The most amazing part is playing the chord progression while trying to sing is more than what pearl jam actually does, Eddie provides the vocals, Stone Gossard provides the guitar but combining the two as one person is a feat that most can't accomplish. Bravo, you nailed it.
nah man, it’s just about practice. if he’s sung it and practiced it enough it’s just muscle memory. thats how people usually makes covers of both playing guitar and singing. no doubt this man has a crazy amount of talent, hands down, but in theory it’s not that hard.
@@eadue bish please... He plays the rhythm guitar, lead guitar and vocal all at once. While keeping the rhythm going emulating the drums as well. That's not just practice, or just talent, that's massive amounts of both and it's literally top 1% of musicians ever. Most of us could practice our entire lives and wont achieve this level. So yes, it's HARD
I mean...what you said is objectively true, but what it reads as is saying this dudes better than Eddy...because he's not ha. Also, Eddy wrote the song, can play it, and sing it. Eddy is a legend and this song is one of HIS, if not THE, hmasterpiece
Yoni....man... I've been following you for a few years, I've been playing guitar for about 25, found your stuff, learned your arrangements of Sultans of Swing, Shine on you Carzy Diamond, Romeo and Juliet, and after many many hours pausing/rewinding your stuff it's progressed my acoustic fingerstyle way beyond what I ever thought I could do...and now you drop this?! I had to comment man, Black pretty much saved my life after a horrific breakup in 2006, this song (and the album) made me realise that all the pain wasn't unique to me, that so many others have gone through the same awful shit and felt the same way.. that connection to others literally kept me on this planet. Hearing your version, dude from your passion and soul in this I can feel how much you connect with the song and that it means something to you too. I'm rambling but just....thanks. You legend. You're known for your great technical playing but this is different, just singing your heart out with massive feeling which is what the song is all about. Awesome awesome stuff.
Jesus man I relate to what you just said. I never thought about breakups the way you explained it... "so many others have gone through the same awful shit and felt the same way"... It helps me a lot to think about this now, thank you.
Perfectly summed up man, there's a handful of songs I play/cover that I relate to in that way, not many, but some just get you. You can just see Yoni in the last minute or so just going to "that place". Whether it's listening to, or playing, music connects, it just does. Lyrics, chord change, key, melody, memories of a moment, good or bad, whatever it is I think we all have that and it's relatable.
This was straight up insane. The rhythm on those triple strums is so hard. Going from the regular strum pattern to the triples and back while also singing is crazy hard yet this guy makes it look easy.
Ok... After the video I just stared the monitor and I went places.. This whole album is like cornerstone for my life. I listened this when I was young, I listened this when I had troublesome times, I listened this TEN album with earpuds and on repeat mode while laying 1,5 months on hospital bed strongly medicated after I got life changing injuries I broke my neck, it has become one with me and my soul. I am 99% sure that I hear this song differently than anyone else.. Sir, you did amazing job and it honoured the original very well.. I thank you.
People like you, here in Brazil we call ourselves FODÁSTICO! FODÁSTICO FODÁSTICO is such an incredible person that it's difficult to find a word in the dictionary to describe him. So are you. I also discovered that I have a lot to learn on the guitar with you. Thank you for sharing this wonderful work. I hug from afar this brother from São Paulo - Brazil.
All this while, since 3 decades, I have been under the impression that this song can't be covered unplugged.... because of the sound effects Pearl Jam used. You can't imagine the kind of happiness, sadness, and shame you bring on to me by your masterpiece perefect cover.
Yoni's cover is amazballs, but seriously what band were you listening to for those 30 years that you never heard black covered acoustically well? I mean Pearl Jam literally did it in '92 and frequently does in their live shows.
@@ClayGravil Hi Clay. Thanks for responding. Your question is genuine and pertinent; and I have to come clean and honest in my response. But I can't cut is short. Here we go - I am from India. Dish TV services began in my city in early 90s. An extreme minority (not even 1%) of population in my state... my country was into western music (rock, country, alternative, grunge, metal... etc). The albums on music shops were not available as they would have been in US or other developed countries. Most of my exposure happened through MTV of those days... and it was pure then. Fortunately I had two friends who had big collection of rock music then. The kind of Bands I listened to were like these - Dream Theatre, Pink Floyed, Deff Leppard, Metallica, Aerosmith, Nirvana, Blind Melon, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Radiohead, Saigon Kick, Extreme, Guns n' Roses, Satriani, Hendrix, Steve Vai.... etc. I had random limited exposure to western classical too like Vivaldi, Beethovan, Mozart... etc. I did watch many unplugged episodes of many bands and was aware that they could cover beautifully their own songs with acoustic guitars. I myself was an amateur guitarist and a rock band member. But before we could bring our skills to a considerable level, the band broke and its members left to live in different cities and states of India for studies and carrier. There was no internet in India; and even if it was... it was not available to general public as it is these days. I am talking about the days when even CDs were uncommon in India. All the music I had was in cassettes. Since past 5 to 7 years, I revisited those years... that music scenario on UA-cam, and eventually came across stupendous covers. I never thought that Meddle by pink floyd can be covered on accoustic. But someone did it. I never thought that 'Hole in my Soul' by Aerosmith could be covered on acoustic. Someone did it, fantastically. Coming across acoustic cover of Black is just another incidence of this kind in my story... with music. A huge huge part of this disbelief that a song (be it any song) can be covered acoustically comes from my own inadequacy as a guitarist. A small part from lack of exposure. I hope this provides the answer to your question and quenches your curiosity.
Wow.... Just.... Wow I have goose bumps, I've heard many attempts at this song, and just as many fails, but this? This is on a par with the original. Standing ovation for the maestro!

Hey, oh Sheets of empty canvas Untouched sheets of clay Were laid spread out before me As her body once did All five horizons Revolved around her soul As the earth to the sun Now the air I tasted and breathed Has taken a turn Oh and all I taught her was everything Oh I know she gave me all that she wore And now my bitter hands Chafe beneath the clouds Of what was everything Oh the pictures have All been washed in black Tattooed everything I take a walk outside I'm surrounded by Some kids at play I can feel their laughter So why do I sear Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin Round my head I'm spinning Oh, I'm spinning How quick the sun can, drop away And now my bitter hands Cradle broken glass Of what was everything All the pictures have All been washed in black Tattooed everything All the love gone bad Turned my world to black Tattooed all I see All that I am All that I'll be, yeah Uh huh, uh huh, oh I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star In somebody else's sky But why Why Why can't it be Oh can't it be mine
I met a guy online while playing PUBG and one day he was telling us about this song in the team. And I kinda had a crush on him (although we barely spoke) so after the game I found this song and my crush on him only got bigger. I haven't spoken or played with him for over a year now. Whenever I listen to this song, it reminds me of him. I am always grateful to people who introduce me to amazing songs.
I’m saying this bc u need to hear it: that cover brought tears to my eyes. U nailed that song and u made me want to learn it. U brought out the lyrics that made me clearly understand what u were saying. Those lyrics cut deep and u nailed it. Congrats brotha. 👏🏼
Bravo!!! It's been said, but I can't let it go unsaid.....What a Kick- a$$ cover!!! So much passion combined with amazing musicianship on so many accounts. WOW!!!🤟🙏
This might sound crazy but Joni’s use of the C/G chord (and a few other things) on an acoustic guitar has forever changed the instrument for me. Brilliant player
sensational! the voice, the guitar, the bass and treble... man, you were the best discovery I've made on UA-cam lately! Congratulations on your gigantic talent!!!

Well, I'm speechless! Now we need a Chris Cornell cover
yes
Can't we just leave it alone?
@@themacocko6311 how are you salty about someone doing a song cover? jesus christ people will get mad about anything these days
Amazing man. Never have i ever seen anyone doing cover of a grunge song to this perfection.
Mind blowing
Hey, oh
Sheets of empty canvas
Untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me
As her body once did
All five horizons
Revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed
Has taken a turn
Oh and all I taught her was everything
Oh I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands
Chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything
Oh the pictures have
All been washed in black
Tattooed everything
I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by
Some kids at play
I can feel their laughter
So why do I sear
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin
Round my head
I'm spinning
Oh, I'm spinning
How quick the sun can, drop away
And now my bitter hands
Cradle broken glass
Of what was everything
All the pictures have
All been washed in black
Tattooed everything
All the love gone bad
Turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see
All that I am
All that I'll be, yeah
Uh huh, uh huh, oh
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky
But why
Why
Why can't it be
Oh can't it be mine
Thank you ♡
I met a guy online while playing PUBG and one day he was telling us about this song in the team. And I kinda had a crush on him (although we barely spoke) so after the game I found this song and my crush on him only got bigger. I haven't spoken or played with him for over a year now. Whenever I listen to this song, it reminds me of him. I am always grateful to people who introduce me to amazing songs.
Yoni you never let me down. Absolutely amazing! ♥️
I’m saying this bc u need to hear it: that cover brought tears to my eyes. U nailed that song and u made me want to learn it. U brought out the lyrics that made me clearly understand what u were saying. Those lyrics cut deep and u nailed it. Congrats brotha. 👏🏼

Best cover for this song on UA-cam. Period.

This is absolutely incredible and I’m speechless over the amount of passion and intensity you put into the song. Unbelievably talented
no matter how many times I listen to this song, it always hurts like the first time
This might sound crazy but Joni’s use of the C/G chord (and a few other things) on an acoustic guitar has forever changed the instrument for me. Brilliant player
One of my favorite Mookie Blaylock songs. You nailed it Yoni!
Lmao
Mookie Blaylock with the Bad Radio singer 😁
That look you get when you know you hit all your changes perfectly. Simply an amazing cover.
