Mike I did the same and installed a drain in the floor and unbeknownst to me, the floor drain check valve was obstructed with lint and …. I met the water at the bottom of my stairs in the similar way… burn! Thanks for continuing your uploads!
Love the mug in the back ground. ❤ Miss not seeing you but I can see the videos. How is the family? Have a safe journey back and forth on your travels . ❤
Smart move on having a drain next to your washer and dish washer. I had this in one house. Never was needed but if a water line broke on the main floor, the whole floor would not get wiped out.
I used to run my own plumbing company and I can't count how many times I had frozen sewers in trailers! Freezes at Tank or between house and tank or plugs and people keep using water and then don't notice til it's right plugged and sometimes freezes! Not fun!
Mike should install some leak sensors connected to automatic valve shut off. Cost of that is below $100, saves easy more. Talking from my own experience...
That's a rough thing to wake up to. Hopefully insurance isn't a pain to deal with. Probably going to be a bunch of drywall having to get cut out and replaced. It's amazing how much water wicks up the walls.
There is absolutely no structural or drywall reason to keep a house at 20c year round. A few degrees above the outside dew-point is all you need to keep moisture issues away, basically just match the mid-day high temp. A high interior temp and cold outside will maximize the strain from the thermal expansion differential in any case. Of course 5c is about the minimum if you have pipe freezing concerns(Exact min temp will vary with actual construction and outside temp. parameters.).
At least you were up north at your brother in laws place when the water issue happened because the recent weather conditions in the Swift Current area that shut down numerous highways could have stopped you from being available to help out.
I learned to shut the water off when leaving for even a weekend in the winter. We were gone for 2 days, bathroom is over crawl space (horrible), access door got torn open by critters trying to get in, below zero (F) wind blowing towards access door, came home to water heater running and stream of water across basement floor from crawl space to drain and cracked hot water pipe under bathroom. Now it's part of the checklist to shut water off before leaving over night. And we don't get near as cold here in Indiana as up there.
When you were building the new house did you think of thermal heating through out the hole house or wasn't it a feasibly option. If it's feasible could you retrofit it. It's used a lot in snow countries in Europe.
It’s not a good day when you wake up to mechanical problems in your house. I hope everything cleans up decent and the insurance company is fair to deal with. Thanks for the Videos, Mike.
We built a new home ~25 years ago. When the house was about 10 years old we had 3 water leaks within 2 weeks. We got really lucky with one of them, for some strange reason my wife went into the basement about midnight and heard it just after it started. After that, we always turned the water off if we went away for even one night.
Man that that sucks, here i thought when my furnace quit for a week was bad, it took so long due to waiting on parts. -20 -25 outside, 3 little heaters kept the house at 14-15 degrees, i got tired of shivering so i added 4 more. Now watching your video my issue wasn’t bad at all. Hopefully there’s not too much damage 😢
This happened twice in our old house the sink exploded and it flooded the house then in our new house We got hit with torrential record rain and it flooded are kitchen...
my tank is lower than my house, but the shit still went up the inspection hole thru the pipe and into the house. its an older system so maybe its not done 100% right.
Don't say that Mike lol we we're living out of town and we had a drain field for the sewer and we had a split level home and wife caught it on time when she was washing clothes and the sewer started to come up the sewer drain, went outside to the sewer tank and it was full. So I pull the pump out and check it and it went bad so bought a new one and it worked until we sold the place. Sorry that happened to you but a person just never know. When we are gone for a few day's we will shut off the main water in case water break also.
Nothing worse than a brand new build basement flooding during a thaw because a plumber misrouted the sump pipes causing it to stick off. Then builder says not my fault.
Whats the name of the Gen set you have running your fans and other things at the north farm. Where did you get them, farm sale or dealer. I need of them
I thought you had a Sask Power connection finally at the north farm bin site. Were you running the larger generator because you needed 3 phase power for the bin fans ?
Mike: (1) When I built my house I put a 4 " drain pipe under the basement that goes out under the yard and drains out the side of the bank; and the basement floor has four drain holes to feed it: (put wire mesh on the end to keep mice coming up the pipe): so far, dry as a bone. (2) Buy yourself either a real big round thermometer or a very large vertical lawn thermometer (I got mine from Co-op) and install it about a foot or two inside the window: that way when you drive by your green house you can see the temperature in there. No need to unlock door.

I put a drain in my main floor laundry room as well.. just a little thing that made sense

So true about keeping the heat on in your new house !!
Sorry to hear about the flood. Had that happen to us when I was a kid.
Leak sensors are great. 👍 Make sure it also shuts off the water supply. Within seconds mine is shut off.
The cheap ones work fine too, would've probably saved Mike's basement in this case.
@ Yes any system is better than no system.
Mike the only way you are guaranteed to not have any Sewage problems is to install a Backflow valve.
Or not have any sewage at all😂
I used to run my own plumbing company and I can't count how many times I had frozen sewers in trailers! Freezes at Tank or between house and tank or plugs and people keep using water and then don't notice til it's right plugged and sometimes freezes! Not fun!
Built a new house in 2016, three bathrooms, the kitchen (in bottom of sink, dishwasher area and the laundry all have floor drains.

Ol' trucks looking like it's had a rough go. Tailgate, windsheild. Holy cow that's tuff country up there!
Thought the same thing. Missing antenna and busted drivers side mirror as well!!
That’s nothing
What a pain. I bought an industrial dehumidifier after my last water mishap. You can borrow it, but you have to pick it up!
A nice ice rink in the basement. Open the windows. Time to go ice skating.
Now that sounds fun..😂😂 I haven't gone ice skating in years...❤
Good luck with the house. That is a bummer. 🙁
Thanks Mike for The update I was just watching You & Brian You filling & Brian going plane spraying & you had a home made Biscuit Sandwich Awesome
We’ve had heck of a time with our shitter system. I bought a 1978 ford vacuum truck to pump it out often. Everyone gets mad but I dont really care
I worked away during the week for ten years always shut water off in the house
At least you were up north at your brother in laws place when the water issue happened because the recent weather conditions in the Swift Current area that shut down numerous highways could have stopped you from being available to help out.
Geshhh Mike so sorry to hear that, what a mess

It sounds like simply safe company
Great video Mike

@douglasmayherjr.5733 highly doubt insurance would cover that, I would not claim it.
Why I'll never have a basement. Just build more space above ground.

Im in Sweden and have a drain to where the waterline comes in. Maybe cant handle everything if it breaks but better than nothing. 👍
We hate winter too. Just cannot afford to spend our winter in Australia's summer.
Salut Mike magnifique vidéo et eau dans la maison 🏠 😢😂😅😮

It was a lot warmer in the semi hauling grain so i put in 18 hrs a day just to stay warmer 😅
Mike your truck floor is muddy😮
Sadly insurance will only 10 k max for water damage.
This happened twice in our old house the sink exploded and it flooded the house then in our new house We got hit with torrential record rain and it flooded are kitchen...
This is why i said it was a gd idea not putting in basement in the new house
Never had a flooded basement in 50 plus years
Change out for sensors that will shut off supply
We actually have that at the south farm, Ashtyn reminded me.. But yes, need them everywhere!
Oh my Mike Love ya bra but Shitooski floods r just bad bad bad bad best wishes my freind & merry Christmas
my tank is lower than my house, but the shit still went up the inspection hole thru the pipe and into the house. its an older system so maybe its not done 100% right.
Simply safe water monitor would have notified you, watch Millennial Farmer.
Lol! Independent reviews on simple Safe was not very good from the ones I read lol! But they do advertise a lot with UA-camr
Morning

Get a thermostat that you can check on your phone!
Not good when your feet get wet in the house and you aren't in the shower.😥
Forget fendt, get ahold of simply safe for an ad read and some free merch.
I dont think theyre in canada

Mike, what's the name of the monitoring system that you have? I'm looking for a system that you described in the video.
Whats the name of the Gen set you have running your fans and other things at the north farm. Where did you get them, farm sale or dealer. I need of them
There is a lot of repair work ahead I'm afraid.
Only way Mike to not have a sewer problem is have a long drop out in the yard 😜👍
I thought you had a Sask Power connection finally at the north farm bin site. Were you running the larger generator because you needed 3 phase power for the bin fans ?
He has power. Looks like the new bins are just not hooked up
Mostly those canola bins are not hooked up to the main yet
Get water out and get dehumidifiers running
Mike question how much house do you have? You have several, that’s a lot!
👍
Mike are you seeding Lgls, sgls or red lentils this year? What do you think is best for SW SK?
Ok. That episode was a bit weird... 🏊
Man dont even speak about a w***r break..... It haunts my dreams on our houses
👋🏼😎
YUCK!!!!
It's a little m mm mm moist as another Y tuber from the south would say.
MN Millennial farmer… love that guy. 😂

First
What’s your point
Shouldn't it be Flooded ! , or Flooded #$%$#%$, not Flooded?
I always try to do the opposite of what "UA-camrs" do... I like to stay low key 🙂
