- In 2011, Gillian Anderson wrote a letter of advice to her 16-year-old self.
At Letters Live in London's Royal Albert Hall in October 2021, Gillian joined us to read it.
Brilliant advice for us ladies out there: “Follow your dreams, not your boyfriends.”
-Gillian Anderson
Lol 😂
She said and followed her boyfriend Peter Morgan literally everywhere, leaving an event specially for her to attend as a plus 1 for one of his appearances. As a long time (and now former) fan, that was really disappointing to see.
Love her
She's stunningly brilliant and so.. to the point! Thank You for this!! 👏👏👏
I’ve been waiting for this one! I bet 16 year old Gillian would have been happy to know her future self has a British accent.
Comes of growing up in London……
@@celiabarker Yes, and she talks of holding onto the accent deliberately long into her teenage years and feeling like she’d always return one day. So her young self would probably be happy knowing that she actually did so.
Almost impossible to forget an accent you spoke in as a young child and at a local school. She had a foot either side of the Atlantic in her most formative years.
I don't get it I thought I did but when you realise that she Left a 2 it makes no sence..
I think just does it bc she likes the London accents
There's no such thing as a British accent. Gillian Anderson was raised in Muswell Hill, an affluent area of North London close to Hampstead Heath. It's a well educated English accent which is very much part of the North London elite.
Gillian Anderson just gets more beautiful with the years !
She is gorgeous
Gillian just gets more fabulous as time goes by
there's beauty, and then there's Gillian Anderson, her beauty has only redefined itself over the years since first seeing her on x-files....
I do wonder if as younger us would have listened older us.
Follow your dreams... THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE.
Thank you sooooooo much for sharing this. Please please please share the second letter she rad that night about Eleanor Rossevelt ❤️
When she reads the letter, the British accent fades in and out, though this probably was intentional…
She‘s great.
Gillian is BRILLIANT!!
Beautiful!
Omg I love it
Shame life is full of platitudes… it would have been fun if she’d had said I should have spent more time with boyfriends… or something….
Follow your dreams, not your girlfriends / wives ! lol
Man she was hilarious 😂💕
She’s just purely brilliant 🙂
Is she ?
Very interesting self admission about her past and ongoing struggles with her self worth and identity issues.
Very interesting judgement from someone calling themselves Olorin.
@@ellenmarch3095 👍🏼 that is actually what istari do. However I am not trying to bring her down. I was acknowledging her perseverance.
I think, perhaps, you mean "admission"...
@@nadomaya37 thanks. Yes i do.
Rich and lost. Should've followed love.
Serving at a women refuge.
Being obsessed with herself won’t lead to follow bf’s dreams. Then closing with that phrase.
Everyone have dreams, but I get a hunch this is meant to inspire girls to be lonely wolves. Ultimately missing out in the joy of life, a good partner and kids.
sooooo cool
Oh Gill
i love you Gillian
"Any chance of a duvet?".. 😊

Mums always have the best advice!
I wish.
Not all of them
Mums always think so.
Why is she speaking with an english accent?
She grew up in London as well as Michigan.
Her accent did take a moment to get used to. Maybe I watch too much X Files....Mulder, it's me! 🛸 Gillian is simply magnificent! 👏👏👏👏
She’s bidialectal, having grown up in both the US and the UK from a young age.
@@QUARTERMASTEREMI6 So she goes both ways?
An example of her American accent is FBI Special Agent Dana Scully in The X-Files and her British accent as DSU Stella Gibson in The Fall - I’d just look online and see what I mean! Anyway, I hope this helps! 🙂
