Probably Durkin's best call ever. The roar of the crowd as they reach the top of the stretch gets louder and louder. Spine Tingling!

Love his exasperation at the end. He barely makes it to the final call.

This is the "CALL of all RACE CALLS".... "The Two Derby Winners Hit The Wire Together"! I imitate Tom Durkin and this race call around my wife periodically, she thinks I'm silly!!!! I remember this race like it was yesterday! And my version is all over the place, but it works! I get a laugh out of my wife every time!

I've watched this probably thirty times and I get a chill up my spine every time Durkin screams " Alysheeba on the outside" Greatest race call ever.
Only thing close is Peter Bromleys call of Shergar winning the Epsom Derby.

Good morning. I am 100% agree with you. Both Ferdinand and Alysheba deserved to win 1987 Breeder´s Cup Classic. Tom Durkin was, is and will one of the best call horse racing of the world. But Venezuelan Virgilio Decan "Aly Khan" was, is and will be the best of the world. Greetings from Venezuela.

Always has something left.on the Judge, Bill Shoemaker at 56 waiting, waiting, to not hit the front to early, Chris McCarran, pumping away the last 50.. what a horserace.. ❤️🙏👉🇺🇸

Is there a Durkin interview talking about this call? He knew two Derby winners were in the race obviously, but the way the race unfolded and how he captured it perfectly. PERFECT. It had to happen just that way, and he was ready for it. I’d love to know the exact moment he strung out that phrase in his mind.
The other thing is Shoemaker. Man did he know Ferdinand. Getting him away from the inside was a must, and he didn’t hesitate. He knew he had a bully horse for that. Then allowing him to glide down the home stretch until the last 1/8 when he needed to get it ALL out of him to the wire. Alysheba blew away the field, except the barrel chested chestnut who was playing catch me if you can.
