That bracket is really super quality. You could probably sell them. My only reservation was the drilling and riveting involved, but in all honesty, I don’t think you have many options. If you were to fold up the ends of the tabs at 90 degrees (to snap in), for example, you wouldn’t be able to get the bracket out. I think the placement of the unit is excellent
Thanks Paul👍
I can’t thank you enough for this idea. I finalised my install today to hide all the wiring. It’s the most applicable update for such a wonderful classic car.
I routed the two cables behind the air vent, down the back of the glove box and to a USB for power and the rear camera that I fitted onto the boot lid.
The major win is the audio streemed from my iPhone 15 to the Alpine head set and controlled from the Carpruide Carplay, is high definition audio.
So I have the hi definition V8 Jag Burble, then when I want to have my music on, it's Hi Definition Audiofile quality.
As it operates via ‘Apple Car Play’ & my iPhone 15 is Bluetooth to my updated Alpine headset & 9 new speaker set & new subwoofer, all I have to do is have my phone in my pocket & everything connects totally automatically each time I get in the car. No fluffing about like I have to do on the JagDroid in my X356 XJR.
Now in my XK8 its total simplicity for Waze, Amazon Music, Mapping, Email, Whatsapp, SatNav & much, much more.
Now there’s absolutely no reason to have my phone ‘suckered to the windscreen or to the air vent.
Thanks John.
Well done, as always, the work of an engineer. It's good that I had a look at how the panel is removed. I hope that I don't have too many problems with my project. I will also do it in such a way that it can be removed later. I have to cut up a used middle panel. The carpuride should go in there. But that takes time. All parts are not still there.I congratulate you on this brilliant work and thank you for showing the video. Greetings, Udo.
A nice neat install John
Thanks Steve👍
Nicely done I’m going to do the exact setup
Well done! If I were a bit more handy and less lazy, I might have tried your method. Still may.
Hi John, I have a 1998 XK convertible (56 miles) and really appreciate your precious tips, but I think that you are wrong this time. Your device completely destroys the atmosphere of the classic wooden interior. I also wanted to upgrade connectivity of my car, and found a, in my view, much better solution, which is a Pioneer device which fits in the standard DIN radio slot and which unfolds a screen that is about as big as yours, incl. SatNav, camera connection, Bluetooth and all of the other bells and whistles. I did it about 6 years ago, cost me about EUR 1500 inkl. professional Installation, and serves me really well. The device looks a bit more chunky than the curved original (also because it is shiny black and not grey) , but I think it's much better than your solution from an optical point of view. And, last but not least, I intend to register the vehicle as an oldtimer in 2028, and I am sure the strict Austrian authorities would not fancy this prominent screen. Some of my friends got refusals for much lesser reasons.
56k miles :g)
PS However, I forgot to mention one downside: when the screen is unfolded, it covers the switches, of the center console, so if you want to change temperature aso, you have to unfold it for a moment, but I can live with that.
Another great solution Alexander. Thanks for sharing. I have looked at the fold-out screen ones too. but had worried about obscuring controls and would the screen collide with the shifter in Park. And like yourself I found it hard to obtain one that looked even slightly standard when closed as these do tend to be a bit more 'blingy' if that is a word?😁
I'm also quite pleased that I can unhook the screen from its bracket and pop it in the glove box, leaving the car looking standard at a quick glance.
It is a very personal thing though and no one solution will suit everyone
Hi John, thanks for that, good that you can remove it with a click if necessary. And yes, you are right: when the gear shifter is on P the unfolding mirror will definitely collide with it once you start the car. So you have to program it on "Autoscreen off", than you anfold by pushing the respective key when the gear shifter is on D. And vice verca. Always great information about these lovely cars on your channel, very much appreciated. Just bought 5 refurbished keyfobs in UK. Cost a fortune, but without them you are lost.
unfolding screen, of course...
Look well
Cheers Tony👍
I love your content but this time I think that a wrong way to go. It simply does not look appropriate. XK8 is wood and leather all over for a reason and a screen like that one looks odd.
Aesthetically it does not match with the rest of the car. Why would anyone integrate modern screen into classy 1990` interior? Does not make stylistic sense.
Dave, you have done it again!! Well done mate. As I love a good gadget I will follow your design, and think the unit looks good in your car. As in all things putting in a unit like this is a personal choice. Will send photos once project complete.
Best wishes from Sydney.
Mate appreciate the work but for me it looks out of place
Re my comment below: the Pioneer device I bought in June 2017 is the NAVEGATE78BT 1 DIN. Original price was EUR 779 plus about EUR 350 for installation.
Morning John:
I just received my carpuride w903 and I have a question for you and your viewers. Is it best to use the original bluetooth from 2006 or purchase a bluetooth wireless receiver
Thanks John and look orward to the new video.
Craig
If your car has onboard Blue tooth conectivity already then I would use that.
@@ToTheGarage Thanks John
Hi John,
Great series, thank you. My Carpuride W903 arrived today! Bracket manufacturing this week! Couple of questions, do you forsee any problems with warm air from the vent during the winter causing any problems with the unit, and did you get round to measuring the angles for bending the bracket?
Hi Alan. I think there is a big enough gap behind the unit for the hot air not to be an issue. I didnt check the angles despite saying i would, but i will announce a live feed video in the next day or two and will make a note to measure it and let everyone know then as well as adding the angles to the description below the video👍
@@ToTheGarage Thanks John
This makes classics much more user friendly. I mounted my rear view camera to my number plate frame so as not to drill into the Jag. I did drill a hole inside the license plate light housing to run the wire. Very clean install. And the camera stays clean.
Great tips @tomfurie2996 I may follow your lead with the wiring routing🤔
@@ToTheGarage I should think you could also run the wires completely behind the dash since you already drilled into the vent. Once you have it all set up you will wonder how you lived without it. The backup camera, even an inferior one, is so helpful every day.
Hi,,I have baught the camera ,, I live in Sweden,, See you,,, I will make the bracket. Thank´s KS
Impressive, very neat - well done 👍
