Sad fact: Only 1K likes, extremely low.
I consider this song, as well as "Fracture", as the peak of genius and craftmanship. And while "Fracture" does it in noise and velocity, "Trio" does it in silence and peace. I admit, I still have to cry when I hear the Violin and the Melotron-Flute going higher and higher. And Wetton's bass too. And Bruford was assisting with his sticks crossed around his chest. Wonder & Beauty, they have a name.

it’s extremely difficult to put into words what this song means to me .. i’ve had it a part of my life for years now, and to this day it’s the most mind-clearing, reorienting song i’ve ever heard in my life. it’s an absolute mental refreshment that always grounds me in reality and reflect on where i’m at in life.
i know to many it’s just a simple improv, but there’s an unmistakeable beauty in this simplicity that always has a profound effect on me emotionally. music is powerful, man.

Those two things I love about the band & this iteration do NOT appear on this song... Wetton still plays bass strings but does not sing & Bruford was mixing the sweet ice tea for break time... in other words very christian & holy... the song you love doesn't have the things you like most about the band... very counter-intuitive very JESUS like!

This was improvised at a show at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam (November 23, 1973). What happened is that, while the other three were playing, Bruford just sat there and waited for the right moment to join in. Eventually, he realized that the best time was no time at all, so he sat with his drumsticks crossed on his chest for the rest of the piece. If I remember correctly, he said later that knowing when _not_ to play is just as important for a musician as knowing when to play.
