    Got my 04 VT1100C December 15, 2014 with ONLY 2800 miles on it. Commute 150 miles/day (Wilmington Delaware - Baltimore) all year round. It just turned 51,500 miles (November 2017). Got a huge windshield and hand deflectors for 30F weather. Electric gloves make it possible too.
    Guy I bought it from let it sit for 10 years in garage. Carbs rebuilt, ran like new. I change oil every 3K like religion. Change shaft oil every 3rd oil change. Changed tires, battery, breaks, air filter, and plugs, as required. My ride is almost all I95. It is most comfortable bike I ever had. It cruises easily at 72-75 MPH, BUT 80 is no sweat. Also, it is small enough to run round-town errands for work. It has never let me down but it owes me nothing if it did. It gets in the mid to high 40's for mpg which saves me lots of $.
    I'm not a show-off, Billy Badass Biker, or racer. Just a 60 year old commuter on a very reliable solid, easy to handle ride. I drool over new bikes but only have room for one 2-wheeled mistress. I'll keep her until death us do part! 😜

    One of the best bikes ever built. No, you don't need a tach, there's a rev limiter incase you over-rev it but you don't need to wind it out that far anyway. It's a great bike for long trips too. Very comfortable on the long haul. I do 5000+ mile trips on mine.

    Bought my 1999 honda shadow spirit 1100 with 7300miles for $2950 just over a month ago. Absolutely love it. Its nearly pristine and Ive enjoyed every minute on it. Loads of power when you want it but its great for country road cruising and so long you don't lug the motor it does really well with gas milage. *45-50mpg at around 55mph*. Exactly as Sean says...handle bars may look goofy to some but its comfortable and the suspension is nice. Grease the gear splines everytime the rear tire is off *see manual for proper lubricants* moly60 I think. And along with regular oil/diff oil changes/normal maintenance this bike will last you a very long time.

      Also, you may want to run non ethanol fuel. I just sold a 1985 1100 (first year they built the shadow in 1100), and bought on just like this. Essentially exactly like this. I'm moving the rear signals to the license plate frame (kit job), and putting full-sized saddlebags on it. I'm also putting a full-size windshield (because I'm an old fart and don't like the wind any more -- 6 eye surgeries does that). Also, I just added a tachometer to mine. It's getting sweeter every day. The odometer didn't work when I got it so I bought a new speedometer off eBay and took the guts out of it and put them on this bike. I have no idea how many miles this bike has. It's not on the original rubber, so I suspect it's in the high 30s to mid 40s...
      I messed up the wiring though, and the signals aren't working, so gotta figure out how I did that. I did the same mods to the old bike and had no problems at all. Somebody cut the seat, so I will either fork out a C-note for an eBay used seat, or patch it with a vinyl patch kit I have laying around. It's a heat activated kit, so it would do the job quite will, or so I've heard. Any opinions would be welcome. I have a video on my youtube channel (This Old Man 1955) about what I've done so far, so leave a comment there about what you think. I don't mention the seat in it, maybe... Hmmm. That is a part 1, so when I'm done I'll post the part 2 finish video.
      Love the bike though. I've ridden it a lot already, until this winter. It's garaged and in my working area. My wife has me doing sos many projects I don't know when I can finish it. Gotta do it though.

      Get he Spirit (97-07) or the Sabre. I like the Spirit as it is the only bike that does best at highway speeds 14% higher gearing than all the others. If you just want low speed power than get the Sabre.

    Those engines are bullet proof too. I run mine 80 mph, all day long I have a '96 VT1100 with the 4 speed. The 5 speed didn't come out until 1997. Been all over the US on mine and would do it again. If anything needs to be improved on these bikes is the charging system has a piss poor regulator. I changed mine to a Mosfet regulator and it charges better. Sends more juice to the battery and run a hell of a lot cooler than the stock regulator did. That's about the only thing that needed any improvement on mine. I still have the original brake pads on mine (front and rear) with 62,000 miles on it. That bike is well worth the $2500 asking price and it will last you the rest of your life!!

    • @jimthvac100

      the 1100 has a lot more power than the 600. 600 tops ot around 80 the 1100 around 107 or so. ALso if you want to ride two up the 1100 much better. If you just want a bike to commute to work 600 will do better on gas 56 vs 45. I prefer the 1100 more leg room and passing power. You may get bored on the smaller 600

    Which do you think is a better bike the 1100 shadow or 1100 vstar?

    • @brandongonzalez9968
      @brandongonzalez9968 7 років тому +5

      Jared Young I know you're not really asking me but I was asking myself the same question a few months ago before deciding on the Shadow. Reasons being: the Shadow has a bit more torque even though it shares the same cc's as the Yamaha, it requires less maintenance (shaft drive vs belt drive on the Yamaha), and oil changes are a lot easier, because you need to remove the entire exhaust pipe assembly in order to reach the oil filter (on the Yamaha).
      That being said, the V star wins in the style department. Not gonna lie there. Ultimately it depends on what you're looking for out of your bike. Want to look awesome? Yamaha. Want a bike you don't need to wrench on as often? Honda.
      Hope this helps.

    • @brandongonzalez9968
      @brandongonzalez9968 7 років тому +2

      It's a valid opinion! I think what I meant by V-Star winning in the style department really has to do with customization. Having owned the Shadow now for seven months, I can honestly say its very difficult to find parts for it, whereas the V-Stars seems to have custom parts made for them by the boatload. I get turned away from many stores simply because they don't have the parts for the Shadow! All in all though I'd still choose the Shadow any day of the week, it's a great machine that does almost everything well.

      The V-Star 1100 is known to have serious shaft issues after 20k miles. Odd, since Yamaha cruisers are known for superior reliability. To be fair, I'm a satisfied Honda Shadow Sabre 1100 owner., Great bike.

    I have a 2003 1100 Shadow Spirit and this video is correct. I love my bike, smooth comfortable and has never once left me stranded. Its like riding a lazyboy recliner down the road. The 1100 engine has plenty of pep. I wish mine had a larger fuel tank and a gas gauge but its not hard to track your miles. It only has 6500miles on it and i have not intention of getting rid of anytime soon.

    • @randyjohnson6536

      Funny you should say it's like a "lazy boy". I have a really bad lumbar, L4, L5 and S1 vertabre and I put a operator back support on mine, it cost about $150 but that did the trick. I said the same thing, the ride was already pretty good but when I did that it was like riding a "lazy boy". Great bike.

      Lee, I am 6"6' and this is one of the only bikes that fits me without having to do any mods or changes to. They are virtually maintenance free, have plenty of power and have so much clearance the only way you would ever scrap the foot pegs is if you actually lay the bike down flat on the road!! They are extremely enjoyable to ride and with the big oversized fat seat you can ride all day without any problems. They have forward controls so perfect for us tall guys.Go check one out, sit on it, get a feel for it, Highly recommended!Ride Safe.

      I had a 750 Shadow, It is for short people (unless you add extended forward controls) my knees were always hitting the tank (probably because the seat on the 750 was about 2" shorter than the 1100) and I am only 5'10" the VT1100C was much more comfortable could stretch my legs out much better and not getting hit against the tank.

    • @karlwarner

      personally i like the 1100 better cuz the 750 just doesn’t have the power you want. i think they make somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 hrspwr which is decent but if you’re touring it can be buzzy.
