I Decided to Try Carving a SOAPSTONE Bust

- I have wanted to try carving soapstone since I saw a little polar bear figurine at a gift shop when I was 11. I thought "A stone soft enough to carve?" and honestly, I wasn't let down. I thoroughly enjoyed this process.
I'm not sure if using a rotary tool is considered cheating, but it was so much fun! Tip: If you decide to use a rotary tool to carve soapstone, be prepared for a big dusty mess. I had to wear protective eyewear and a mask. cough cough
Beautiful and a great tutorial
Thank you
Patricia
Glad it was helpful! ♥️
nice carving. i dont miss living in northern minnesota, but i do miss building snow forts! thank you
Thankyou!
very nice, Thank you for the knowledge, you have great talent
There is a thin wand you can attach to the Dremel and it is easier to use for fine work.
Great video!
Working it wet helps contain the dust, just check to make sure your rotary tool can handle it.
Ceramic tile is cut wet
Aw your videos are so cute and genuine
Thanks so much!
Good job.
Love this and you!!
is there any footage or chance you could post the sanding/ polishing process you used on this piece
I wish I could but I lost all of that footage sadly. As far as sanding, it was pretty much the same process I used all throughout. I just kept using whatever sanding bit was best for the shape I was trying to carve. And the oiling was just done by dipping a Q-tip into some mineral oil and rubbing it on. I had to do the oiling a couple of times because it kept absorbing, but that part was very simple. I wish you the best!
Can you suggest for me a bit kit,
manufacturer and type please?
For soapstone, and possibly teak?
Thank you,
S.
Sorry I’m just seeing this comment now! So the kit I used was a kit from Dremel and another generic one from Amazon I believe. I kind of just use whatever I can get. Sorry, I don’t have many recommendations. Dremel is pretty good though.
Amazing😮
WHAT OIL DID YOU USES
Just plain old mineral oil. But the stone absorbs it, so it took a few applications. Just let it dry then add more.
Meghine, neyar shapping plashe
Just wanted give you a small, that metal tool with the little teeth is also known as a Rasp File. Hope this helps in the future. Noce job though for real!
