I hope someone makes an original GameBoy emulator for it. There will need to be button combinations for Start and Select but it could still be really cool. Maybe the crank could be used to rewind gameplay? That would really be cool.
What’s more impressive is now there is! And more than one to choose from! PotatoBoy, PlayGB, etc. I believe the start and select are handled by the crank. It’s a fun way to enjoy Gameboy games.
I want to start making games for Playdate even without console (waiting for the start of sales). Try to make games*, so I hope SDK will be published soon. ♥
god i can't wait for the SDK and pulp to be out, even if it's hard for argentinians to afford it, i really wanna make at least one game for this console
Idea: why don't you make it so when you plug it into you're pc, you can also have the option to open a game editor, where you could make a simple editor, so you can make you're games.
A small thing maybe, but I would love these consoles to come in different colours, not just yellow. One added note: I really hope that the crank can withstand loads of play. And that there is no issue with it snapping, or breaking off?
0:22 a music app, eh? Is anyone making a "beat making" app for it yet? what are the sound voice specs of this (edit: I saw the website says it's 44.1! but how many simultaneous samples?)
I think Playdate is the anti-Ouya! Ouya's main problem was that it was poorly designed, had nothing unique about it, was cheaply made and also had no original games. Playdate on the other hand is solving all of those problems - high quality design and manefacturing, the crank (which creates more opportunities for unique games to be made on the system), and dozens of high quality exclusives made by pretty storied indie developers. They're also releasing their own webapp to allow newer users to immedaitely start prototyping and creating their own game, which anyone can release, making it possible for a whole slew of additional exclusives to find their way onto the console. Instead of trying to compete with the wider (and more expensive) general television console market, Playdate is hyperfocusing on the more niche indie microgame community, and I think that level of focus is going to definitely pay off.
@@archerboy7922 sigh, your phone is not the same thing. It’s like your comparing a fridge to a car. It doesn’t make any sense. This is a retro handheld with some new games. Not the state of the art portable.

Instant purchase. Can’t wait for this delightful device ^_^
Looks even more compelling now

Someone HAS to get DOOM working on this thing
YESSIR
They did.
Just can’t wait for it. I have so many ideas and it looks like so much fun!
Still waiting for. 33 years/ germany. Have a Switch, PS5, Series X. Wants Playdate!
Cant' wait :) I'm happy corona don't kill your game system :)
Can't wait for the SDK! Or any sort of update.
Who's here after the announcement of Playdate Pulp?!?!
Terrific idea to let anyone make games with it. It could be very well what makes it very successful.
I just hope some Demoscene Groups saw this. 👀
Sony and nintendo should do that to, great job
The future of gaming :)
Thanks to the positions of the buttons, you can make all game boy games on playdate
There are Game Boy Emulators on Playdate. One of them requires you to crank forward for start and backward for select.
Would love to see ports of Minit and Gato Roboto

baitcaster reel games, and it's right hand reel
When is it coming?
We’ve been waiting ages!
By the end of the year
Hi
But when?
The developers has said: "early 2021"
Preorders start in early July 2021
A small thing maybe, but I would love these consoles to come in different colours, not just yellow.

Are the dev tools also available for Linux? Because I'd develop on the Steam Deck then.
yes
@@colinkiama That's a little late but still appreciated haha.
So every Playdate system is a dev kit similar to what Ouya once did? Why do I had the feeling it'll end up like the Ouya?

The game @20 seconds looks as if it uses motion controls or some form of a gyro unless I’m mistaken as I thought this wouldn’t come with one
yep! they showcased that game somewhere, the hardware does have a gryo.
Cant find play date simulator for NOVA..
It's not out yet.

@@johnescarioalamer OK!
I'm sorry what does the crank do??
It's an extra form of input. You can control certain elements in a game by rotating the crank.
0:21 which game is that?
Poly’s Roly Rumble by RNG party games.
when can i buy it in Italy
??
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
So can someone make a fishing game please and thank you 😊
Do you write them in C language?
Either Lua or C.
This is seriously one of the coolest things I've seen in quite a while! Definitely buying one (and developing for it) once it comes out.

You only want mac users to make games for Playdate?
They have windows and linux versions of their SDKs
Can someone tell me what's so amazing about it? It's literally a big step backwards from portable gaming
That’s the point. It’s like a retro gameboy with Wi-Fi
Yeah no, I'll stick with the switch
Games with. Color?????
Nope, its 1bit display
I truly pray, hope and fast all upcoming consoles will all be a success.
God bless, Revelation 21:4
$179? DOA.
$80 price tag is enough for it i don't think anyone will buy if it costs more than that i mean even if you have good games $150 ain't worth it.
I really like classic games, but this is a piece of crap! Sorry but this is the truth
Ikr, why are people so invested in this junk? There's better portable stuff than this, even my phone is better than this crap 😂
