our own.
So true I was a broker with C.H. Robinson and I told all my carriers they need to know what their rpm to operate. Otherwise you will drive your business to the grown.
"Know YOUR bottom line" I won't undercut reasonable rates just to screw guys over. But there are a ton of drivers out there that are up to their eyeballs in debt from truck and trailer payments, expensive insurance on a terrible driving record, and the inability to live on a lower income than they did when times were good because they bought a big house and every toy they could. And those are the guys that are screeching the loudest right now. And those are the guys that I don't really care if their cash grab folds on itself.
There is an art to it , but bottom dollar rate then add 25% don't budge , let them counter offer , be polite and and hang up , you know you got em if they call right back , if they don't call right back ( within an hour) look for something else
My truck has been shut down and parked in my driveway for over a year. I went back company driving and even with them I do a backhaul from a broker for 2 dollars a mile. I make it a point to be late for most brokered loads and not answer any calls from a broker.
Turning down freight will do absolutely nothing because in the world of trucking what you won't do, someone else will...In my 25 years of driving, that has always been the case. If 80 percent of the drivers would simply shut down for two to three weeks, you not only minimize your financial loss, but you also get the authorities to come to the negotiation table at a faster rate. It's not rocket science people. It's simply hurting the supply enough to negatively affect the demand.
You have people coming here talking about you Americans are greedy. I’m sending my money back to my country so when I leave I’m fine. So they don’t care about American drivers.
I turned down two rescues today because one would have broken my reset and the other was a driver running out of his HOS but could not be bothered to drive 100 miles to reach his receiver. Nope.
You don't even need 80% of the drivers. All you need is to withdraw the drives who haul fuel. Nothing moves without fuel. It's too bad no one is willing to sacrifice and stand up for themselves anymore.
Guys, it's always discussed at some solution "shut down for 1+ week! Let's come together and bring something something and etc and halt".... Nothing ever happens. There is a constant revolving door of new drivers who come in, know nothing... Do it for a month or two and leave. They don't know better, they also seem happy working for 600$ paychecks. So, we, who have been at it for years, are complaining to each other, while the green clowns are working for free. The best and most sensible way in my opinion is to go through the laws. 1$ a mile should be made illegal and that's it. There has to be a minimum set by law. The rates must be made public by law. Scum brokers get 5-10% of the rate and it should also be made public. We are not in Healthcare. There is no expectation of privacy. Every transaction shipper , receiver, and carrier cannot expect privacy
"It's controlled by the drivers". Looool. Supply & demand. If there isn't enough demand for supply, you don't need drivers. How the hell do drivers control anything when all the big mega carriers are swallowing contracts and pricing the freight down?
Sometimes I think this industry is a race to the bottom, who can do it cheaper is all that matters. I hate complaining about rates and brokers because at the end of the day truckers/company owners are the reason the rates are low.
It's all more about monopolies. Like California switching too all EV and natural gas.....they know the mega carriers will stay and the smaller guys will leave. Everything is switching to contract and corporate fleets, and swift and then are taking the cheap stuff. I drive for Crete who is a higher pay carrier and for the AZ-TX regional I'm on, we used to frequent a certain frito lay plant in Dalls, but recently Schneider took over that run, and we all know schneider is one of the lowest paying mega carriers so they probably offered cheaper rates.
I m in Canada with 6 years experience driving Road Trains in Australia and got my AZ/CDL licence here. I m out of work because I m not accepting poverty wages and those second class companies tell me that I don’t have enough experience. Same companies are bringing people from Dubai, I m baffled if Dubai truckers have better safety standards than Australians. 😂 With increasing number of people converting wages in foreign exchange I doubt Industry is gonna be better any day. 😢
The first minute of this video is all you need to know. I've been driving for 31 years. This was discussed by Kevin Rutherford almost 20 years ago. Out of all the people who subscribe to this channel, 98% of you don't know your numbers. You have no idea what it costs you to run your truck. All you know is you have plenty of chrome, and a train horn.
Scnieder and jb hunt haul everything for anything. Try competing with that! That is the reason I lease on to a carrier especially in the North East lanes.
What is also very sad is carriers alter/edit load rate confirmation reducing the rate amount, it’s also called stealing some dollar, before sends it to the driver
McCallan, TX- to- Buffalo, NY, with a stop in OH for $4000. This isn't a rate problem this is Broker greed, and thousand of loads worse then this. I know some drivers have no choice but these brokers are dirtbags, and I am blessed to have my equipment paid off and don't have to except these joker rates.
If your mommy and daddy don't set you up you might consider deadheading to a better market. You may sit for a week waiting on a rate to come up. Find the good markets and run them always watching for market moves. Stay ahead of the game.
We need to go on strike for months and teach them this shit is not right let’s do this owner opp and mother trucker pls push this to max man we will appreciate you much love from tampa FLORIDA
The Rate people are hauling these days they would make more money working at a local job and being home everyday then staying out from your family for weeks then coming back home with nothing
The truck is beautiful but it's not practical. Especially in the flatbed industry. I like a truck I can work and not worry about scratches and shit. 315000 you never going to get ahead with that thing. It will be in the shop half the time.
Good old common sense 👍🏾 & I would also say this on these ridiculous truck prices 🚚💰💰💰 if we stop buying them then for those prices maybe they go down 🤷🏽♂️
You shouldn't run your entire operation off load boards on the spot market. You should only use it to supplement your regular food paying freight that you've acquired thru relationships. If you're booking loads off boards with ppl you have no relationship with then you'll get a market rate. It's not meant to rely completely on
Drivers must set out for 3 days or more, also you must email and call your Congress and Senators. I have a family members and friends that truck drivers.
OWNER-OPERATORS COMPLAIN ABOUT THE RATES. THE PROBLEM IS THEY KEEP ACCEPTING THIS LOW CHEAP FREIGHT. AS LONG AS EACH ONE OF YOU CONTINUE TO ACCEPT THEM IT WILL KEEP GETTING WORST. PLEASE GUYS DONT HAUL ESPECIALLY FOR TQL.
Truckers need a Union, a real trucker Union and these issues will be regulated by the union, here goes the EPA making rules, make your own body and abide by it. With everything going on what stopping it from happening.
everybody keeps saying don’t haul cheap freight but everybody is doing those cheap loads… you cant even het a load how fast it goes out of loadboards!!!
I am see a lot of large car Petercar about 1 year old at my local Pete dealership. I presume the owners bought them without knowing enough about cost per mile, rates and not having enough cash reserves for lean times and low rates? Refuse cheap freight or don’t make a profit at all and maybe lose money.
Everyone doesn’t work that way to hold out for each other the new drivers are coming on taking crumbs that was making it hard on you guys and they don’t even know how to use a Jake brake
this is true. i'm planning on start trucking here in tx pretty soon. the jobs market sucks right now. I already switched careers 3 times just to find work. trucking is my last resort just live and survive day to day. In other words... I have fully embraced the "pod living" agenda. I'd rather do it in a truck than a high rise. "you will own nothing and you'll like it"
We are well past don’t haul cheap freight. We all been singing that song for years now and no real change. Because that like the trucking for dummies 101. We need a real structure detailed plan. Like a good starting example who set up/fleet cost the most to maintain and operate should be where the bar starts at and that way everyone else should be well taken care of. Wishful thinking I know but we need a real plan to help each other before it’s to late.
Exactly all drivers including trainer driver gets standard pay at $5 mile no less and all driver need to make this a rule and stick to it They will know who's your boss And it's not them
Imagine if truckers got together and did what they did for the vacinne mandates to DEMAND better pay. Truckers are the only ones who have the power to actually change anything since society needs us.
Funny how the price of goods is through the roof, the price of fuel is through the roof, replacement parts, tires, but FREIGHT RATES are way down, and going lower. Hmmmmm
Same thing Uber did to limo / black car services. airport rides that we used to charge $100 in 2015 now Uber willcharges the rider $50 and driver gets $20
I don't know why everyone thinks owner-operators haul for these low rates. It's actually the small carriers that have drivers and have no other choice. I assume they are too small to be able to secure some decent contracts and are forced to stay in the spot market. They keep running at a loss hoping next month it will get better. If you have drivers you have to give them miles otherwise they quit. Parking their trucks is not an option when they have tens of thousands of dollars in bills every month. At some point, enough of them will fail and the market will balance. Until then the rates will stay low.
Everyone one wants to be owner operator leasing truck with high monthly payments. Every month them bills and cost of operations coming fast so the feel desperate to take whatever can keep them afloat or not get their equipment repo’d. Drivers than can sit days or do a load a week and make demands is some that paid his equipments off and have a good amount in saving account to sit out. But everyone gets a CDL and immediately runs to lease a truck without learning the business and the cost of operations
The biggest reason why hood trucks need $3-4 per mile while the "plastic" trucks only need $1.75 per mile is because the plastic trucks get better fuel milage which helps out in cheaper rated markets. Lower variable costs mean more profits. But economics and profiting through efficiency is hard for the old heads to understand because they were taught to run hard no matter the cost. I can tell you I'm still taking home 2500 a week when I run all because of efficiency. So know your bottom line but also know how to make money with less cost
Know your cost per mile do not pull loads that are less then you set if the some other people pull loads that is cheap they will not make it in the long run

The problem is all these new immigrants coming into the labor force willing to work for anything.
He is not saying don't haul cheap freight. He is saying don't haul for less than your cost. There is a difference. The outfits that haul below cost will start to disappear. Eventually rates will go up.
Yes, he is saying don't haul cheap freight.
Well said my brother let's set the rate before going back to hauling $3.00 minimum
yes please do, so I can under bid you and do it for 2.90.... get all that good freight. :)
if you hold out and the guy next to you holds out, tomorrow you bid against each other on that load and drop the rate anyway.🤣🤣😂
I think hundreds of thousands of Indians , Nigerians, and Russians coming here willing to work for dirt rates aren’t helping
Thry will all be wipe out very soon all these fools will go out bussiness and the market will level itself back up
Bro as an indian myself im not hauling load under 2 dollor even in this market even though i stay out from home to get my price.. besides i have recently got in touch with so called American driver he was hauling same freight 2300 which i was hauling for 3400 for same lane.. i guess rather then passing a comment racially we should stand together and educate are fellow driver …
Many leave their family in India or Mexico. They send their family 50 bucks a week to live like the rich and drive for a pack of cigs and sandwich a day.
Market of 300k trucks and 1 dollar freight 😂😂😂
Customers have been paying more then they ever have and trucking companies have been doing the polar opposite. Should tell you a lot about the industry right now.
Seriously, where all money goes 🤬
There has been a shortage of truck drivers for 40 years. The reason is, if all the freight is covered by drivers, shippers start driving down freight as low as it will go until no driver anywhere will take that load for that price. Sometimes savvy shippers will let freight sit for months if it's low priority fishing for a super low rate maybe a new operator etc. So prices always stay rock bottom the lowest anyone will work for. And then flood the industry with immigrants and give the immigrants subsidies so they can under bid everyone.
Thats why.
Not even just taking bad loads i don't even go to certain areas any more
That’s a lot of money to pay to look cool.
I was thinking the same thing, no wander he is bitching about rates. lmao
This driver owner is right on! Hold your freight rates where YOU want them.
To hell with that. I wouldn't want to be associated with all the clowns out here.
That's called a monopoly and is illegal. FTC wouldn't allow it.
You would form your own megacarrier owned by the drivers. Sounds good, like a credit union.
So true I was a broker with C.H. Robinson and I told all my carriers they need to know what their rpm to operate. Otherwise you will drive your business to the grown.
I think we need to start talking to the owners with the toes out. Y’all know what group of people taking the cheap freight.
"Know YOUR bottom line"
I won't undercut reasonable rates just to screw guys over.
Truckers should be able to set their rates. Only industry where the customer tells you what you what they’ll pay you. It just don’t make sense.
Agreed
The issue is, as soon as the rates move, someone will take it, so please let's set the mark$. $3.00
$317,500.00 😂😂😂Good luck.
Opens the video talking about how bad rates are then try’s to sell a 300k + truck 😂
317k years later he will still be trying to sell it
This is definitely one of the coolest videos I've seen you make
Appreciate you
Turning down freight will do absolutely nothing because in the world of trucking what you won't do, someone else will...In my 25 years of driving, that has always been the case.
If 80 percent of the drivers would simply shut down for two to three weeks, you not only minimize your financial loss, but you also get the authorities to come to the negotiation table at a faster rate. It's not rocket science people. It's simply hurting the supply enough to negatively affect the demand.
It will be a miracle if we can pull that off even with social media truck drivers can’t come together and fix this mess
Yep 💯 I agree. Stay with your rates or stay home with your lovelies! Screw brokers! Don't be a fool, Respect your self and your truck!
100% good way to fail...
Sell raffle tickets 500 or 1000 each for 8 mo. Seen it done with houses
With increasing number of people converting wages in foreign exchange I doubt Industry is gonna be better any day. 😢
Happy Easter 🐣 Everyone, Cleveland Tenn waivin a Hand 👋
The first minute of this video is all you need to know. I've been driving for 31 years. This was discussed by Kevin Rutherford almost 20 years ago. Out of all the people who subscribe to this channel, 98% of you don't know your numbers. You have no idea what it costs you to run your truck. All you know is you have plenty of chrome, and a train horn.
To think truckers are going to hold out from hauling cheap freight, when they need to stay alive, is absurd.
Scnieder and jb hunt haul everything for anything. Try competing with that! That is the reason I lease on to a carrier especially in the North East lanes.
I agree, the market is stupid right now and something needs to change!
Great interview!
Thank u
What is also very sad is carriers alter/edit load rate confirmation reducing the rate amount, it’s also called stealing some dollar, before sends it to the driver
McCallan, TX- to- Buffalo, NY, with a stop in OH for $4000. This isn't a rate problem this is Broker greed, and thousand of loads worse then this. I know some drivers have no choice but these brokers are dirtbags, and I am blessed to have my equipment paid off and don't have to except these joker rates.
What's a beautiful truck. I would have to say the engine painted the old school cummins color is amazing in that truck. And really a great price
If your mommy and daddy don't set you up you might consider deadheading to a better market. You may sit for a week waiting on a rate to come up. Find the good markets and run them always watching for market moves. Stay ahead of the game.
right! its a market.... they don't seem to understand how markets work
Hazmats and tankers, paid by the hour is the only way. They puttin' all that freight on trains. Let it go.
We need to go on strike for months and teach them this shit is not right let’s do this owner opp and mother trucker pls push this to max man we will appreciate you much love from tampa FLORIDA
Exactly thes3 newbies need to understand that last part.
Good old common sense 👍🏾 & I would also say this on these ridiculous truck prices 🚚💰💰💰 if we stop buying them then for those prices maybe they go down 🤷🏽♂️
It's not just the Drivers fualt the rates go down,it's other factors that play into the situation, like the market, economy the political situations.
super quiet at the port of los angeles today.
You shouldn't run your entire operation off load boards on the spot market. You should only use it to supplement your regular food paying freight that you've acquired thru relationships. If you're booking loads off boards with ppl you have no relationship with then you'll get a market rate. It's not meant to rely completely on
This is to all you drivers stop taking cheap loads. I repeat Stop taking cheap loads.
Drivers must set out for 3 days or more, also you must email and call your Congress and Senators.
I have a family members and friends that truck drivers.
Easy to say when bills pilling up
OWNER-OPERATORS COMPLAIN ABOUT THE RATES.
Work smarter not harder. Do less work for more money. Most people in trucking are on a race to the bottom and we need to turn this around.
everybody keeps saying don’t haul cheap freight but everybody is doing those cheap loads… you cant even het a load how fast it goes out of loadboards!!!
I am see a lot of large car Petercar about 1 year old at my local Pete dealership. I presume the owners bought them without knowing enough about cost per mile, rates and not having enough cash reserves for lean times and low rates? Refuse cheap freight or don’t make a profit at all and maybe lose money.
Too many foreigners working for pennies dirt cheap rates they will eventually go out bussiness and the ones that know what they doin will survive
Everyone doesn’t work that way to hold out for each other the new drivers are coming on taking crumbs that was making it hard on you guys and they don’t even know how to use a Jake brake
How do you use a brake jake ? Never knew there was a way to use it .
this is true. i'm planning on start trucking here in tx pretty soon. the jobs market sucks right now.
Exactly all drivers including trainer driver gets standard pay at $5 mile no less and all driver need to make this a rule and stick to it
They will know who's your boss
And it's not them
This is an old fashioned fight for market share, and the losers won’t be in the trucking business when it’s over.
Imagine if truckers got together and did what they did for the vacinne mandates to DEMAND better pay. Truckers are the only ones who have the power to actually change anything since society needs us.
Hey Alex sorry I missed you at MATS.
See you next time!!!!
I researched being an owner operator first. Thsts why I didn't buy a truck.
Funny how the price of goods is through the roof, the price of fuel is through the roof, replacement parts, tires, but FREIGHT RATES are way down, and going lower. Hmmmmm
Retired.
Damn glad of that, too.
Live and be well.
I would NEVER buy a new truck... Period! I buy pre-emission and rebuild it from the ground up. DONE. $175k - NOT over $300K.
Yeah everybody is saying it but there are a lot of penny hunters outthere
I don’t haul cheep freight 😮😮😮
Everyone one wants to be owner operator leasing truck with high monthly payments. Every month them bills and cost of operations coming fast so the feel desperate to take whatever can keep them afloat or not get their equipment repo’d. Drivers than can sit days or do a load a week and make demands is some that paid his equipments off and have a good amount in saving account to sit out. But everyone gets a CDL and immediately runs to lease a truck without learning the business and the cost of operations
Problem is always got guys that are takn the cheap loads
Facts....
Them drivers just pick anything.
There will always be snakes hauling cheap. The question is: What percentage of drivers would need to hold out to raise rates?
America is done this is only the truth. I’m going get out from this country as soon as possible.
It's all so simple but they won't do it. Smh
Know your cost per mile do not pull loads that are less then you set if the some other people pull loads that is cheap they will not make it in the long run
Sadly I pull freight for 1.30 a mile I’m lp and it’s not enough
Awesome Truck !! Definitely new subs on their channel 🔥
