Nice information about the pulpwood. Didn't hear you say if you used a stain or something to give them the reddish brown color or if that was natural. I think natural maple would be more of a gray color. Also, not being a prototypical guy, I kitbashed several Tyco pulpwood cars and freelanced paint colors and decals to finish them. This is what I have needed to learn in order to replace the plastic pulpwood provided by Tyco. My fleet of pulpwood cars is a mix of Athearn, Atlas, Tyco, and Revell. I seem to remember that MEC's cars were a mixture of different sizes and styles.
Thank you for watching. No, I didn't stain the wood, just sealed it with some water based urethane. Actually, maple wood is tan, not gray. If it's gray then it's been sitting, drying for a long time. Fresh wood is tan/buff color. Yes, MEC had several styles of cars, including this former gondola, then there's one style very similar to the Atlas pulpwood car (ends about 2' scale higher), there were some similar to the Walthers 55' pulpwood car, and of course the 70' cars with the bulkhead in the middle (so-called Paul Bunyon cars). Best of luck.
