You describe exactly how on first ride, I took my wife’s horse into a tree and under branches that swept me off. Pulled rein so he was flexed left, but after he stepped right I was turned and staring at the tree. He did exactly what my seat told him, going sideways under the tree.
Always try to reduce The que to see how little you need to do to get a respons is very rewarding and makes Your horse very responsive over time - I like this approach in this video
Absolutely excellent video! Such a clear and concise explanation and demonstration of leg cues and the reasoning behind the concepts! This is the best and most informative and helpful video on the subject I've seen (out of the bazillions I've watched). Thanks so much! Can't wait to see your next one!
Start with forward. Once you have forward cues with your legs to a place where the horse isn’t bracing you can start to work on lateral. I’ll try and use one leg at a time and just feel for their body to soften if they are struggling. A lot of times we will get to kicking to hard and they will just shut down. So just try and get those feet to yield to yours a touch then rinse and repeat.
This has got to be the best most explanitory video on this topic I've came across thus far. Thank you sir. Like and subscribed
Great video. Thanks for showing the progression from beginning to advanced.
I’m saving this video. I need this refresher like once a month. Lol
I want to see this done on a horse that doesn't know any of this yet, and how you initially teach these cues.
Two years and only 17 comments!
At least I can add one for the algorithm.
Very easy to understand, Tristan, the way you break it down into small pieces is amazing and so helpful!

Amazing explanation! It's so satisfying to see horsemanship so smooth and soft without getting the boxing gloves out

This is one of the most incredibly helpful videos I’ve ever seen on leg cues. Hope you get more subscribers, you definitely deserve it.
The best demonstration and communication of these principles that I’ve seen. Very helpful!

Awesome video. Lots of great information
Good video thanks.
I can drive a stick shift, so this will eventually come naturally, too, with a lot of practice. I’m thinking.
You betcha!
How do you get a nice stop like that?
👍
How do you train a horse to move off of your leg? I’m trying to train my 6 year old but I’m not sure how to make her understand what I’m asking.
