We put this matchup into our head-to-head pool because they're both high proof Kentucky bourbons with large age statements (14 years for Proprietor, 12 years for ECBP) but have a rather large price disparity between them. We wanted to see if Lucky Seven was worth twice the price of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof.

Love comparing these two. Notes are spot on. I’ve built a small stockpile of L7.
I was trying to follow Erin's logic. She gave each of them a thumbs up initially and said it would just come down to price and availability. The prices are revealed with glass #1 being almost 2x and she downgrades glass #2. 🤔 Seems like glass #1 was really a 👍👍 for Erin.
I am going to have to look for the Lucky 7 now after seeing this review. I have enjoyed the recent ECBPs a lot, so for the Lucky 7 to be such a clear winner in your reviews, even at almost twice the price, makes it a must find. Cheers!
Keep an eye out locally but also check the Lucky Seven website. They stock is periodically and you can get it shipped right to your door.
…and the L7 Holiday toast actually won two blinds for our crew (lower proof and not a typical toasted bourbon) of all L7 samples, 3 14 yr, 2 12yr proprietor and holdup versions….

The best move with Lucky Seven is to check their website. They stock them from time to time and will ship almost anywhere.
Damn. I saw it the other day and passed on it because it was $137 pre tax. I did pick up both ECBP A121 and C922 in that same time frame though. No ragerts.

Glad you got on the L7 train, I remember a Patreon blind (Yr 1) where Experienced Old Whiskey Guy hooked me and I finished a 12yr I put up against any ECBP as well! It will be by the fire-pit 😁

After you guys get through your head to head blinds.. you guys should go with matches of 3 (or do a winners circle for a few stellar samples out of the pit).

Lucky7 must be really good! Last video you all said $90 was too much for a bottle you really liked, but with this you are both ok with $150
High proof, high age-stated bourbon vs much lower proof international whiskey is what's at play there. Not many bottles can give the well crafted high proof experience that this particular Lucky Seven can, whereas it's not as difficult to find quality international whisk(e)ys for less than the Kavalan Concertmaster.
ahh well. I can't get either of these bottlings in my area at retail so no go for me. both sound really interesting. For me I always think the EC BP B5 bottles are the ones with different flavor vs the other releases.

You guys should take Josh's outtakes from his tastings where he's getting excited about the taste of these and saying dumb stuff. Put those outtakes right after the part where you say "we're going to take a few minutes with these pours." Would be funny, but it's also relevant info actually.
Josh liked glass 1 so much he couldn't give Erin the last sip to compare😂😂😂. Something about Elijah Craig just has never jived with me, it's just an affordable high proof bourbon

Lucky Seven is HP Barton's if I remember, like so many other newbie brands.
So true. The 14 Year Proprietor is a bit of an outlier due to the age though.
I’ve never had Lucky 7, it’s not distributed in WI. Would love the 14yr, love Barton. Big fan of ECBP though especially given the 70-80 price point.
Be sure to check Lucky Seven's website from time to time. They periodically restock and you can get it shipped directly to your door.

Great call. We do need to get some Peerless in the sample pools. We've tried very little and don't have any bottles ourselves.
I love the ECBPs, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about the Lucky Seven. I just can’t find the 14 year here.

Good eye. We did stop doing it as we wanted to simply the scoring. We're working toward all our videos having the new simplified scoring where we give the glass(es) an overall rating based on whether we like it, love it, could take it or leave it, or flat out don't like it, then after finding out the price we see if that changes our rating and whether we'd actually buy it or not. Still speaking to all the same things but just not individually scoring the nose, flavor, and experience separately.

Ran into a Elijah Craig private barrel I think it’s great ! Anybody else tried it?
We've had a few. Almost all have been quite good, but one was very char heavy and not to our profile preferences. At the end of the day they're fun regardless. Glad to hear yours is a winner!
Interestingly I have both of these but yet to try. My L7 is Barrel 47. 118.8. What was your barrel#
Our bottle is 69 (128.5 proof) but this was a friends and it looks like 15 (119 proof).

This is some cruel sign.. just lastnight I passed on another lucky 7 14yr and haven't stopped thinking about it. But the budget was limping after just buying 2 Starwards, the new Found North 006 (your fault )and my first Fourgate within 10 days lol. The lucky 7s are soooo good though.
That would give us pause after those scores as well. Found North Batch 006 is a big winner for sure. Which Four Gate?
