Derrick White is the only player in that roster who had heart when it mattered. Only one who fought hard and battled when everyone in his team already gave up.
That's called Spurs basketball, it's engrained to push and play smart. Seriously that system builds some of the smartest basketball ball IQ players in the league. Everyone seems to know how to play well despite their physical limitations. White is a beast defensively though, hate we traded him but I was happy for him at the same time. I knew y'all were getting a dog, and to think some Celtics fans were tripping about that trade. His contract is a steal tbh

Marcus Smart is a Dpoy, Horford is still a better defender than Draymond Green and he has a respectable offensive bag. Stood his ground against Bam, Embiid one of the best bigs in their conference.
They ain’t a top 10 at their position but they ain’t no scrubs.

Another reason why having played the game doesn’t mean you really understand it that well. This is one of the deepest teams in the league, Marcus Smart is a DPOY winner, Derrick White is a big game player that can go for over 20 on his own with comfort and Horford is one of the only starter caliber big man that can space the floor like that. Robert Williams when healthy is an elite rim protector. Brogdon off the bench is one of the best 6th man out there. He is a very good 3 point shooter and Grant Williams gives great effort on defense and he is streaky with his 3 point shooting. And they have 2 all-nba players. This is as good as an eight player rotation as you can get in the league. Great defensive versatility, a lot of shooting and multiple players that can also create their own shots. This core has made the Conference Finals 4 of the last 6 years. Most in the NBA in that time frame. They have made the playoffs all 6 years. Clearly there is something there that works. They’ve finished top 2 in the East the last 2 years. They have not finished top 4 in the East one year out of the 6 years of this core. You’re not going to have 5 superstars on the court together. Gilbert’s expectations are your starting 5 having Dame, Booker, Tatum, AD, Bam or something. The formula the last decade apart from that outrageous Warriors roster with KD has been 2 max slot players and guys around them that complement the weaker sides of the games of these max slot guys. This year Murray and Jokic with their depth have shown out. Last year you had Steph and Klay even though Klay wasn’t that good but the depth around them worked great. The year before, you had Giannis and Middleton but they didn’t really work before that. They go out and build around those 2, get Jrue to help them. 2020, Lakers built around AD and Bron. 2019 you had Lowry and Kawhi, Siakam, VanVleet and others played around those 2 building blocks. It’s just that the team has to be more consistent. Especially Tatum and Brown.

Smart was the 2022 defensive player of the year. Horford is 37 but he’s a five time all star and brings huge veteran experience to a team with two young primary stars. White was all-NBA 2nd defensive team. Give these guys even just a bit of credit.

Grant regressed and never had a big game like he did last season in game 7 vs the Bucks. Pritchard didn't get much pt because Brogdon is out best option for 6th man. Brogdon wasn't really consistent during the playoffs and his injury didn't help at all when he returned in game 7 vs the Heat and played downright terrible.

This is wild. Smart and white are a phenomenal defensive backcourt. Great hustle and grit from those 2 every single game. You can't get rid of White or Smart, but Horford definitely needs a new friendlier contract, and be moved to the bench permanently. Rob Will is fine as well. He just really needs to stay healthy for a whole year
That's just facts. White and Smart are great defenders. And for the most part, defense has been huge for this Boston team. My only problem is, they lack a real playmaker. I'd love to have Smart and Derrick White on my tema for sure, but they need a PG that'll set up plays for them. Too many times, it's Tatum and Brown iso. But honeslty, they have a great team.

I swear Gilbert be making up these false narratives. Teams would love to have role players like Smart White and Horford because they do other things outside of scoring the basketball. Marcus Smart is one of the few guards in the league that can switch on to almost any other player on the court defensively. White gives you a little bit of everything. And Horford is one of the most versatile defensive bigs even though he is past his prime. The role players were not the problem. It was on the two stars especially Jaylen Brown who never saw a shot he didnt like. Miami exposed alot of holes in Browns game in terms of ball-handling, playmaking and overall basketball IQ

Those numbers are either comparable or better to the numbers he had coming off the bench so to continuously say he was better coming off the bench as I’ve seen you say multiple times in this comment section is false and blind hate.

His take is still stupid because a lot of the players have specific roles. For the most part, they played their roles perfectly. They just didn't bring it and that is a knock on the whole team. Gilbert arenas is just talking out of his ass here
