had one when i was 21 and put a AEM v2 induction kit on it, smiled everytime it hit vtec. still the best car ive owned
What was insurance like with that car at that age?
I had one too, but with far more mods, not a bad car but the lack of torque even with a kpro and extras and traction issues weren’t great let alone the disconnected steering feeling. It’s like have a turbo without the power and torque of a turbo when it does kick in. By all means it’s a good firs hot hatch but when you can up your game to new trend of turbo 4wd go for it. My ep3 has nothing on my 500bhp golf r with Porsche brakes lol
@@jonnyplusone4894 A shorter final drive and a limited slip diff sorts that out straight away. The difference in acceleration, grip and cornering is night and day. Also a fast road setup sharpens turn in. Yes modern turbo cars are faster and easier to drive quickly but that's not what a Type R is about. Get an EP3 with the above changes on short technical corners and it'll make your heart race

The gearshift coming out the dash falling exactly to hand is one of the best bits of these

Got a prefacelift ep3 myself 183k miles still going like a absolute trooper 💪💪 takes abuse on the daily!
I remember buying me ep3 in 2009. I kept it for 7 years! Then got an FN2. Still got the FN so for the last 12 years I’ve know nothing but vtec! I keep contemplating changing but then I see videos like this and change my mind 😂

Had a ep3 for a few months a couple years ago, unfortunately couldn’t afford the horrendous fuel economy at the time, would absolutely love another now though!
Adds are annoying in videos but really don’t mind them when you’ve gone out of your way to put the earnings from them back to your viewers. Well done mate 👍

My mate bought one of these brand new back in 2002 , he wasn’t into cars , he just liked the look of it .
It was an absolute travesty , not once in the whole time he owned it did he take it into the v- tech zone .

Had my cosmic grey ep3 for 4 years. Never has any issues with it other than maintenance items. Best car ive owned and still miss it to this day. Brought a tear to my eye when i sold it. Has to replace it with another honda, went to a dc5 which i enjoy but still miss the ep3.
These cars are just the most fun ever, my first car was a little ep2 I know its not the same but I loved it 🤣
Totally agree a great sound and a fantastic bit of engineering to design the VTEC engine.
The skunk2 gearknob is a great little mod. Got one on my DC5 and it makes the gear change so much nicer.
Taking me back 2005 Calv! The first time heard my K&N filter blew my mind!
Love these cars, i had a 54 plate in nighthawk black it also had the induction kit and that sound is the best sound a petrol head will hear from a 4 pot

I loved my ep3 was on a k100 ecu with a few nice added extras to increase flow and handled like it was on rails 240hp from a little 2.0 n/a engine was incredible. Do miss it from time to time was a blast to rag on B roads
I had a red anniversary one few years ago but went back to my 106 gti, felt the civic would only move good in vtec but the 106 gives constant guts all the way thru every gear wasnt any match top end the civic would start gapping but In the lanes healthy tuned 106 all the way
@@billyyr9469 must say my ep3 laughed at saxo vts’s and 16v swapped 106’s in a straight line and even on B roads, you can’t compare the 2 the civic is a better built better drivers car in every aspect my friend
@@jackwatson5400 if you ever get another ep3 let's link up, my Sundance will show you up the b roads no trouble man you can cain the corners hard on the down cog skip around them on 3 wheels 🤣 the civic just understeers hard and always has to be over 5800rpm to go anywhere lol, but each to there own I guess. The civ is Still a good car and thrill to drive dont get me wrong but I feel comfortable pinning the 106 harder

@@billyyr9469 5800rpm? Not sure about other people but got my vtec lowered to kick in at 4k rpm with a kpro, looking to upgrade cams+ few other internals hopefully hit about 280-290bhp with the other mods, the ep3 when done right is madness. Think I'll be driving mine until the day it dies!
The later EP3 (last facelift 55-06) also had the Premier Edition variant which had more spec including Recaro Seats, tinted windows, Momo wheel).

I loved these when they came out. I had a civic eg with the B16A2 at the time and the ep3 was my goal.
Kids happened and I had to get sensible so chances are I’ll be paying silly money for one once they leave home 🤔
You should still get an EP3 at least once. I moved from an EK4 to an EP3. Absolutely amazing upgrade in every way

Civics are such cool cars, especially the vti and type versions. I have a mk8 2.2 ctdi diesel and they are also cool, run forever and hugely economical.

My mate had an ep3 with skunk everything was quick for an n/a about 240bhp was wicked until lift off oversteer happend and never caught it back 😂

Pains me to watch this wish I never sold mine looked exactly like this one cosmic grey face lift black oem wheels big angled backbox, paid 5k for it from Scotland with 56k miles running 246bhp dyno proven , nice engine spec, kept it 2 years then had to sell it for a family car! Sold it for 5k with 72k miles on! God knows how much its worth now but he did say I've got first refusal lol best car I've ever had better than the mk2 focus st running 330bhp dream science, wish I kept it

I've got an old 55 plate EP3 anniversary edition with 27k miles on the clock. It's been sat in my garage for 6/7 years nothing done to it. What advice would you give to get it back to running condition. It's standard from factory, I just haven't used it in at least 6 years maybe more. Not even been turned on :(
Try a NA mapped one, they move completely different! Make the car feel like it goes from 150bhp to official 250bhp

The Corolla 1.8 T-sport was a rival for the EP3 back in the day. Similar performance and very capable but less fun to drive ultimately. Very good car though and probably a bit underated.

How does a 1.8 toyota corolla t sport drive to a ep3 and fn2 what would you choose out the 3 if could only have 1 and why
The Corolla felt dull and seating position too high. Felt like a sporty engine in a normal hatch. Also get ratios were too long which took away the raucous feel that a Honda Type R has. I’m a little biased as I’m a Honda fan but try both. There is a big difference. The EP3 feels raw and like a race car for the road. The FN2 has a great engine but feels heavy and more like the Corolla in driving feel.

Had my ep3 premier edition since 2010 and sold it to my dad to get a pug 207 GTi within a year I was begging my dad to sell me the ep3 back still got it today 😂
