2020's Marvel's Avengers had the potential to be the best superhero action adventure game of ALL TIME. With a $200,000,000 estimated budget, it was set up for success on nearly every single level, but it completely flopped and was shut down shortly after it's release. So, what happened to Marvel's Avengers?

Yeah, Now I remember this lackluster game...
The hype around it was something else man.
And then it all came tumbling down.
Alas, a story that a lot of games share.
They should have made games for each individual hero, one at a time, using the same engine (cheaper that way), then made a team up game if they sold well.
ehh, I feel like that would've taken AGES and I'd rather get a team game than have to play the hawkeye/black widow game to understand this one. The problem is, they never prioritized making their team game FUN
Honestly I don’t think this would be a great way to go about it in games, that would’ve taken forEVER to come out with 5 games to then get to an Avengers game. I think if this game had succeeded then building off of it to flesh out the universe better would’ve been a good plan
Square Enix and a game that sold millions but failed to meet financial expectations, name a more iconic duo.
Something you didn't mention, this was also that weird period when Marvel was trying to push the Inhumans as a replacement for mutants.
So, y'know, that probably didn't help the game either.
Didn't bother with it. Would've preferred a single-player game centered on one hero.
You just described the guardians of the galaxy game.
hello RoboKast, can you do a review on Audition Online, it's a dance video game please 🙏🙏🙏
I didn’t even know there was an Avengers game.
Well now you know why
lol
Still playable today if you own it 1:17
I do:3)
ChatGPT script let him down on this one
I’m still mad that I paid full price for Avengers and Suicide Squad and got Guardians of the Galaxy for free
Compairing this game's character designs with Marvel Rivals is night and day
Despite all it's flaws... the combat was spectacular. Each character once upgraded was super fun to play with. I loved it.
0:08 im going to let you in on a little secret. The avengers weren't really that cool. Disney messed everything up as they have been doing for a while now and the scavengers is one. Even before that i think the "hype" was artificially inflated to cause more interest. The game failed because it was build on failure itself
As soon as I heard it was going to be focused on Kamala Khan, I was out. They keep trying to make her "happen" and it just never works.
its already worked. several times. like it or not, shes a household name now.
@@ItsOver9000Productions Is she? The TV show and movie with her was forgetable.
@@japhetaguirre4880 TV show did well and her first comic series sold like gang busters and has made many appearances in tv and comic events. Plus the video game of course
I think the game still works if you have it. I do so I’ll have to try it out.
I think the multiplayer coop choice was not a good thing, story wise. Wish it was a singleplayer focused on the story.
built new building to create this game… daaamn, they didn’t know they can find already built one? no wonder game flopped. Esp. considering it was coronavirus era and everyone was working from home
since when do collectibles and skin increase the "depth" of a game? lmao
hey look, ANOTHER great reason to sail the high seas
It got waaay worse reception that it should have. It was an OK game if you like Marvel in general and wanted a bit of mindless fun. Story was short, but it wasn't bad, and gameplay loop was simple but effective.
It was not a bad game, but it wasn't the awesome juggernaut that it wanted to be and people expected.
I disagree. What you just described sounds awful. A full-price AAA game that has a short story mode and endless grinding. This game was poor development, microtransactions, an unbalanced cast of playable characters, and an uninspired story.
@@calumhouston3308 Oh, i should have been more specific maybe. You're right that as a AAA product it was a failure, but as a heavily discounted game, or even included on GamePass, it was worth a while.
I mean, if i paid 60$ or more for this game, i would have been really pissed. But as i paid i think it was 5-10$ for it, i thought it was nice.
This needed to be a GTAV size hit but ended up being another Concord.
It's nowhere close to the failure that is Concord, that game couldn't even draw in 1,000 players at it's peak. The Avengers game at least has good combat, and some good ideas thrown in with the mediocre repetition of the missions that you had to redo over and over after the story was complete.
This game lasted 3 years while Concord only lasted 2 weeks lmao 🤣, they are not in the same ballpark of failure.
They could have at little things like a new skill tree for Captain America where you can wield mjolnir or four could use stormbreaker instead of mjolnir. More Heroes PvP Mode where you can shoes between Heroes and villains. Or even Arena mode.
They should have departed from the MCU, but then people would criticize them for not using MCU-synergy
I'm a simple man. I see a new game coming out, find out it's published by square enix. Instantly losing interest.
Deus Ex died for this nonsense
Where they brought in their main devs from makes it clear where the problems started.
8:59 "A Warframe-like playstyle"* :)
I played the PS4 version of this back in 2023 before it was delisted and while I do see the bones of something half-decent, it ended up being the most tedious and boring looter brawler I've ever played. Even without the microtransactions at the time of playing it, it reeked of live service slop. The overall game as I said was so boring to play sans a few decent moments.
Projected profits are not real profits and shouldn't be a measure of success. Stop trying to predict the future. Maybe if you released it for free like Marvel Rivals it would have reached a wider audience. You can't sell a game, fail to deliver content and expect to be successful. Also, tell Sony that they're being stupid when they keep the most popular character (Spider-Man) to Playstation only, DUH! 🙄
Great video man. So entertaining
Glad you enjoyed it!
Or, in the words of conservatives:
"The character designs are too woke and lacking in traditional attractiveness".
Alteori even made a 14 minute video comparing this game with Marvel Rivals in a "Chad vs Virgin" style of comedy.
From what I've seen; it's a series of good ideas pieced together badly along with some poorer ideas.
Yeah I’d say it was a bit of a mess, you’re not wrong
I WILL NOT tolerate Ultimate Alliance slander 💯
Character upgrades and level up was awesome.. for me the same bad guys to fight made it repetitive.. esp when marvel has villains all day , wrecking crew, serpent society etc.. I played the game heavy and loved the photo mode
They got all the ingredients for greatness but fucked up
I'm thinking about playing it (Only Single Player)
I played it a ton in single player. It’s great honestly
@joeivo911 Yeah Single Player will be worth it I believe. Either way I'm just a completionist who loves to complete all single player games.
I might have to find a steam account to play it some day
Lol
i platinumed the game so i guess i got my moneys worth since i did everything in the game
Another dog water live service.
I liked the I jus wished it was different enemies to fight besides the same robots
OneyPlays single handedly tanked this shit game
I really enjoyed Marvel Avengers
I got it on sale the best game I played back then but I was new to gaming
I bought the ultimate edition for 1.99 usd
And still a better game than suicide squad kill the Justice League 😂😂
War thunder ?
Okay, so I guess the game is just bad^^
200 million CHRIST
I love this game actually. Wish it was still going strong.
It's very good and people are still playing it, it's the devs who simply gave up on it just because some incels gave it a bad review
Answer: It was made by western DEI hires. Done.
Exactly. Better suited at the faa.
No plane crashes until you fired them all
This game came out before that whole DEI hire argument was even a thing, so you can't blame DEI for this game.
@@iraford5788 that is incorrect. The argument has been ongoing for many years, it just became mainstream recently due to some massive flops that have gone viral.
@@PatrickMartinez1Still correlation doesn't equal causation. You can no consultants and still be terrible.
