  • Ken Tanaka of Wish4Fish is back on the water! This time fly fishing in the North East region of Iceland with Fish Partner (www.fishpartner.com) to some fantastic dry fly water of Laxá í Aðaldal or otherwise known as the Big Laxa! One of the best dry fly streams I have ever fished.
The Big Laxa is an incredible dry fly fishery! Known for BIG Brown Trout as well as Atlantic Salmon run in the fall. We didn't hook any of the big Browns this time but we did hook plenty of very nice size Browns that put up one hell of a fight!
I first was using my Douglas Sky 9' 5wt with my Ross Evolution R although quickly changed over to my new set up. I broke out my new favorite dry fly rod the Douglas Upstream PLUS 9' 4wt paired it up with my Ross Colorado LT. This bad boy casts super tight loops and laser pin point accuracy.
PS- Please don't tell me that is a cow. I know...

Another great video! I like the intermission in the lodge! It's nice to see how your adventure starts and unfolds with these scenes, it's kinda like you are there for the ride! Keep those and of course fishing content coming!

"A nets a net." Yes in the sense that you can scoop a trout (or most any fish) up in it. But then a rod is a rod because most any fly rod will catch a fish if it is the right line for the fish and handled correctly. I travel with a $30 Bass Pro net but fish the Delaware with a $120 Brodin net.

How do you like that Frabill net? I just ordered one from Amazon for steelhead. Same size.

OK, Ken...let's have it. Wanted to go there with my son this summer, but opted for Colorado instead because it seemed as though the fishing in Iceland was highly regulated and restricted. I've been reconsidering Iceland as next summer's trip, but I'm still a bit unsure due to what I've read regarding fishing permits...which streams and rivers and you can fish...sterilization of all equipment...etc. Is that all true, and is it THAT bad? The sites I've pulled up all seem to suggest that there's only a handful of places open to fishing despite the entire country being laced and dotted with countless streams, brooks, rivers, lakes, and ponds. I also get the impression that fishing needs to be supervised by a guide or guide service.

I'm headed to Iceland in September any recommendations on what guide to hook up with up there?
